It is possible to participate in the auction through attending it in person as well as through telephone. 2. In order to participate in the auction it is necessary to have an invitation or buy a ticket (ticket price with the catalogue is GEL 50); this will allow you to register for the auction with the secretary and receive a card with your personal number required for participation. This card is the only document for participating in the auction. 3. Participation - those over 18 or a legal entity whose representatives have to submit a letter of guarantee on the liability of purchasing a lot (painting). 4. You can get acquainted with the auction material through catalogue, internet and pre-auction exhibition. 5. Prices of lots (paintings) are given in conventional currency (USD). Payment will be made in national currency, at the exchange rate recorded on the day of the auction by the National Bank of Georgia. Payment can be made in cash as well as through bank transfer. 6. A participant of the auction who has purchased one or several lots (paintings) and cannot pay full amount by the end of the auction, can pay 30% of the total amount as an advance payment and pay the remaining amount within three working days. If total amount of the price is not paid during this period the amount paid in advance will not be returned to the buyer and the lot(s) painting(s) will remain at the auction’s disposal. 7. Auctioneer leads the sales and secretary regulates it. They are the representatives of organizers throughout the auction. All disputes and disagreements are settled by the secretary - according to auction regulations. His/her decision will be deemed final. 8. The organizer can remove any lot before the auction without specifying a reason for it. During the sales this right is enjoyed by the secretary.Is in chargeof the above process. 9. Auctioneer declares the lot number, name of the painting and initial price. 10. The rise of numbered card means unconditional consent of a participant to buy a lot for the price announced. Any further rise of card means purchasing the lot (painting) for increased price at the established rate. 11. The rate of increase is announced by the auctioneer for each lot (painting) before sales. 12. A participant can name his/her own price during the sales. In this case the increase rate will be added to the nominated price. 13.     Mzia Chikhradze Modernism and Identity The paradigm of modernism places it in a cosmopolitan area. The desire to become integrated into a unified artistic space generates not only common, similar artistic trends in modernist art, but also severely limits the borders between the specific national derivatives within it. Coupled with the fact that “national” became a dangerous and unpopular topic after World War I, the modernism that developed in Central Europe developed as an anti-national phenomenon. Georgia enjoyed a short period of independence from 1918 to 1921. Not only Georgian modernism, but also the distinctive model of the Tbilisi avant-garde flourished during this time. It was based on a creative collaboration between different nationalities, their multinational and intercultural art. The specificity of the Tbilisi avant-garde was characterized by integrating different national characteristics into a unified artistic system. Despite the artists’ differing individual and national backgrounds, a unified artistic language was formed and this unique language determined the emerging art’s diversity and vivid imagery. The art and culture that developed in the bosom of independent Georgia generally carried a trace of Georgian national characteristics. The question arises: How organic and relevant is distinctiveness by national features in the context of modernism, which, as already mentioned, promotes cosmopolitanism. The priority of nationality should be considered as a hindering factor in terms of modernist values. However, the specifics of Georgian modernism and the Tbilisi avant-garde differed from the European ones. Namely, as Italian futurism stated and Tommaso Marinetti, its founding father, wrote in his Manifesto of Futurism: “We want to destroy museums and libraries, fight against morality, feminism, and all opportunist and utilitarian cowardice ..

Secondo la RKD Jacob de Backer sarebbe nato ad Anversa nel 1540/45 circa e sarebbe morto nella stessa città fra il 1591 e il 1600. De Backer da ragazzo è stato abbandonato dal padre. Carel van Mander afferma che Jacob de Backer fu allievo di Antonio van Palermo ed Hendrik van Steenwijk il Vecchio. Sebbene sia considerato un pittore manierista e siano visibili influssi di Giorgio Vasari, non sembra sia mai stato in Italia. Il ciclo dei Sette vizi capitali fu acquistato da Cosimo Masi, segretario del cardinale Alessandro Farnese il Giovane nel 1594 ed è conservato nel Museo di Capodimonte a Napoli. A hundred years ago, in 1918, the Democratic Republic of Georgia declared its independence from the Russian Empire. A brief period of freedom, which lasted until the invasion by the Soviet Red Army in 1921, followed. In those years, Tbilisi became the “Paris of the East” as international artists, some having fled Russia, encountered the local Avant-garde which stood in frequent exchange with Europe. The open, experimental, interdisciplinary art which arose seems instructive for our polarized times. Painting, sculpture, drawing, literature, folk art, ethnography, research, typography, and bookmaking all inspired and challenged each other. This not only led to Georgian Dadaism, Irakli Gamrekeli's groundbreaking stage settings, Niko Pirosmani's paintings, David Kakabadze's art and research, and the Georgian version of Zaum by Ilya Zdanevič, as well as his interdisciplinary endeavor 41° (41 degrees; a university, a group of artist, a magazine, and a publishing house all in one), but it furthermore yielded magnificent films, typographic experiments, radical theatre performances, painted taverns, and a general attitude towards life that continues to inspire. The exhibition, Georgian Modernism: The Fantastic Tavern, takes the shape of a book, displaying remarkable works that are largely unknown.
