The three protagonists, including two Russian skaters Victor Nikiforov, and Yuri Purisetsuki (Юрий Плисецкий), and one Japanese skater Yuri Katsuki (勝生勇利), engage in extensive cross-cultural discourses. This paper aims to explore the ways in which Russian cultures, life style, and people are ‘glocalised’ in the anime, not only for the Japanese audience but also for fans around the world. It is followed by a brief study of Russian fans’ response to YOI’s display of Russian memes and Taiwanese YOI fan books relating to Russia and Russians in YOI. My reading of the above materials suggests that the imagined Russian identity in both the official anime production and the fan works can be regarded as an intriguing case of cross-cultural communication and cultural hybridisation. Opera on Ice worked its magic again this year, and on Saturday night the Verona Arena was a full house. • ISU Lifetime Achievement Award Recipients Revealed
ISU Lifetime Achievement Award recipients revealed Living legends Jayne Torvill/Christopher Dean (GBR), Tamara Moskvina (RUS) and Alexei Mishin (RUS) received the ISU Lifetime Achievement Award. Presented by Olympic Ice Dance Champion Charlie White and Olympic Ice Dance silver medalist Tanith White, the digital show on Saturday, July 10, united Figure Skating of the present, past and future. British Ice Dancers Torvill and Dean revolutionized the sport with their immortal “Bolero” that won them Olympic gold in 1984. But there is so much more to them than the “Bolero”. Torvill and Dean brought Ice Dance to another level. Their passionate Rhumba Original Set Pattern Dance from 1994 has been developed into a Compulsory Dance, for example. They continued to create unique programs in shows and tours and as choreographers. “From our point of view it has been a life giving exercise. We didn’t know that we would still be involved/a part of [Figure Skating], this far into our lives and that was over 30 years ago, and we’re still doing it, maybe we shouldn’t be doing it but we are doing it and still enjoying it as well.” Tamara Moskvina and Alexei Mishin were successful Pair Skaters end of the 1960s, winning medals at the ISU World and European Championships. While they were technically ahead of their time as skaters, they created their true legend as coaches. They have been coaching for more than 50 years and educated generations of Figure Skaters. Moskvina’s Pairs have won a total of 63 medals at Olympic Games, ISU World and European Championships, which makes her the most successful Pair Skating coach in the World.

A new figure skating competition was introduced at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games (WOG) – the team event. The introduction of this new competition raises questions of what would have happened if a team event had been contested in past WOG. This paper develops a method for determining which teams might have earned medals if the team event had been held in the past, and applies the method to a hypothetical competition for 2010. This paper also identifies relative contributions of skaters to their countries’ teams in the hypothetical competition. These methods can be useful for fans and for electors who vote on candidates for figure skating halls of fame. Keywords: Olympics, skating, hypothetical event, player evaluation 1.
