Introducción Este análisis de la pobreza en la Región Huetar Atlántica (RHA) y sus alternativas de reducirla y mitigarla es parte de un estudio sobre el empleo, el ingreso y el bienestar de la población realizada por los autores como apoyo regional auspiciado por el Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID). Se basa en parte en los informes sobre el mercado laboral, la capacidad y potencial de la economía regional, y los proyectos y propuestas presentado por instituciones, programas y organizaciones en la RHA durante la elaboración del estudio. -

Revised December 2014 Assessing Bird Species Richness within Shade-Grown Coffee Farms in Chiapas, Mexico / ID: 0251711 Overall Aim The goal of this project was to identify mechanisms and conservation strategies across agro-forestry systems in the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve in Chiapas, Mexico. In particular we analyzed key biodiversity, economic, and social components that impact land-use change and ecosystem services in coffee production areas, focusing on how to improve sustainable production and conservation of nature. 2 Assessing Bird Species Richness within Shade-Grown Coffee Farms in Chiapas, Mexico / ID: 0251711 Section 1 Summary The agroforestry systems with coffee at the Sierra Madre of Chiapas, as a part of the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor region, are important for bird species. Agroforestry ecosystems also represent sustainable livelihoods for indigenous groups on the region. Sustainable coffee farming system represents a less human impact on the ecosystem. However, not all coffee producers on the region produce on the same way. Not all the inhabitants are aware of the importance of birds, as a part of the great natural capital of la Sierra Madre, but they either are prepared for the climate change risks and impacts. In this sense, this project seeks to understand, generate and communicate information useful for coffee farmers and their families. The goal is to understand social and economic factors to maintain and increase agroforestry systems with sustainable coffee. -

China Author for correspondence: Xiao-Hua Jin, [email protected] Abstract The phylogenetic position of two enigmatic Asian orchid genera, Thaia and Tangtsinia, were inferred from molecular data and morphological evidence. An analysis of combined plastid data (rbcL + matK + psaB) using Bayesian and parsimony methods revealed that Thaia is a sister group to the higher epidendroids, and tribe Neottieae is polyphyletic unless Thaia is removed. Morphological evidence, such as plicate leaves and corms, the structure of the gynostemium and the micromorphol- ogy of pollinia, also indicates that Thaia should be excluded from Neottieae. Thaieae, a new tribe, is therefore tentatively established. Using Bayesian and parsimony methods, analyses of combined plastid and nuclear datasets (rbcL, matK, psaB, trnL-F, ITS, Xdh) confirmed that the monotypic genus Tangtsinia was nested within and is synonymous with the genus Cepha- lanthera, in which an apical stigma has evolved independently at least twice. -

Relationships among all subtribes of Neotropical Cymbidieae (Orchidaceae) were estimated using combined matK/ycf1 plastid sequence data for 289 taxa. The matrix was analyzed using RAxML. Bootstrap (BS) analyses yield 100% BS support for all subtribes except Stanhopeinae (87%). Generic relationships within subtribes are highly resolved and are generally congruent with those presented in previous studies and as summarized in Genera Orchidacearum. Relationships among subtribes are largely unresolved. The Szlachetko generic classification of Maxillariinae is not supported. A new combination is made for Maxillaria cacaoensis J.T.Atwood in Camaridium. These include a single, sessile, cordate leaf that clasps the base of the inflorescence and lies flat on the substrate, petals that are long-decurrent on the column, labellum margins free from sides of the column and a column provided with two separate, cup-shaped stigmatic areas. Szlachetko Summary: A new species of Pterichis, P. elliptica, is described based on Ecuadorian material. It resembles P. pauciflora, but can be easily distinguished from this species based on the lip form. Morphological characteristics of the novelty are complemented with illustrations and taxonomic notes. The updated key to Ecuadorian species of Pterichis is provided. Keywords: biodiversity, Cranichidinae, Neotropics, orchids, taxonomy, new species The Andean orchid flora remains poorly recognized and numerous new species from this region are described every year (e.g. Noguera-Savelli et al. 2008; Carnevali & Cetzal-Ix 2012). Unfortunately, transformations of the mountain vegetation in South America caused by human activities and global climate warming severely disturb the environmental sustainability of high- Andean forest, subparamo and paramo (Buytaert et al. 2006). This habitat loss is by far the main threat to most orchids (Hágsater & Dumont 1996), especially to those strictly related to specific bioclimatic conditions of high mountains. The diversity of such plants deserves particular attention of taxonomists. Our recent studies were focused on the genus Pterichis which was described in 1840 by John Lindley based on a Peruvian plant. The majority of species is distributed along the Andes from Colombia and Venezuela in the north to Bolivia in the south, and only a few occur in Costa Rica and Jamaica. Plants grow usually in subparamo or paramo, but some population were also found in the high-montane forest. -

Wita Stwosza 59, 80-308 Gdańsk, Poland. [email protected] Abstract. The floristic, geographical and ecological analysis of the orchid flora of the department of Valle del Cauca are presented. The study area is located in the southwestern Colombia and it covers about 22 140 km2 of land across 4 physiographic units. All analysis are based on the fieldwork and on the revision of the herbarium material. A list of 572 orchid species occurring in the department of Valle del Cauca is presented. Two species, Arundina graminifolia and Vanilla planifolia, are non-native elements of the studied orchid flora. The greatest species diversity is observed in the montane regions of the study area, especially in wet montane forest.
