The Naviglio Grande which ran from Abbiategrasso, ran into this lake, as well as the Pavese canal which joins it at the junction of the Ticino and the Olona river which today runs by eleny.shai underground. La Darsena was built in 1603 by the Spanish governor the Count of Fuentes. It was there that cargoes were loaded and unloaded from the barges which reached the city via the Lombardian rivers. It found its present form in 1920 when, with the demolition of the Spanish ramparts it was expanded and the long commercial quay was constructed along Via D'Annunzio where on Saturday the traditional Sinigaglia market takes place. It was through the Darsena that the regional canals were linked up with the city system, enabling and developing the commercial and artisanal activity of the city. The city centre was thus linked by a water network to the Ticino, the Adda to the sea and the great lakes of Lombardy Viale Gabriele D' Annunzio, Port Ticnese, Milan Raimondi di Pettinaroli "Luxury Letters" Founded in 1776, Raimondi di Pettinaroli is one of the oldest shops in the city. Do you want to forget that your fiancé that has left you? Do you want to meet someone at any cost? The place for you is Loolapaloosa, the bar that has introduced Milan to the mode of dancing on tables and bars and throwing yourself into dancing with unrestricted abandon. The atmosphere is by Libertinus decisively enthralling and, if you have the strength, you could dance until dawn in one of the few bars that go truly late into the night. A part of the merit goes to the staff and the bartenders who do not think twice to incite the rebellious characters here, or to often encourage the women to step onto the large wood tables to dance. The Irish-style pub, offers the best there is to drink and, as in all of Milan, one is lavished with drinks without even having to ask. The only drawback are the narrow spaces which are perhaps designed on purpose to allow people to be seen and to dance as close as possible. +39 02 655 5693 Corso Como 15, Milan Grand Visconti Palace Wellness Center "Relax In Majestic Style" Grand Visconti Palace Wellness Center is part of the Grand Visconti Palace Hotel. • Towards the Expo 2015
Towards the Expo 2015 1 Towards the Expo 2015 An Expo is a large international event that aims at the enrichment of human knowledge and technological progress, to promote cooperation and dialogue with international press. Given the importance of these major events, for almost a century now the need has arisen to standardise some aspects, such as duration, frequency and above all quality. The Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), established in 1928 with the International Convention of Paris is the international organisation responsible for establishing the parameters that control the Expo; the objective of the BIE is therefore to guarantee continuity of these events and maintain the level of international prestige earned over the years, selecting venues and dates and organising new Expos. The members of this organisation, with official headquarters in Paris, are all the States that have signed the convention. There are two different types of Expo: "Universal Expositions" (World Expo) and "International Expositions" (International Expo). The Expositions in the first category involve topics that concern the whole of humanity and therefore are global in nature. States, International Organisations, NGOs, Companies and other institutions can participate in these events, there is no limit to the size of the Exposition venue, and participants arrange the set-up of their own pavilions. Since 1996 these events have lasted six months and take place every five years. A Universal Expo will take place in Milan in 2015. 122 On the other hand the “International Expositions" take place in the period between the two Universal Expos and last for three months. The possible participants are the same as for a Universal Expo while the theme is more specific.

Florence was the centre of the Italian Renaissance. The fruits of the city’s rebirth are still evident in its seemingly endless array of museums, churches and palazzi. With its historic centre classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Duomo, the elegant and beautiful cathedral, dominates the city and is an unmistakable reference point in your wanderings. The River Arno, which cuts through the oldest part of the city, is crowned with the Ponte Vecchio bridge lined with shops and held up by stilts. Dating back to the 14th century, it is the only bridge that survived attacks during WWII. Standing by the river at night, when the city is illuminated with a myriad twinkling lights, is unforgettable. But more remains of Florence’s incomparable heritage than stones and paint, the city’s indomitable spirit has also survived the centuries, ensuring Florentine life today its liveliness and sophistication. In fact, industrialisation became increasingly important during the tenure of Giovanni Giolitti (1901-1914), who brought undisputed leadership to the city in economic and financial matters as witnessed by the International Exhibition of 1906 (2).
