Hit Rewind’ Came Together . APRIL 2020 Turning back the years... Reconsiderations Reflections Reviews Editor’s Note “Nostalgia and brighter days to come…” “When I think back to our first ever 2020 TERM meeting, there were so many amazing ideas brought forward on how to make the 12th addition one to remember. As a team, we felt we needed to choose the idea that had impacted the most people but at the same time, giving us a broad concept to work with. This is when ‘Hit Rewind’ came together. I don’t think that 2020 could have attempted to steal the spotlight from our theme anymore than it has done. However, I think that our choice to look back at the 2010s as one of the most unforgettable and memorable decades yet, maybe regarded as perfect timing! So, when reading this year’s addition, I hope it brings you some nostalgia of happier days and that it reminds us all that even with everything going on around the world right now, the next decade will bring brighter days, as well as ten more years of memories to look back on...” Millie Evans — Editor 2020 1 HIT REWIND Instagram: @termmagazine Twitter: @TermMagazine C O N T E N T S 4 2010-20 THE KEY MOMENTS 6 Would 7 Year Old Me Be Proud? 8 Dear Humans... 10 Ever Evolving Boy Bands 12 Met Gala Through The Years 14 #MeTooMovement 16 Our Week Of Vegan-AKA HELL 18 Songs That Shaped The Decade 20 Retro Revival 24 An LGBTQ+ Decade 26 The Sporting Events Of The Decade 28 ‘Real’ity T.V 32 YouTube Rewind 34 Deceased Icons 35 ‘Focuses on money First, people second’ 36 Why. All Rights Reserved. ©2021 SAGE Publishing, Inc. All Rights Reserved. Can it adapt to changing times? Executive Summary The global fashion business is going through a period of intense change and competition, with disruption coming in many colors: global online marketplaces, slower growth, more startups and consumers who now seem bored by what once excited them. Many U.S. shoppers have grown tired of buying Prada and Chanel suits and prefer to spend their money on experiences rather than clothes. Questions about fashion companies’ labor and environmental practices are leading to new policies, although some critics remain unconvinced. Fashion still relies on creativity, innovation and consumer attention, some of which comes from technology and some from celebrities. Here are some key takeaways: High-fashion brands must now compete with “fast fashion,” apparel sold on eBay and vintage sites. Risk factors for fashion companies include China’s growth slowdown, reduced global trade, Brexit, terrorist attacks and erratic commodity prices. Plus-size women are a growing segment of the market, yet critics say designers are ignoring them. Overview José Neves launched Farfetch during the global economic crisis of 2008, drawing more on his background in IT and software than a love of fashion. His idea: Allow small designers and fashion shops to sell their wares worldwide on a single online marketplace. The site will “fetch” fashion from far-off places.
