  • Discover Lisbon with Our Guide!
The 7th Conference of European Survey Research Association welcomes you to the fashionable city of Lisbon! Lisbon, the most westerly capital in mainland Europe, is one of the few cities in the world to offer a unique natural landscape. It’s for sure one of the most impressively located, with a series of hills facing the Tejo estuary, one of the sunniest and probably one of the least expensive cities to discover. Being a city built on hills, from the various belvederes, installed in the highest points, can enjoy breathtaking views. We highlight the castle of S. Jorge, where we reach the cacilheiros in their crossing to the south bank, the 25th April bridge, Rossio, Carmo convent, Bairro Alto, Eduardo VII park, among other points of the city. Alongside the old city, with a very rich heritage, Lisbon is also a modern city that has been renewed in new cultural and leisure proposals. In this document you can find out more about the places you cannot miss in this city – excursions, restaurants and bars, among others. Working Paper # 602 The Effects of Cultural Heritage on Residential Property Values: 2016 Evidence from Lisbon, Portugal Sofia F. Franco Jacob L. Macdonald The Effects of Cultural Heritage on Residential Property Values: Evidence from Lisbon, Portugal Sofia F. Franco* Jacob L. Macdonald* Nova School of Business and Economics Nova School of Business and Economics Universidade Nova de Lisboa Universidade Nova de Lisboa Portugal Portugal April 30th, 2016 Abstract This paper examines the impact of historic amenities on residential housing prices in the city of Lisbon, Portugal. Our study is directed towards identifying the spatial variation of amenity values for churches, palaces, lithic (stone) architecture and other historic amenities via the housing market, making use of both global and local spatial hedonic models. Our empirical evidence reveals that different types of historic and landmark amenities provide different housing premiums. While having a local non-landmark church within 100 meters increases housing prices by approximately 4.2%, higher concentrations of non-landmark churches within 1000 meters yield negative effects in the order of 0.1% of prices with landmark churches having a greater negative impact around 3.4%. In contrast, higher concentration of both landmark and non-landmark lithic structures positively influence housing prices in the order of 2.9% and 0.7% respectively. Global estimates indicate a negative effect of protected zones, however this significance is lost when accounting for heterogeneity within these areas. We see that the designation of historic zones may counteract negative effects on property values of nearby neglected buildings in historic neighborhoods by setting additional regulations ensuring that dilapidated buildings do not damage the city’s beauty or erode its historic heritage.

  • The Conference
December 15, 2012 The third conference of the International Network of Business and Management Journals (INBAM) will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, from June 17 to 19, 2013. The Technical University of Lisbon (UTL) will host 18 editors-in-chief from around the world, thus there will be a total of 18 tracks – one for each journal. INBAM is looking forward to receiving submissions. Please ensure that your paper is appropriate to the journal to which you are submitting. The Conference The 3rd INBAM Conference will comprise a total of 18 tracks, one for each journal. Each journal editor will open the session with an outline of how to present works for publication in his/her journal. Authors will then go on to present the papers chosen for each session. Full papers covering diverse themes and methodological approaches are welcome. Papers should demonstrate high research quality and reflect the research focus favored by the Conference journals. One of the aims of the Conference is to select papers, depending on the characteristics of the journal and the quality of the papers, which will constitute a special issue of each of the SSCI journals involved in the 18 tracks. Each of the 18 tracks (and consequently the special issues) will have coordinators who will be the guest editors of the special issue. Once the Conference has concluded, the guest editors (as well as the editor- in-chief of the journal) for each track will decide which papers are to be recommended for inclusion in the special issues/section of the corresponding publications.

  • Discovering Lisbon
Discovering Lisbon ABOUT Photo: Turismo de Portugal Discovering Lisbon Lisbon is a city that makes you want to go exploring, to discover whatever might appear in every neighbourhood, on every street. It’s a safe and friendly city, relatively small but with so much to see. It’s an ideal place to spend a few days or as a starting point for touring the country. It’s old. It’s modern. It is, without doubt, always surprising. You can choose a topic or a theme to explore it. The range is wide: Roman Lisbon, Manueline, Baroque or Romantic Lisbon, literary Lisbon, the Lisbon of Bohemian nightlife, the city of Fado. And there are also very different ways of exploring: by foot, by tram, by segway, by hop-on-hop-off bus, in a tuk tuk, seen from the river on a boat trip or from the other side, after crossing the Tagus on a cacilheiro ferry... the suggestions are endless. However, there are some essential sites that simply cannot be missed, and are always on the list. Like the historic Alfama and Castelo districts, with one of the most fabulous views over the city and the river. You must go from downtown towards Belém, the neighbourhood of the Discoveries, with the Belém Tower and the Jerónimos Monastery, both World Heritage. But also with the original Coach Museum and the modern Belém Cultural Centre. Oh, and don’t forget to taste the delicious pastéis de nata (custard tarts)! Leave Chiado and Bairro Alto for the late afternoon and the evening. These are guaranteed nightlife spots, as is Cais do Sodré, nearer the river.
