Arak and Gwydion (Some Thoughts on the Shadow Elves' History) By R. Sweeney Gwydion isn't a 'real' demon, but rather a creature of great power from the plane of shadow. Gwydion's evil was his enslavement of the ShadowElves. His torment is his betrayal by Arak. Unlike Vecna, he was not on the prime and could only be 'trapped' because he was trying to follow the Shadow Elves into RL. (Presumably to kill them or re-enslave them). I wonder what Arak was thinking, however. Would there be anyplace he could take the Shadow elves into exile where Gwydion could not follow? Did he think he could hide from such a powerful creature? Gwydion must have had an enemy. A sibling perhaps. The Shadow Elves must have acted as some sort of armed forces for him. Arak must have believed that if Gwydion suddenly found himself without his Slaves, he would have been destroyed by his rivals. However, there other.. less satisfying, perhaps, ways of re-writing ShadowElf history. Gwydion, the shadow-being, falls 'in love' with an elf from some other world. They mate, bear children. Woman dies, Gwydion takes his children and their children as slaves. Millenia pass. Arak was Gwydion's favorite. Perhaps, Gwydion had mated with one of the Shadow elves of unsurpassed beauty and begat Arak. Thus, he set his son above all the other slaves. Arak, however, desired more than to be the head of the slaves. He managed to betray his father to his enemies. Arak had intended patricide. He was going to take away Gwydion's protective armed forces, leaving him vulnerable to attack by his other enemies.

  • DRAGONLANCE! Actually, the Name of the World Is Krynn
Another world, another adventure. Another reality to explore, a thrilling new … library? A library, complete with the faintly musty smell of old tomes. Long tall stacks of books, scrolls, and tablets run the length of the chamber you find yourself in. Seated at a desk near the back of the chamber is a lone figure. He scratches away with quill and ink on a scroll, pausing only to wet his quill in a small inkpot and look into a crystal globe located to his left. “Astinus of Palanthas, Master of the Library of Palanthas and Historian of Krynn. He keeps a record of everything that happens here. Everything of note, at least. Most people think he’s immortal or some kind of god. No one seems to know for certain, though.” No one? Your Benefactor smiles one of those little smiles you’ve become so familiar with. “Well, maybe not no one. Maybe you’ll figure it out and tell me all about it?” Seemingly bored with that train of thought, your Benefactor turns away from you and runs their hands along the stacks. “So here we are: DRAGONLANCE! Actually, the name of the world is Krynn. Dragonlance is the title given to the intellectual property created, ‘created,’ by Margret Weiss and Tracy Hickman. So, if you’d like to take a minute to read up on what this place is about, now’s the time and here’s the place to do it. Or I can just give you the Chain’s Notes. Get it? Chain’s Notes? It’s like Cliff’s Notes, but … never mind.” “In the beginning was The High God and from the Beyond he called forth Paladine, Gilean and Takhisis, good, neutral and evil gods respectively.

  • THE LOST CHRONICLES Volume Two
THE LOST CHRONICLES VOLUME TWO Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman PROLOGUE ver three hundred years had passed since he had last heard the sound of a human voice. Or rather, since he last heard a human speak. He had heard screams since then; screams from those who had come to Dargaard Keep to confront him, screams that ended in gurgling gasps as they choked on their own blood. Lord Soth had no patience with such fools. He had no patience with those who came seeking his storied treasure. He had no patience with those who come on gallant quests to rid the world of his evil, for he knew the truth (who better than one who had once ridden on his own knightly quests?). He knew the knights were self-serving, self-seeking, interested only in glory, in hearing their names spouted by the bards. He saw through the shining armor to the spots of dark- ness that stained black the white purity of their souls. Their courage leaked through those spots when he confronted them, oozed out of them, and they clattered to their knees, trembling in their shining armor, and begged for mercy. Lord Soth had none to give. 7 DRAGONLANCE The Lost Chronicles Who had shown him mercy? Who had heard his cries? Who heard them now? The gods had returned, but he was too proud to beg Paladine’s forgiveness. Lord Soth did not believe forgiveness would be granted, and deep within, the death knight did not think it should be granted. He sat upon his throne inside the great hall of his ruined keep listening, night after endless night, to the spirits of the accursed elf women who were doomed to sing as he was doomed to hear the ballad of his crimes.

620_86079_001_Lord SothRP.qxd 1/9/04 10:42 AM Page iii ® WARRIORS Volume Six Lord Soth Edo van Belkom ™ 620_86079_001_Lord SothRP.qxd 1/9/04 10:42 AM Page 1 Dear Astinus, I know it has been your intention for many years to pen a vol- ume chronicling the spectacular rise and fall of Lord Loren Soth of Dargaard Keep. Understandably, work on the literally thou- sands upon thousands of other volumes in your wondrous library has always kept you from this important task. That is why I accepted this assignment with both eagerness and trepidation. While I was anxious to show you that your con- fidence in my abilities was well-founded, I was also unsure about those same abilities and concerned that they might not be up to the challenge of recording a life story so tangled and mys- terious as that of Lord Soth’s. The history of the Lord of Dargaard Keep is a fascinating one, full of as much honor, devotion to duty, love, knightly law and discipline, as cruelty, jealousy, greed, falsehood, unbridled lust, infidelity and murder. Putting it to paper was not an easy task. For despite how well his exploits are known to the people of Krynn, the details of each are as varied as the number of people who are familiar enough to speak of them. Before this volume was completed, the life story of Lord Soth— also known to many by such names as Knight of the Black Rose, the Death Knight, or the Death Lord—had been a mixture of leg- end, fable, myth, spoken histories and long-lost tales.

  • MSD's Campaign General Notes PC Description Short Summary of The
Name of the campaign: MSD’s Campaign General notes Official MSD-Campaign Cheat Sheet Hello to all, friends, strangers and enemies alike. My name is the MadStepDad and this is my world. I’ve been DMing my current Ravenloft campaign for about 18 months now, and it shows no signs of letting up (that’s bad for the MSD-haters, great for ME). We began in the summer of 2002 with three player characters, and this was the first time I EVER ran a 3E campaign. I’m a former 2E thoroughbred. Since that time, I’ve been posting (bragging) about our campaign exploits for the entire world to see. Through the joys of the Internet I’ve managed to make some great friends as well as some vile enemies. And to my friends I propose a toast. (holds aloft a shot glass of Caramel Apple) This is for my friends and allies. Your kind words, illuminating ideas and constructive criticisms have inspired me to new heights. I cherish the interaction I have with each and every one of you, and I hope I can continue to serve these Phat Platters for as long as you’ll accept them. Your posts are motivation enough for me to continue. It ain’t about the $$$, y’all! It’s about the love! But check the irony of the situation; your boy MSD is all about the Love. Yet still I seem to generate so much Hate and Jealousy. Guess that’s the name of the Game though, right? Peace to all of you, and much love.
