  • Pol Roger Brut Réserve Nv
POL ROGER BRUT RÉSERVE NV Champagne Pol Roger was founded in 1849 and now owns 87 hectares of vineyards on prime sites in the Vallée d‘Epernay and the Côte des Blancs. Its cellars run for 7km and are on three levels, the deepest known as the ‘cave de prise de mousse‘ at 33m below ground. As the name suggests, this is where the wine undergoes secondary fermentation in bottle. The fact that this deep cellar is at 9°C or less, rather than a normal cellar temperature of 11-12°C, prolongs the fermentation and is a contributing factor to the quality and particular style of the wines and their famously fine bubbles. Pol Roger Brut Réserve is blended from 30 still base wines from different vineyards, different vintages and the three main grape varieties which dominate the champagne region: Pinot Noir contributes body, depth of character and life-extending tannins and comes from the villages of the Montagne de Reims – Verzy, Verzenay, Mailly, Ambonnay, Mardeuil and Louvois; Chardonnay provides the lightness, elegance and finesse and is drawn from Epernay itself and the villages of the Côte des Blancs – Cuis, Oiry, Oger, Vertus, Moussy and Chouilly; Pinot Meunier supplies youthful freshness, vigour and plump character with the grapes coming from the Vallée d’Epernay – Vincelles, Venteuil, Troissy, Damery, Vandières, Brugny, Chavot, Monthelon and Pierry. The Brut Réserve is made from both the cuvée (the free-run juice and the first, light pressing) and if necessary, the taille (second pressing) which provides a higher proportion of essential tannins and structure.

  • Vega-Sicilia-DI-2018-Np.Pdf
www.vntgimports.com Vega Sicilia needs no introduction and is considered, by most, to be one of the top ten wineries in the world. They cater to a very select clientele in 85 countries, and even then only exports 40 percent of its limited production of 130,000 bottles a year. The other 60 percent is sold in Spain. The jewel in the winery’s crown, Vega Sicilia Unico, takes 10 years to produce. The Valbuena is not a second wine. Rather, it is a different expression that has aged for less time, and will drink sooner, than Unico. It is a wine that comes from the younger vines and, it is mostly made with the varieties of Tempranillo and Merlot, rather than Cabernet Sauvignon. Bodegas Alión was formed in 1986 as a winery which would be run independently to its big brother, the great Vega Sicilia. This 85-hectare wine estate was founded by the Álvarez family to provide a modern expression of Ribera del Duero wine. 35 hectares of the estate is located around the winery, with a further 50 hectares dedicated to Alión within the historic Vega Sicilia vineyards. Unlike Vega Sicilia, where we find a merging of the traditional and modern winemaking techniques, Alión is made using state-of-the-art equipment. Forward and uncompromising, these are wines with impressive frames and show an alternative side of Tinto Fino. Pintia realizes the desire of the Álvarez family to make the best Toro wine, a designation that gives wines body, exoticism, an explosion of aromas, and a modern personality and character.

TASTING NOTES 2013 DESCRIPTION Bodegas Benjamín de Rothschild & Vega Sicilia is a result of the admiration that two great names in the world of wine feel for the exceptional wine region of Rioja. Incomparable in its calcareous-clay soils, incomparable in its unique mixed climate of Atlantic, continental and Mediterranean currents, incomparable in the personality of its grapes and Tempranillo wines and incomparable in its tenacity and passion of its people. Bodegas Benjamín de Rothschild & Vega Sicilia is under the Qualified Appellation of Origen Rioja (DOCa). Its wines are a result of a meticulous selection within 130 high quality “pagos” (vineyard), acquired in the last 13 years and located on the slopes of the Cantabria Mountain Range. 90 hectares are spread along high terraces in the Municipality of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Labastida, Ábalos and El Villar. Macán Clásico represents freshness, kindness, gentleness. It is made from 100% Tempranillo grapes with selection on the field and at the winery. Part of its malolactic fermentation was performed in barrels. Its ageing process reaches 12 months in extra-fine French oak barrels, new and one use, before obtaining roundness in bottle for over 18 months. Macán Clásico is the pure expression of Rioja Tempranillo grapes with a modern production reinforcing its elegance and a careful ageing to enhance its fineness. 2013 was a complex year where extensive selection was carried out. • Ribera Del Duero
VINEYARDS OF THE WORLD Ribera del Duero ASTILLA Y LEÓN (usually known as Castile in English) is the largest autonomous region in Spain, C occupying one fifth of the total area—but it is rel- atively sparsely populated. With its rolling terrain and the occasional plateau, mostly used for production of grain crops and sheep grazing, Castile has many similarities with the Australian landscape. There are five Denominación de Origen (DO) wine regions in Castile, namely Ribera del Duero, Rueda, Bierzo, Toro and Cigalas. Ribera del Duero is located in the upper valley of the River Duero which is perhaps better known by its Portugese name, the Douro. The name Ribera del Duero literally means the banks of the river Duero. The region was only awarded DO status in 1982 even though the famous estate of Vega Sicilia (located near Valbuena de Duero at the western end of the region) has been known for its high qual- ity wines since the mid 19th century. Significant expansion in both vineyard area and the number of wine estates has occurred since the late 1980s, and today this DO is challeng- ing the dominance of Rioja in the Spanish red wine market. At present there are 15,000 ha of vineyards but the average PETER DRY vineyard size is less than 1 ha. In the past, most of the fruit ended up in cooperatives for the production of cheap rosé. Now there are more than 50 wine estates with an emphasis on Vineyards of the World quality red wine production. The oldest vineyards are found in the west of the region near Peñafiel but much of the new development is in the east near Aranda de Duero.

  • PFV Prize- Press Release
PRESS RELEASE 01-25-21 Primum Familiae Vini Leading Wine Families Five extraordinary family companies nominated for €100,000 PFV Prize of 2021 Optimism at a time of crisis The Primum Familiae Vini, composed of twelve historic European wine producers, have nominated five companies from a diverse range of countries to a shortlist for the €100,000 ‘Family is Sustainability’ Prize. Matthieu Perrin, PFV President, said: ‘We in the PFV believe that family companies are the bedrock of regional and national economies and that the best must have a profound commitment to sustainable development. Great family companies, such as these five in our shortlist, personify social and environmental responsibility as well as supreme product quality. These enduring values are particularly relevant in these turbulent times and during this devastating pandemic.’ Paul Symington, Chairman PFV said: ‘The twelve families in the PFV have worked for generations to achieve excellence in our wines and for the continued independence of our vineyards despite challenges that often looked insurmountable. We created this prize to champion other family companies and to express our confidence in the resilience of family enterprises through good times and bad.’ In February, the twelve PFV families will meet again to select the winner of the €100,000 PFV Prize from amongst these five companies. The final decision will be announced in March 2021. 1 PRESS RELEASE 01-25-21 The PFV Shortlist 2021 France - Makhila Ainciart Bergara: a six-generation family business and producer of exquisite handmade walking sticks in the Basque region of southwest France since 1780.
