The soundtrack of Guitar Hero Live spans across a diverse selection of genres, the developers recognizing that challenging guitar tracks are not strictly limited to rock music. There is no backwards compatibility with songs or controllers from previous editions of the franchise; Jackson justified the decision, explaining that Guitar Hero Live was a "completely new game" that existing content would not work with due to the change in core gameplay. This is the main setlist that appears on-disc. These songs can be played in Guitar Hero Live's Career Mode and completing each gig unlocks the completed songs in Quickplay. While songs in the main setlist of Guitar Hero Live play on a live convert RollingStone guitar classics the background, songs in GHTV are played with their music videos in the background. Because of this, songs will be playing in their music video version rather than their original studio version, if the song was altered for the music video. Every week, the set of three Premium Shows is changed and the Premium songs are added in the music catalog when the Premium Show ends.
