In 250 years, Saarland has changed its nationality eight times. We have switched between French and German nationality, and were also an independent nation. This has shaped our people‘s mentality and made them very accepting of other cultures.

In 1952, Saarland participated in the Olympic Summer Games in Helsinki as a sovereign state represented by 36 athletes.
