Administrative history / Biographical sketch

Note William Ross Macdonald (1891-1976) was a lawyer, politician, Solicitor General of Canada, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, and Chancellor of Waterloo Lutheran University (now Wilfrid Laurier University) in Waterloo, Ontario. Macdonald received his education at the University of Toronto, and Osgoode Hall Law School. He was the Liberal MP Brantford, Ontario in the 1930s and 1940s. Macdonald served as Deputy Speaker (1945-49) and Speaker of the House of Commons (1949-1953). In 1953 he was appointed to the Senate and became Leader of the Government in the Senate. From 1954 to 1957 Macdonald was Solicitor General of Canada. He served as Lieutenant Governor of Ontario from 1968 to 1974. In 1964 W. Ross McDonald was appointed Chancellor of Waterloo Lutheran University, a position he held until 1972..
