Student Education Service Educational Engagement Higher Education Access, Rewarding, Transforming (HEART) Partnership HEART Skills Project Manager Part time, 0.8 fte, fixed term until October 2017 (Maternity cover) Secondment opportunities will be considered The University of Leeds is the managing partner for the Higher Education Access, Rewarding, Transforming (HEART) partnership. The partnership comprises twelve higher education providers in West Yorkshire, namely Bradford College, University of Bradford, Calderdale College, University of Huddersfield, Kirklees College, Leeds Beckett University, Leeds City College, Leeds College of Art, Leeds College of Building, University of Leeds, Leeds Trinity University and Wakefield College. HEART aims to support the ongoing development of partnership approaches to both outreach/widening participation in higher education and engaging successfully with employers. This is an exciting opportunity for you to join the partnership following our successful application for additional project funding from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) as part of the National Network for Collaborative Outreach (NNCO). HEART is the West Yorkshire Single Point of Contact as part of the NNCO and is working, via our partners, to remove gaps and reduce duplication of provision of outreach activity to schools. You will be a key and active member of multiple communities including HEART, our partners, schools, local authorities and the Leeds City Region Local Enterprise Partnership. With an undergraduate degree or relevant work experience you will also have excellent interpersonal, communication, organisational skills and experience of managing complex projects. Experience of working with local authorities, the LEP and Universities/Colleges will be advantageous. University Grade 7 (£32,004 - £38,183 p.a. pro - rata) Informal enquiries may be made to Katie Peyton-Lister k.peyton- [email protected] Interviews are expected to take place during the week of 14 November 2016 Ref: SESAR1057 Job Description Responsible to: Head of Educational Engagement Reports to: HEART Partnership Manager Main duties and responsibilities To deliver outcomes integral and complementary to increasing the demand for higher level skills in the region, working with similar organisations in neighbouring regions. Provide overall project management including: o Ongoing maintenance and development of activities to support the aims of the role including liaison with HEART partners and securing support required from stakeholders. o Identifying possible risks and proposing solutions. o Securing cooperation of the relevant contact in the five West Yorkshire Local Authorities and the relevant LEP representative in supporting higher level skills aims and outcomes. o Consultation/liaison/cooperation with stakeholders including the local authorities, LEP, HEART partners, HEFCE and similar neighbouring organisations. o Dissemination of learning and outcomes with relevant stakeholders and partners. Understand the needs of key partners and adapt approaches to best support those needs, complement and work together (rather than duplicate) wherever possible. Report outcomes and progress to the HEART Partnership, via the Board and Planning groups. Where possible seek out opportunities for securing additional funding to support the wider work of HEART. Monitoring, evaluating and reporting outcomes and impact Produce timely and appropriate reports for the HEART Board, HEART Manager, HEFCE and other relevant parties, with updates on progress and spending. Dissemination and enhancing reputation/brand Plan and deliver information and dissemination events for local/regional audiences. To play a role in enhancing HEART’s reputation with partners and stakeholders (e.g. via networking, supporting improved information, resources and communication). Higher level skills agenda Bring together interested parties to support activity around the higher level skills agenda, e.g. around higher and degree apprenticeships. Work across multiple partners to support bids for additional funding in relation to the higher level skills agenda, e.g. HEFCE’s Degree Apprenticeship Development Fund Work with the HEART SPoC to promote understanding of activity pertaining to the higher level skills agenda Other To ensure a level of professional expertise and understanding is maintained which may also include elements of marketing and data protection To demonstrate a commitment to personal and professional development. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage internal and external relationships, and develop partnerships, to meet objectives. Proactive and able to assume responsibility – taking appropriate action to identify and mitigate against risks as required. Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to tailor communication relevant to the audience and address issues in a succinct manner. Well-developed administrative and organisational skills with excellent attention to detail and ability to prioritise and deliver against deadlines. IT literacy including the Microsoft Office suite and database usage. Ability to continuously review and enhance quality standards of personal and team outputs. Ability to research and analyse information, summarise key findings and make recommendations based on this. Capacity to be flexible and adaptable to a changing external environment. Knowledge, expertise and qualifications Project management skills and experience, ideally holding a project management qualification and with a track record of successful project delivery. Experience of delivering successful large-scale events across multiple partners. An undergraduate degree/relevant professional experience. Special requirements Willingness to work flexibly, including occasional evening/weekend work as required, and the ability to travel throughout West Yorkshire when attending meetings and events. Desirable Knowledge of the widening participation and outreach agendas. Knowledge and experience of working with Local Authorities and/or Local Enterprise Partnerships, and knowledge of the Leeds City Region Local Enterprise Partnership existing skills plan. Understanding of the delivery of careers advice.
