The outer barrier reef is punctuated with idyllic sandspits dotted with coconut palms. The high islands in the central lagoon rise into the blue Micronesian skies. The word “Chuuk” means “high mountains” in the Chuukese language. Chuuk State, which is one of four states in the Federated States of Micronesia, consists of 290 islands with 250 islands uninhabited. The islands have natural beauty and most still display a traditional lifestyle. The main population area is within the vast Chuuk Lagoon (sometimes called Truk Lagoon) where the vestiges of WWII attract divers from around the world. The huge inner lagoon is famously known for the “World’s Greatest Wreck Diving.” The islands were heavily attacked by the US in the Second World War then bypassed and blockaded by the Allies. The sunken hulls of Japanese ships remain along with ruined weapons and fortifications on land. Many divers feel it has the best collection of shipwrecks and WWII era airplanes in the world. The hulks have been transformed into amazing “shipreefs”, holding the very best of the undersea world and maritime history at one site. Incredible corals in a kaleidoscope of colors and shapes fed by warm, clear waters attract divers worldwide. The reefs also are home to a great variety of fish and corals. Visitors can see the islands and there are many “picnic islands” that are great for day trips and relaxing. -

Cape Range National Park Management Plan No 65 2010 R N V E M E O N G T E O H F T W A E I S L T A E R R N A U S T CAPE RANGE NATIONAL PARK Management Plan 2010 Department of Environment and Conservation Conservation Commission of Western Australia VISION By 2020, the park and the Ningaloo Marine Park will be formally recognised amongst the world’s most valuable conservation and nature based tourism icons. The conservation values of the park will be in better condition than at present. This will have been achieved by reducing stress on ecosystems to promote their natural resilience, and facilitating sustainable visitor use. In particular, those values that are not found or are uncommon elsewhere will have been conserved, and their special conservation significance will be recognised by the local community and visitors. The park will continue to support a wide range of nature-based recreational activities with a focus on preserving the remote and natural character of the region. Visitors will continue to enjoy the park, either as day visitors from Exmouth or by camping in the park itself at one of the high quality camping areas. The local community will identify with the park and the adjacent Ningaloo Marine Park, and recognise that its values are of international significance. An increasing number of community members will support and want to be involved in its ongoing management. The Indigenous heritage of the park will be preserved by the ongoing involvement of the traditional custodians, who will have a critical and active role in jointly managing the cultural and conservation values of the park. -

CRICKET MEMORABILIA SOCIETY POSTAL AUCTION CLOSING AT NOON 10th JULY 2020 Conditions of Postal Sale The CMS reserves the right to refuse items which are damaged or unsuitable, or we have doubts about authenticity. Reserves can be placed on lots but must be agreed with the CMS. They should reflect realistic values/expectations and not be the “highest price” expected. The CMS will take 7% of the price realised, the vendor 93% which will normally be paid no later than 6 weeks after the auction. The CMS will undertake to advertise the memorabilia for auction on its website no later than 3 weeks prior to the closing date of the auction. Bids will only be accepted from CMS members. Postal bids must be in writing or e-mail by the closing date and time shown above. Generally, no item will be sold below 10% of the lower estimate without reference to the vendor.. Thus, an item with a £10-15 estimate can be sold for £9, but not £8, without approval. The incremental scale for the acceptance of bids is as follows: £2 increments up to £20, then £20/22/25/28/30 up to £50, then £5 increments to £100 and £10 increments above that. So, if there are two postal bids at £25 and £30, the item will go to the higher bidder at £28. Should there be two identical bids, the first received will win. Bids submitted between increments will be accepted, thus a £52 bid will not be rounded either up or down. Items will be sent to successful postal bidders the week after the auction and will be sent by the cheapest rate commensurate with the value and size of the item. -

PREVIOUS PAGE: Diver in interior of Betty plane My dream history lesson includes a tropical Pacific island where I step off a beautiful boat soaked in sunshine the warm Micronesian waters and descend on a coral cov- ered ship that was part of World War II. This dream and these ships came to life for me during a recent trip aboard the MV Odyssey liveaboard. Truk Lagoon, now known as Chuuk, is most certainly one of the world’s greatest wreck diving destinations. These lush green islands with palm trees and calm blue waters make it almost impossible to fathom the immense battle that took place on the 17th and 18th of February, 1944. ABSTRACT – The Australian pygopodid genus Aprasia comprises a group of small, morphologically conservative, worm-like fossorial lizards, many of which are distributed along the west coast of the continent. This study re-examines the taxonomic distinctiveness of the two most northerly occurring species in Western Australia: A. fusca and A. rostrata, which are very similar in morphology. A combined morphological and allozyme analysis revealed these two species to be conspecifi c with A. rostrata considered a senior synonym of A. fusca. As a consequence, we have redescribed A. rostrata. The allozyme analysis also revealed a new species, named here as Aprasia litorea sp. nov. This species occurs in the Lake Macleod region, well to the south of its congener, A. rostrata, and the two species are diagnosable using a conservative suite of morphological and meristic characters. Pseudoscorpions are among the most diverse of the smaller arachnid orders, but there is relatively little information about the distribution of these tiny animals, especially in Neotropical caves. Here, we map the distribution of the pseudoscorpions in Brazilian caves and record 12 families and 22 genera based on collections analyzed over several years, totaling 239 caves from 13 states in Brazil. Among them, two families (Atemnidae and Geogarypidae) with three genera (Brazilatemnus Muchmore, 1975, Paratemnoides Harvey, 1991 and Geogarypus Chamberlin, 1930) are recorded for the first time in cave habitats as, well as seven other genera previously unknown for Brazilian caves (Olpiolum Beier, 1931, Pachyolpium Beier 1931, Tyrannochthonius Chamberlin, 1929, Lagynochthonius Beier, 1951, Neocheiridium Beier 1932, Ideoblothrus Balzan, 1892 and Heterolophus To¨mo¨sva´ry, 1884). These genera are from families already recorded in this habitat, which have their distributional ranges expanded for all other previously recorded genera. Additionally, we summarize records of Pseudoscorpiones based on previously published literature and our data for 314 caves. -
