Neil McQueen's long ball was missed controlled by O'Connor, but fell perfectly into the path of Peterson, who looked destined to Bobby Capstick score, but for a superb tackle by Everton full-back Ben McLaughlin. Neither side could find the elusive winner, resulting in the game heading to Joe Doran penalties. Then Billy Smart, Joe Williams, Chris Matt Kirby Tyson, Harry Charlsley, Connor Christiansen and Curtis Langton all scored, John Charnock leaving Jamie Hay the chance to win the tie for Bootle. However, Hay’s Nick Browne penalty hit the post and when Ibou Touray scored his penalty it sent the shoot- Darren Carr out into sudden death. Chris Low, Mathew Pennington, Dean Porter, Ben McLaughlin all scored their penalties leaving the shoot-out tied at 6-6. Ray Woodhouse The bucks now face Tranmere Rovers in the final, on 28th April at Prenton Park. 26 3 *Original Club folded in 1893 The original Bootle FC were formed in 1880 and played at Hawthorne Road (next to the cricket ground). They were in fact Everton FC’s biggest rivals. Bootle were the first team to win the Liverpool Senior Cup competition and narrowly missed out on becoming a founder member of the football league, to Everton. In 1889–90 Bootle became founder members of the new Football Alliance, which soon became the second division (now the championship!). That season was the most successful as we finished league runners-up, reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, where we lost to Blackburn Rovers (0-7). When the Alliance merged with the Football League in 1892, Bootle became founder members of the new Second Division. However, despite a respectable 8th place final position, the club dropped out after one season and seemingly disappeared due to financial problems. Bootle FC’s place in the football league was taken by Liverpool FC. Football returned to Hawthorne Road when a new club, Bootle Athletic. was later formed with the new team initially playing in the Liverpool Leagues. In 1948 the club moved to nearby Bootle Stadium and were elected to the Lancashire Combination 2, which was won at the first attempt. However, Bootle struggled in the top-flight and after several tough seasons withdrew and folded during the 1953–54 campaign. In 1953, the current club was formed as Langton and played in the local leagues. After a very successful spell in the Liverpool County Combination (which we won on numerous occasions) the club reverted back to it’s It’s better known identity of Bootle F.C. in 1973; and a year later joined the Lancashire Combination, which we won in 1976 and 1977. Bootle then joined the Second Division of the Cheshire County League, which was won in our first season, and we were promoted to the First Division. In 1982 the Cheshire County League was one of the leagues that merged to form the North West Counties League, which Bootle duly joined, becoming a member of the First Division. The club spent most of their time in the First Division until 2000 when we unfortunately dropped into the Second Division. However, despite finishing 6th in 2002, the club dropped into the Liverpool County Combination as Bucks Park was consigned to history. In 2006 the club, with a new ground, were elected back into Division 2 of the North West Counties League. In 2009 Bootle won promotion to the NWCL Premier Division and also won the Championship. In 2009/10, our first season back in the NWCFL Premier Division Bootle finished a NWCFL highest placing of 3rd. In 2010/11 finished 6th place. They equalled the 3rd place again in 2012. 2013 saw Bootle come so close to promotion, narrowly missing out with three games to go, and eventually finishing 3rd again. However they put that disappointment aside to win the Liverpool Senior Cup for the first time in 124 years. 25 Hello to all supporters players committee of both Bootle FC and our visitors Glossop North End and welcome all to the Delta taxis stadium. It’s been a good few weeks around the club, with a great win at Barnoldswick coming off the back of a landmark night in MATCHDAY PRICES the Liverpool Senior Cup semi-final with the win over Everton. I was really impressed with our players and their attitude in 1ST TEAM: £5 ADULTS particular - especially the younger lads. I expect it from the senior lads as I know them well. £2 CONCESSIONS I want lads here that will listen and want to learn and most importantly want to do well for this football club, and in that Everton game it epitomized these traits and I UNDER 16’S FREE was delighted. The Barnoldswick game we went 2-0 down pretty quickly and it’s always hard to get anything back when that happens. So the character shown in that game was brilliant and Tom Peterson topped it off with a great hat-trick. Glossop are on a great run, not losing in the league since November and have thrown themselves into the promotion mix. It will give us something different to think about and understand tonight and I’m looking forward to the challenge. Saturday's win over AFC Darwen extended the Squirrels' unbeaten league run to 21 games, with the last time they lost a league game being away back on the 16th October, when Ashton Town left Victoria Park with a 1-0 win. It's been a tremendous run, and as Jim pointed out, is all the more remarkable considering that at one stage after a few weeks in the season, Formby had recorded just one win in seven league and cup games.
