CANDIDATE BRIEF Care to Go Higher Delivery Officer, Go Higher West Yorkshire Salary: Grade 5 (£23,067 – £26,715 p.a.) Reference: SESAR1239 Fixed- term until 31 July 2021 due to external funding. We will consider job share and flexible working arrangements Care to Go Higher Delivery Officer Go Higher West Yorkshire Are you passionate about making a difference and improving access to higher education? Can you work on your own initiative and take a proactive approach to organising and delivering events and activities? Are you highly organised, and able to work collaboratively across a range of partners to coordinate activity, achieve results and meet targets? Go Higher West Yorkshire (GHWY) is a partnership representing 13 HE providers: Bradford College, the University of Bradford, Calderdale College, the University of Huddersfield, Kirklees College, Leeds Conservatoire, the University of Leeds, Leeds Arts University, Leeds Beckett University, Leeds College of Building, Leeds City College, Leeds Trinity University and Wakefield College. The team is based at the University of Leeds. The partnership seeks to reduce in equalities in higher education access, success and progression. The purpose of the role is to support, coordinate and deliver some of GHWY’s widening participation activity aimed at care-experienced young people and their key influencers. You will be confident working in partnership with senior and strategic stakeholders from a range of external organisations, while acting on your own initiative to ensure quality activities are delivered and strategic targets are met. What does the role entail? As a Care to Go Higher Delivery Officer, your main duties will include: Maintaining and adhering to the relevant work stream sections of the partnership’s annual delivery plan; Working with HE providers to deliver the annual refresh of the partnership’s collaborative Care Leaver Covenant; To support the GHWY Collaborative Outreach Officer to work in partnership with HE providers, Local Authorities and other relevant stakeholders to support organise and deliver sustained outreach in the interests of care-experienced children and young people (C&YP). This includes: o A programme of collaborative HE outreach activity directly aimed at care-experienced C&YP – either online or in-person; o A bespoke CPD programme equipping key influencers of care experienced C&YP to support progression to HE; o A professional mentoring programme for care-experienced young people currently in higher education; o Comms campaigns centred around key campaign weeks and events such as National Care Leavers’ Week and Care Day; o Resources to support community engagement with the Care Leaver Covenant; o Planning and hosting networking opportunities for HE providers and local authorities to share and develop good practice; Supporting the Collaborative Outreach Officer in delivering research and evaluation for all activity; Supporting maintenance of relevant sections of the website. These duties provide a framework for the role and should not be regarded as a definitive list. Other reasonable duties may be required consistent with the grade of the post. What will you bring to the role? As a Care to Go Higher Delivery Officer, you will have: An understanding of the experiences and needs of care-experienced C&YP, particularly the barriers they may face in accessing and succeeding in higher education; Highly organised with excellent attention to detail; Experience of partnership working, with the ability to build a rapport; Excellent written communication skills, with experience of producing a range of written reports and resources aimed at a variety of audiences; Experienced at organising and successfully delivering large-scale events, including consideration of risk assessment, safeguarding as well as event logistics; Excellent presentation and delivery skills with the ability to think on your feet, including delivery to a wide range of audiences; this may involve some delivery of training materials; An understanding of the requirements for successful delivery of mentoring programmes; Ability to use social media and web to deliver communications campaigns; Experience of evaluating your work and demonstrating continuous improvement in practice.
