How we prepared the Plan

The development of a new Community Plan commenced with a community meeting on September 13 th 2012 and a mail out survey to local residents.

The meeting was attended by local residents, included presentations from co-ordinators and Golden Plains Community Planning Team Leader Damian Waight and was facilitated by AOS Christine Wallis and Stephen Axford. The presentations led to discussion of the achievements from the 2010-2012 Community Plan, what has changed in the town since it was produced, the ideas within the previous plan to be carried forward that have not yet been achieved, and new ideas.

In the workshop an initial organisation for the new Plan compiled the ideas into sections that connect them and into short and long term time frames; • Social activities, events, arts, youth, heritage • Groups and organisation; sports and recreation • Economic; business and services development, tourism • Facilities and infrastructure • Roads and traffic • Landscape and environment • Heritage and Tourism

The co-ordinators conducted interviews with over 70 local residents to survey the priorities for working on the actions in the new Plan. The survey was conducted in a variety of locations to cover a diversity of views; the monthly market, main shops, Recreation Centre, the Well user groups. The results of the survey are summarised in the table ‘Priorities for Action’.
