GOVERNMENT OF NAGALAND Statements under The Nagaland Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Act, 2005 ( Laid in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly along with the Budget 2020-21 ) Finance Department Government of Nagaland 1 Form F – 1 (See rules 3 and 4) MACRO ECONOMIC FRAMEWORK STATEMENT 1. Overview of the State Economy : 1.1 The size, composition and growth of the economy determine the revenue potential of the State and the size of the budget; and the size of the budget determines the level of public expenditure. The economy is measured in terms of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) at current prices. The projected GSDP and per capita income for the years 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 are as in Table 1.1 below: Table 1.1 (Rs. in Crore) 2015-16 2016-17 2017-18 2018-19 2019-20 (actual) (actual) (quick) (Advance (Advance) GSDP at current 19524 21488 23623 25986 27140 (R. cr.) Per capita income (current prices) (R.) 86890 93210 99870 107060 109430 2. Overview of State Government Finances: 2.1 The fiscal base and fiscal health of a State are directly related to the development of the State. Public Investment in the infrastructure would expand the productive capacity of the economy and thus expand the revenue generating potential of the State. The fiscal base is determined by the size of the economy, which can be expanded in the long run. Thus, in the medium term, the fiscal health of the State has to be improved so that the Government can increase the development expenditure to expand the economic base.

  • 17 Assessment of Wild Life in Nagaland: a Case Study Of
The Cyprus Journal of Sciences, Vol. 13, 2015/17-27 ASSESSMENT OF WILD LIFE IN NAGALAND: A CASE STUDY OF INTANKI NATIONAL PARK TONGDI JAMIR*, LIKHUMLA SANGTAM, LIVIKA MURU, NYANBENI PATTON AND BENARO FLYNN** ABSTRACT In the recent past the wild life in the state of Nagaland is threatened by human beings. Therefore, wild life in Intanki National Park (Peren District) of Nagaland was selected to be assessed during the period from 1978-2011. For this, linear regression was used to find out the annual trend. The result indicates that Mithun, Green pigeon, Sambar Western Hoolock Gibbon, Fox, Squirrel, Wild boar, Jungle Fowl and Pied Hornbill show significant increase. This increase can be attributed by better policing whereas Barking Deer, Elephant, Monkeys, Wild Cat and Civet show a decreasing trend but not a significant one. The analysis also reveals that in the Intanki National Park, the elephant population is decreasing significantly, the same pattern is observed for the state but not significantly. It is also observed that the elephant corridor linking different habitats has been broken at various points due to human settlement creating a human-elephant conflict. Further, elephants prefer the secondary forest rather than the primary forest worsening the situation. Thus, the elephant-human conflict might have lead to the decline of the elephant population in the state. Keywords: Wild life; trend; increase; decrease. 1. INTRODUCTION Nagaland is situated between 25°10' - 27°01' N and 93°17' - 95°15' E in the northeast region of India with a geographical area of 16, 579, 00 km2. The State consists of mountain ranges running from the northeast to the southwest, which is the northern extension of the Arakan Yoma ranges of Myanmar.

Within this limitation, hO'W'ever, tbe datu thrown up by t'he Census constitute, verily, a mine of information which enter into plans and programmes, debates and writings, affect ing almost a11 walks of the life of the c.ommon Indian. And yet, ,for the common readers, this information a·nd the large number of publications carrying it. remains by and large. a distant, uninteresting. even intimating, corpus.
