In the present study, 142 Online 9 December 2015 species belonging to 51 families and representing seven orders KEYWORDS are added to the fauna of Al-Baha Province, bringing the total Palaearctic; Afrotropical; number of species now recorded from the province to 724. The Eremic; insect species; reported species are assigned to recognized regional zoogeogra- Arabian Peninsula; Tihama; phical regions. JROESCHNE,RD SMITHSONIAN CONTRIBUTIONS TO ZOOLOGY • NUMBER 407 SERIES PUBLICATIONS OF THE SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION Emphasis upon publication as a means of "diffusing knowledge" was expressed by the first Secretary of the Smithsonian. In his formal plan for the Institution, Joseph Henry outlined a program that included the following statement: "It is proposed to publish a series of reports, giving an account of the new discoveries in science, and of the changes made from year to year in all branches of knowledge." LYGAEOIDEA La Superfamila Lygaeoidea (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Pentatomomorpha) Es Una De Las Mayores Y Más Diver- Sas, Con Más De 4000 Especies, De Heteroptera
| 421 Resumen LYGAEOIDEA La superfamila Lygaeoidea (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Pentatomomorpha) es una de las mayores y más diver- sas, con más de 4000 especies, de Heteroptera. Los hábitats de las especies del grupo son variados, hay grupos arbóreos, geófilos y laminófilos. La mayoría se alimentan de semillas maduras, aunque las Blissidae y algunas Lygaeidae son succionadoras de savia, los Geocoridae son principalmente depredadoras y las Cle- radini (Rhyparochromidae) se alimentan de sangre de vertebrados. Las ninfas viven en los mismos hábitats que los adultos y se alimentan generalmente de las mismas plantas. Actualmente en los Lygaeoidea se reconocen 15 familias, de las cuales 12 han sido registradas de la región Neotropical y 11 de la Argentina: Berytidae, Blissidae, Colobathristidae, Cymidae, Geocoridae, Lygaeidae, Ninidae, Oxycarenidae, Pachygronthidae, Piesmatidae y Rhyparochromidae. Se presenta una breve historia taxonómica, aspectos filogenéticos y de la clasificación actual de la superfamilia, bibliografía de referencia y una clave para la identificación de las familias de la Argentina. Para cada familia se presenta una diagnosis, principales trabajos, aspectos de la bio- logía y la diversidad a nivel mundial y en la Argentina, así como claves para la determinación de los géneros presentes en el pais. Además, se reseña la importancia agroeconómica del grupo. Se adjunta un listado de las 154 especies citadas de Argentina. E-mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT During the past approximate 25 years 84 Heteroptera species were published for the fi rst time for Austria. Th ese species account for 9.4 % of the 896 Heteroptera species currently known to occur in Austria and means that species were added at a rate of more than 3 per year, including previously overlooked species. Two thirds of the species (68 %) were overlooked for taxonomic reasons or because of their cryptic appearance or biol- ogy; the remaining species (32 %) are considered new arrivals. Excluding single records, 18 species (21 %) are considered established new arrivals. Th is is a rate of 0.72 species establishing per year. Most of these species are generally expanding their distribution and increasing in abundance in Austria and elsewhere in Europe and most species reached Austria probably due to current favourable climatic conditions (14 species), followed by species introduced with ornamental plants or transport (4 species). Th e dominance of arboricolous, phytophagous species with a high degree of host plant specialization cor- roborates previous fi ndings. -

STUDIES ON THE FAUNA OF CURAÇAO AND OTHER CARIBBEAN ISLANDS: No. 159. The Heteroptera of the Netherlands Antilles - X Berytinidae (Stilt Bugs) by J.M. Štusák (Agricultural University of Prague) and R.H. Cobben (Laboratorium voor Entomologie, Landbouwhogeschool,Wageningen) This is further paper a contribution to the knowledge of the Antilles Heteroptera of the Netherlands continuing the series on bugs of this region (COBBEN, 1960a, b; DRAKE & COBBEN, 1960a, b; WYGODZINSKY, 1960; NIESER, 1967, 1969a, b; COBBEN & WYGOD- It is ZINSKY, 1975). based on the material of berytinids collected by the second author while studying the bugs of these islands. The material collected contained a total number of 65 specimens of Berytinidae divided into 3 genera and 3 species: Pronotacantha armata Stusak, from Curaçao; Aknisus multispinus Ashmead, from Bonaire, Aruba and Curaçao; Jalysus reductus Barber, from Saba, St. Eustatius and Curaçao. Pronotacantha armata and Aknisus multispinus had not yet been recorded from the Antilles. Jalysus reductus is already known from the region studied; however, it is recorded here for the first time from the Lesser Antilles. Three additional species are known from the Antilles from the literature: Protacanthus decorus Uhler, Jalysus sobrinus Stil and Jalysus reversus V. Duz. Protacanthus decorus Uhler, 1893, was described from St. Vincent and subsequently recorded from Grenada (UHLER, 1894), Jamaica 64 (as Metacanthus decorus, VAN DUZEE, 1907), and Haiti (STUSAK, 1970); it also occurs in Venezuela, Costa Rica (STUSAK, 1970), Colombia, Texas (HARRIS, 1941) and South Florida (MC ATEE, 1919). Jalysus sobrinus Stal, 1860, is distributed, as far as is known in described Brasil South and Central America. -

Los tipos de distribución encontrados son seis; la predominante es la mediterránea sensu lato (euromediterránea y holomediterránea). Se comparan los datos obtenidos de la Sierra de Gredos, con los aportados en la bibliografía para otras zonas de la Península Ibérica. Chapter 1 Introduction to True Bugs (Heteroptera) of the Neotropics Antônio R. Panizzi and Jocêlia Grazia Abstract True bugs (Heteroptera) are a diverse and complex group of insects, particularly in the neotropics. The fauna ofthese bugs has been investigated through time, but our knowledge of the species living in the Neotropical Region is lirnited. ln this introductory chapter, we give a general view on true bugs c1assification and biogeography, with concise comments on their general characteristics and bioecology of each major taxon that comprise each of the seven infraorders of Heteroptera. 1.1 Introduction The true bugs (Heteroptera) constitute a very interesting widely distributed group of insects, which is greatly diversified in tropical zones. Considered the largest group of insects with incomplete metamorphosis, heteropterans have been studied on both basic and applied aspects worldwide. Along the years, several books have been published on Heteroptera, the majority on specific aspects, such as certain groups (taxa) of particular areas, and others on more general comprehensive issues. Of more broad interest, two books about the latter were published relatively recently. A list of 123 true bug species and subspecies of the families Tingidae (19 species), Nabidae (7 species), Anthocoridae (11 species, 1 subspecies), Aradidae (1 species), Lygaeidae s. l. (77 species, 1 subspecies), Piesmatidae (1 species), and Berytidae (4 species) from Khuzestan and the adjacent provinces in southern Iran is published. Eight species are recorded from Iran for the fi rst time: Tingidae: Agramma confusum (Puton, 1879), Agramma subnotatum Péricart, 1981, Tingis geniculata (Fieber, 1844); Aradidae: Aradus fl avicornis Dalman, 1827; Lygaei- dae s. l.: Artheneis turangae Kerzhner, 1997, Auchenodes conspersus (Jakovlev, 1885), Holcocranum diminutum diminutum Horváth, 1898, and Piesmatidae: Parapiesma rotundatum (Horváth, 1906). One poorly known species, Geocoris montandoniellus Kiritshenko, 1915, is redescribed and compared with the most similar species. Key words. The previous two parts dealing with infraorders Nepomorpha, Gerromorpha, Leptopodomorpha and the family Miridae of Cimicomorpha were published by LINNAVUORI (2009, 2010). In this paper I contribute to the knowledge of the Iranian fauna by eight new distributional records. The Khuzestan province (Fig.
