It's been over 120 years in waiting - but Bootle produced a magnificent Bootle Football Club - Founder members of the performance to beat Everton U21s in the semi-finals of the Liverpool Senior Football Alliance 1889, Cup. The Football League Div2* Despite the blues brining a strong line-up featuring the likes of Conor McAleny, 1892 & The Northwest Counties Football League Hallam Hope, John Lundstram and George Green, it was the current holders 1982 who started the better and could have been in front inside the opening 10 Awarded FA Charter Standard Status in minutes. November 2011 Chris Tyson advanced down the Everton right, before playing in Daniel O'Connor, who found Tom Peterson inside the Everton box. But Peterson’s An associated committee first time shot was comfortably saved by blues goalkeeper Stanek. Billy Smart consisting of elected members: soon tested Stanek again, with a half volley outside the Everton box. The blues created chances of their own. First Conor McAleny saw his shot go Frank Doran Snr wide of the far post. Before Connor Grant headed over from 12 yards out after Joe Benton MP George Green crossed. The second half stated slowly with neither side creating any clear cut chances. Harry Charsley headed Joe Williams’s free-kick back across Bobby Capstick, Dave Miley jnr the face of the game for Courtney Duffus, who came sliding in at the far post, Ray Woodhouse, Joe Doran but his first time effort rolled the wrong side of the post. The bucks then had a golden chance themselves to win the game with just 8 Joe Doran minutes remaining. Neil McQueen's long ball was missed controlled by O'Connor, but fell perfectly into the path of Peterson, who looked destined to Bobby Capstick score, but for a superb tackle by Everton full-back Ben McLaughlin. Neither side could find the elusive winner, resulting in the game heading to Joe Doran penalties. Neil McQueen Tom Peterson scored Bootle’s first, before John Lundstram saw his penalty Richie Boswarva saved by bucks’ keeper Dean Porter. Then Billy Smart, Joe Williams, Chris Matt Kirby Tyson, Harry Charlsley, Connor Christiansen and Curtis Langton all scored, John Charnock leaving Jamie Hay the chance to win the tie for Bootle. However, Hay’s Nick Browne penalty hit the post and when Ibou Touray scored his penalty it sent the shoot- Darren Carr out into sudden death. The bucks now face Tranmere Rovers in the final, on 28th April at Prenton Park. 26 3 *Original Club folded in 1893 The original Bootle FC were formed in 1880 and played at Hawthorne Road (next to the cricket ground). They were in fact Everton FC’s biggest rivals. Bootle were the first team to win the competition and narrowly missed out on becoming a founder member of the football league, to Everton.

In 1889–90 Bootle became founder members of the new Football Alliance, which soon became the second division (now the championship!). That season was the most successful as we finished league runners-up, reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, where we lost to Blackburn Rovers (0-7). When the Alliance merged with the Football League in 1892, Bootle became founder members of the new Second Division. However, despite a respectable 8th place final position, the club dropped out after one season and seemingly disappeared due to financial problems. Bootle FC’s place in the football league was taken by Liverpool FC.

Football returned to Hawthorne Road when a new club, Bootle Athletic. was later formed with the new team initially playing in the Liverpool Leagues. In 1948 the club moved to nearby Bootle Stadium and were elected to the Lancashire Combination 2, which was won at the first attempt. However, Bootle struggled in the top-flight and after several tough seasons withdrew and folded during the 1953–54 campaign.

In 1953, the current club was formed as Langton and played in the local leagues. After a very successful spell in the Liverpool County Combination (which we won on numerous occasions) the club reverted back to it’s It’s better known identity of Bootle F.C. in 1973; and a year later joined the Lancashire Combination, which we won in 1976 and 1977. Bootle then joined the Second Division of the Cheshire County League, which was won in our first season, and we were promoted to the First Division. In 1982 the Cheshire County League was one of the leagues that merged to form the North West Counties League, which Bootle duly joined, becoming a member of the First Division. The club spent most of their time in the First Division until 2000 when we unfortunately dropped into the Second Division. However, despite finishing 6th in 2002, the club dropped into the Liverpool County Combination as Bucks Park was consigned to history. In 2006 the club, with a new ground, were elected back into Division 2 of the North West Counties League. In 2009 Bootle won promotion to the NWCL Premier Division and also won the Championship. In 2009/10, our first season back in the NWCFL Premier Division Bootle finished a NWCFL highest placing of 3rd. In 2010/11 finished 6th place. They equalled the 3rd place again in 2012.

2013 saw Bootle come so close to promotion, narrowly missing out with three games to go, and eventually finishing 3rd again. However they put that disappointment aside to win the Liverpool Senior Cup for the first time in 124 years. 25 Hello to all supporters players committee of both Bootle FC and our visitors Glossop North End and welcome all to the Delta taxis stadium.

It’s been a good few weeks around the club, with a great win at Barnoldswick coming off the back of a landmark night in MATCHDAY PRICES the Liverpool Senior Cup semi-final with the win over Everton. I was really impressed with our players and their attitude in 1ST TEAM: £5 ADULTS particular - especially the younger lads. I expect it from the senior lads as I know them well.

£2 CONCESSIONS I want lads here that will listen and want to learn and most importantly want to do well for this football club, and in that Everton game it epitomized these traits and I UNDER 16’S FREE was delighted. The Barnoldswick game we went 2-0 down pretty quickly and it’s always hard to get anything back when that happens. So the character shown in that game was brilliant and Tom Peterson topped it off with a great hat-trick.

Glossop are on a great run, not losing in the league since November and have thrown themselves into the promotion mix. It will give us something different to think about and understand tonight and I’m looking forward to the challenge.

FREE ENTRY FOR ALL We have a big squad here now and a decent run of games so it gives me a chance to have a good look at the lads we have and take stock for over the summer. With a place in a cup final and a promotion chase to focus on in the final weeks of the season, Formby's joint-manager Jim Shirley believes that his squad has the quality required to finish the season with some silverware. Saturday's win over AFC Darwen extended the Squirrels' unbeaten league run to 21 games, with the last time they lost a league game being away back on the 16th October, when Ashton Town left Victoria Park with a 1-0 win. It's been a tremendous run, and as Jim pointed out, is all the more remarkable considering that at one stage after a few weeks in the season, Formby had recorded just one win in seven league and cup games. "We got off to a pretty poor start and that is where we have let ourselves down this season", said Jim. "If we had been playing then like we are now, the league would have been sewn up. I think we had a bit of a hangover from last season, with not getting promoted. We lost a couple of players and some of them were disappointed with the situation about the ground and not being able to get promotion because of that. But then we got ourselves together again, and I think we have been the better team in most games we have played, even in the games we have lost. So we have had a good run, and probably in a lot of other years it would be enough to see us clear". Despite the Squirrels current form, Jim is taking nothing for granted in the next few weeks, and is not anticipating any easy games in the run in. "I think the league this year is tremendous. I think that the standard this year is better than last year, and there are more teams who can give you a good game", he observed."Even games we have won by convincing score lines, there has only been ciggie papers between the teams before we scored. The fact is, you might win a game 5-1 but you've had to work hard for it, and even when you are winning 5-1, teams are still coming at you and keep going right to the end. In this league no one says "Oh right, that's it" and throws the towel in. "The Easter weekend is likely to be when a lot gets decided. We've got 1874 Northwich at home, and although they beat us in the Challenge Cup at Widnes Vikings' ground, the goal that beat us was first class, a cross from their winger and a great header, everything about it was top drawer. "Then our last league game is against Atherton Colls at home. We played Colls at their place in a tremendous game, we got it back to 2-2 and then saved a last minute penalty. You can't buy that, it's just fantastic, and there have been games this season that have been a great advert for our league". Prior to those games, Formby face Hanley Town in the First Division Challenge Trophy final at the Millbank Linnets Stadium, and Jim believes his players have some unfinished business where League cup finals are concerned. Just under twelve months ago, Formby lost 3-0 to Runcorn Linnets in the League Challenge Cup final, a game which still rankles with him. "You can never make up for losing in a cup final, and I think that for all the time I have been involved at Formby that was the most disappointing game. Hanley are a very resilient side and they play good football. I think it's going to be a tremendous final".

7 NEXT UP AT HOME GLOSSOP FOR THE BUCKS NORTH END SPORTS It’s a classic quiz question ‘which is the smallest town in England to have SATURDAY 26TH APRIL 2014 3PM KO been the home of a top division football club?’ The answer - Glossop.

Of course, it’s a long time since that 1899/1900 season but the Hillmen (or Hillsmen, as they were known back then, in honour of owner Sir Samuel Hill-Wood) supporters never forget the proud history of the club. However more recently they were given some more moments that they will talk TRANMERE ROVERS about in the town for years to come and are hopeful of providing a few more. LCFA SENIOR CUP Founded in 1886, Glossop North End began by playing friendly amateur matches. They entered the North Cheshire League in 1890 and introduced professional players in 1894. Their Chairman and benefactor was local cotton magnate Sir Samuel Hill-Wood who later left to become Chairman FINAL of Woolwich Arsenal. In 1898, on their third application, they were admitted to the Football League. MONDAY 28TH APRIL 2014 7.45PM KO

In their first season, by finishing runners-up to Manchester City, they won AT PRENTON PARK promotion to the Football League Division 1. Unfortunately, they spent just one year in the division, the best victory being a 3-0 result against Nottingham Forest.

Glossop played in League Division 2 until the end of the 1914/15 season, In 1908/09 reaching the quarter finals of the FA Cup where they lost to Bristol City in a replay. They ceased playing during the latter part of the First World War but were reformed by Oswald Partington MP, who had been club captain in the 1890’s.

Between the wars the club played in the Lancashire Combination and the Manchester League, of which they were champions in 1927/28. They also won the Gilgryst Cup on three occasions.

Matches again ceased during the Second World War, Glossop rejoining the Manchester League afterwards. They won the Gilgryst Cup for a fourth time in 1949. In 1955 they moved from their original ground at North Road to the present home at Surrey Street. Since then they have played in the Lancashire MATCH Combination, the Manchester and the Cheshire Leagues before becoming founder members of the North West Counties League in 1982.

CENTRE Glossop have spent most of the time in the First (now Premier) division, although much of it was spent at the lower end fighting against relegation, whilst the club itself fought for survival, victim of a criminally corrupt owner in the 1980s. It was only the hard work of board members and supporters kept the club afloat after the disgraced regime. There was a little success — the club was Manchester Premier Cup winners in 1997 and 1998, and Derbyshire Cup winners in 2000-01.

More recently though, things have improved for the Hillmen. 2008/09 saw the biggest day in the history of the club after Steve Young & Terry Hincks’ side embarked on a terrific FA Vase run which saw North End reach the final at Wembley. They played in every single round of the competition leaving some fantastic memories for supporters along the way... none more dramatic than the 123rd minute equalizer in the semi-final against Chalfont St. Peter. This led to a penalty shootout where the Hillman seized the opportunity to head down Wembley Way.

Whilst the final saw a disappointing result — losing 2-0 to Whitley Bay — the run awakened interest in the Hillmen throughout the town. There is now a thriving Supporters Club, which has funded makeovers to the ground and helped generate interest in the club home and away.

This forms part of a more dramatic overhaul that has seen a refurbishment of changing rooms, a new clubhouse and a new covered standing area. Ground grading for the league above has been achieved too and the club feels it is ready to progress up the pyramid. In new manager Chris Willcock they hope to have found the man to take the first steps on that path. With optimism high again, everyone at the club is hopeful that Glossop North End can now realise plans for an exciting future as a club at the heart of the community. Trophies are not important for junior football as the development of the children is paramount to the future of the community and the football club. However, there is so much opportunity for trophies for a number of the youth sides this season. Lets have a quick look at what’s happening:

Bootle Juniors Under 7’s finished top of the Bootle JFL and are into the cup final. Bootle FC under 7’s are through to the semi final of the Walton & Kirkdale JFL.

Bootle Bucks under 8’s have a title decider on 27th to decide the Bootle Junior league.

Bootle Juniors under 10’s are through to the Bootle JFL Green Park Cup final, while Booltle Bucks under 10’s need a point to guarantee the Bootle junior league title.

Bootle Juniors under 13’s currently top their Bootle junior league and are on course for some more silverware this season.

Bootle under 16’s currently lie 2nd in the table with it all to play for in the final few games.

Bootle Under 17’s are flying high in 3rd place of the Northwest Youth Alliance and although they don’t have the points to win it, they should feel proud of their performances this season.

Bootle Under 18’s are on course to win the Liverpool County Under 18’s after a great season. Ste Miller’s charges are 9 points clear with 3 games to play.

Bootle Bucks under 18’s remain 2nd in the west Cheshire league, just 3 points off top spot with it all to play for.

Well done to all the Bootle FC teams for their continued development this season and thanks to the hard work of the volunteers.
