15th of May 2012, Bucharest – FOR IMMEDIATE DISTRIBUTION MAESTRO DORIN MARC: “Fundatia Sergiu Celibidache offers them [the masterclasses] free of charge to students and thus the music epitomizes what it really signifies; not the matter, but the spirit” Starting tomorrow, Dorin Marc will hold a Contrabass Masterclass at the Bucharest University of Music, between 16th and 20th of May, being the third artist who arrives at the Sergiu Celibidache 100 Festival. The Maestro arrived this afternoon in Bucharest, from Nuremberg (Germany), where, as a matter of fact, he is a professor at the Nuremberg-Augsburg Conservatory. Dorin Marc holds masterclasses all over Europe and is requested in specialty juries at international competitions. At the moment, he is also a professor at the Toscanini Academy from Bologna. “What I value most when it comes to the organization of these masterclasses is that, besides the fact that they bring added value to the musical culture of a country, Fundatia Sergiu Celibidache offers them for free to student and thus the music epitomizes what it really signifies; not the matter, but the spirit”, opinionates Maestro Dorin Marc. Short Biography Dorin Marc was born in 1958, in Romania and is a graduate of the Bucharest University of Music, the class of contrabass of Prof. Ion Cheptea. Between 1981 and 1992 he was a member of “Transilvania” State Philharmonic and, in parallel, between 1987 and 1992, first contrabassist in “Orchestra Internazionale d’Italia”. From 1992, he is first contrabassist of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, under (the baton of) Maestro Sergiu Celibidache. From 2003, when he fills up the position of professor at the Music Academy in Nuremberg, he dedicates himself with preponderance over the pedagogical activity. From his study years, he obtains First Prize at the 1977, 1979 and 1986 editions of national competitions and in 1986 he got the Prize of Musical Critique. Internationally, he gained the laurels of grand prestige competitions such as: Markneukirchen - Germany, Geneva – Switzerland, ARD Munich. In 1991, in Mittenwald, Germany, beside the First Prize, he gained the statute of member for life of the International Society of Contrabassists. Dorin Marc played, as a soloist, with all the philharmonic orchestras in Romania and has held recitals and concerts in Bulgaria, Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, Hungary, Spain, Sweden and Denmark. He recorded at the Romanian Radio-Television as well as at other televisions in Germany and Switzerland. In 1991, he made a record at Electrecord with the contrabass quartet “Mobile”. Alongside other valuable Romanian instrumental performers, Dorin Marc becomes actively involved in training young musicians, members of the National Youth Orchestra, which was founded by violoncellist player Prof. Marin Cazacu. Dorin Marc holds masterclasses at the Bucharest University of Music, as well as all over Europe and is requested in specialty juries at international competitions. At the moment, he is also a professor at the Toscanini Academy in Bologna. The “Sergiu Celibidache 100” Festival is an event organized under the High Patronage of the President of Romania in partnership with Bucharest City Hall.
