House Keywords: What and Where House Keywords: What and Where House Axis Keywords he houses represent areas of life experience. In the grammar of astrology, they are the prepositions (that 1st vs. 7th T tell you where) and the prepositional phrases (that tell Me vs. You you with what). It’s essential that you follow the format of the blueprint 2nd vs. 8th sentences exactly when working with houses. Often, the blueprint Mine vs. Yours sentences will feel a little awkward because the grammar and syntax in astrology doesn’t translate directly to the grammar and syntax 3rd vs. 9th in English. Do not alter the blueprint sentences in any way! Near vs. Far You can adjust the phrasing when you build the chair from the blueprint, but if you alter the phrasing of the blueprint sentence 4th vs. 10th you will not maintain a clear understanding of exactly how the Private vs. Public houses relate to the planets. The difference between the house a planet occupies (IN) and 5th vs. 11th the houses a planet rules (WITH) is critical. The house keywords Self-expression vs. Group expression are divided into two categories to make the blueprint sentences easier to complete. 6th vs. 12th Physical vs. Spiritual WHERE Keywords The where keywords define specific locations and areas of life associated with the particular house. These are the keywords you will choose from when describing a planet IN a house. Additional WHAT Keywords Many houses also include a list of additional what keywords that are also associated with the houses. Grammatically, these keywords don’t fit well to describe where the energy of a planet is encountered. However, these keywords can be used — in addition to the where keywords —when exploring the houses a planet rules. You can choose these keywords anytime you’re addressing a WITH phrase in a blueprint sentence. www.TheRealAstrology.com ©2013 Kevin B. Burk Page 50 The Real Astrology Academy Online Natal Astrology Class Guidelines for Adding Houses to Blueprint Sentences We’ll begin working with houses by considering only the house occupied by a planet. The house a planet occupies tells you where you encounter the energies and expression of that particular planet. All this requires is adding an extra sentence to the end of any blueprint: He/she encounters these needs IN [house where keywords] ([planet] in [house]). Blueprint Sentence Template for The Sun in ([HOUSE]) He/she wants to be a hero (Sun) by being [high-consciousness keyword], [high-consciousness keyword], and [high-consciousness keyword] ([sign]), but sometimes appears to be [low-consciousness keyword], [low-consciousness keyword], and [low-consciousness keyword] ([sign]). He/she encounters these needs particularly IN [house where keywords] (Sun in [house]). Example: The Sun in Aries in the 2nd House He wants to be a hero (Sun) by being innovating (Cardinal), passionate (Fire), and audacious (Aries), but sometimes appears to be aggressive (Aries), impulsive (Aries), and competitive (Cardinal/Aries). He/she encounters these needs particularly IN his money, finances, and personal resources (Sun in 2nd House). ©2013 Kevin B. • A Mini-Course in Astrology Deciphering Your Horoscope Wheel
A Mini-Course in Astrology If you want to know more about astrology, here is a brief outline of how horoscopes work, concise meanings of each part of the horoscope and, scattered throughout, tips on how to put these parts together. Deciphering Your Horoscope Wheel The horoscope wheel is a complete, accurately calculated chart such as a professional astrologer would draw up. This wheel is actually a diagram showing how the planets and signs were arranged around you at the moment of your birth. Think of yourself, just being born, as being at the center. The two horizontal spokes are the horizon of the place where you were born. Above this line are the planets that were up in the sky. Below it are the planets that were hidden below the horizon. The sky is shown as if you were facing south. As the Earth turns on its axis each day, the Sun would rise to your left in the east, culminate or reach its highest point around noon, set to your right, and anticulminate or reach its lowest point about midnight before rising the next day. Were you born during the day or at night? If you look at your own horoscope wheel, you should see your Sun (q) either above or below the horizon, reflecting the time of day when you were born. The diagram above shows approximately where the Sun would be at various times during a 24-hour period. The planets, too, make this entire trip clockwise around the horoscope wheel each day, but each rises and sets at a different time.

Sydney Astrology School ASTROLOGY LEVEL 1 - WEEK 1 1) THE BUILDING BLOCKS There are 3 major components that make up the foundation of ASTROLOGY They are the PLANETS, SIGNS and HOUSES a) The PLANETS The SUN is a star and the MOON is the earth’s satellite but as far as Astrology is concerned they are called ‘planets’ and band together with another 8 that orbit the Sun. These 10 Planets are: Sun N Moon M Mercury O Venus P Mars Q Jupiter R Saturn S Uranus T Neptune U Pluto V b) THE SIGNS The signs are twelve 30 degree areas of space that form an immovable circular band around the earth. (12 x 30 degrees = 360 degrees) They occur in an astrological order that always remains the same. The astrological order begins with Aries and ends with Pisces as follows: Aries A Taurus B Gemini C Cancer D Leo E Virgo F Libra G Scorpio H Sagittarius I Capricorn J Aquarius K Pisces L c) THE HOUSES The HOUSES are sections of the sky as seen from the earth’s perspective. There are 12 HOUSES simply named the 1st HOUSE to the 12th HOUSE 1 Sydney Astrology School The houses are subject to a specific location on earth and are aligned with the HORIZON and the MERIDAN (the highest and lowest points). Due to this fact the houses can vary in their size, but there will always be 12. It is important to note that the signs always occupy exactly 30 degrees of space, while the houses will occupy a different number of degrees depending on the birth location.

  • The Archaeology of the Astrological Houses - Brian Clark
Student Notes The Archaeology of the Astrological Houses - Brian Clark Space, Place, Gods & Houses The horoscope orientates us to the space that surrounds us through its twelve divisions we call the houses, once known as places. The allotment of the houses is a form of spatial analysis that helps us to conceptualize personal places in the world that enfolds us. Houses give meaning to the spaces we inhabit; they are like ecosystem of the Self, outlining the physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual topography of our surroundings and atmosphere. When houses are considered astrologically, a map is conceived for the spaces that we occupy - a personal atlas that helps orientate ourselves to our natural environment. Like any spatial analysis the horoscope respects the enduring reverence for the four fixed directions which, in the earliest of times, were always essential for astrological interpretations. Astrologically these four directions have developed into the four angles of the horoscope: the rising place (The Ascendant), the place of culmination (the Midheaven), the setting place (The Descendant) and the lower sky (the IC). When the Ascendant was brought into astrological practice, it marked the rising place where the stars and planets first appeared. It also became the seminal reference point from which to establish other places in the horoscope. The eastern horizon, as a metaphor for the place where light first appears, grows into the symbol for the emergence of life, vitality, what is seen, appearance, how light is projected out. As an image of appearance and first contact with life, it became associated with disposition and personality.

  • Jung on Astrology
Jung on Astrology Jung on Astrology brings together C. G. Jung’s thoughts on astrology in a single volume for the fi rst time, signifi cantly adding to our understanding of his work. Jung’s Collected Works , seminars, and letters contain numerous discussions of this ancient divinatory system, and Jung himself used astrological horoscopes as a diagnostic tool in his analytic practice. Understood in terms of his own psychology as a symbolic representation of the archetypes of the collective unconscious, Jung found in astrology a wealth of spiritual and psychological meaning and suggested it represents the “sum of all the psychological knowledge of antiquity.” The selections and editorial introductions by Safron Rossi and Keiron Le Grice address topics that were of critical importance to Jung – such as the archetypal symbolism in astrology, the precession of the equinoxes and astrological ages, astrology as a form of synchronicity and acausal correspondence, the qualitative nature of time, and the experience of astrological fate – allowing readers to assess astrology’s place within the larger corpus of Jung’s work and its value as a source of symbolic meaning for our time. The book will be of great interest to analytical psychologists, Jungian psy- chotherapists, and academics and students of depth psychology and Jungian and post-Jungian studies, as well as to astrologers and therapists of other orientations, especially transpersonal. Safron Rossi, PhD, is a Professor of mythology and depth psychology in the Jungian and Archetypal Studies specialization at Pacifi ca Graduate Institute, Cali- fornia. For many years she was curator of the Joseph Campbell and James Hillman manuscript collections.

From ancient times up to the seventeenth century Electional Astrology in common with all the other branches of the subject received a good deal of attention, and it is a matter for surprise that it has not shared in the present revival of interest in Astrology, considering the extreme popularity and usefulness of the matters with which it deals.

  • Horary Astrology the Heart of the Question
Horary Astrology The Heart of the question Copyright Clélia Romano, DMA Evidence point out to the fact that Horary Astrology only began to be practiced in the West some centuries after Natal astrology: perhaps in the 4th century. Many scholars believe that Horary is as old as Natal astrology based on some evidences supported especially by book 5 of Dorotheus of Sidon (75 AC), Carmem Astrologicum or Pentatheuc, one of the first works on Hellenistic astrology which survived almost preserved since our days. But if we think that Dorotheus wrote in Greek, was translated into Pahlavi (Persian) and from the Pahlavi into Arabic and then into English, and besides this Dorotheus wrote this work in verses, a fact that is a limitation to didactic transmission, we realize that many things must have been corrupted on the road. Although there are apparent indications of the use of Electional astrology in Dorotheus´ book, that were cited at length by the astrologer Hephaiste of Thebes, in the fifth century, intense revisions made in the nineties pointed out to several interpolations especially in the fifth book of the Pentateuch, which overthrew the hypothesis that Dorotheus was referring to Horary astrology. It happens that authors of the 8th and 9th century, as Sahal and Masha´allah transformed the texts of Electional astrology into Horary astrology. Quite interesting is the fact that, according to the vast article by Chris Brenani, Pingree, who translated the Pentateuch in 1976 and also Hephaiste, also translated from the Sanskrit, at the same time, the important work called Indian Yavanajātaka or “the Greeks Horoscope” It is an astrological text that was written in Sanskrit verse, in 269/270 AD and originally translated from Greek and written by some Yavaneśvara or "Lord of the Greeks" in DC 149/150.

  • Robert Zoller's Medieval Astrology
GVIDONIS BONATI ON THE ARABIC PARTS translated from the original Latin text by: b Robert Zoller. www.new-library.com/zoller © Copyright 2000 New Library Limited All rights reserved BONATTI ON THE ARABIC PARTS Copyright © 1980, revised 2000 by Robert Zoller All Rights Reserved INTRODUCTION TO TRANSLATION The following is an extract of the work of Guido Bonatti translated from Latin into English from Guidonis Bonati Forliviensis Mathematici de Astronomia Tractatus X universum quod iudiciariam rationem nativitatum, aeris tempestatum attinet, comprehendentes. Adiectus est Cl. Ptolemaei liber Fructus, cum utilissimis Georgii Trapezuntii Published in 1550, Basel. The translation is of the second part of Bonatti’s treatment of Revolutions of the Year of the World, which is the fourth part of the work and covers columns 626 – 664. The work seems to have been written for delivery as a series of lecturers. This gives it a rather disjointed continuum and requires careful reading. Special attention should be given to the beginning where Bonatti intermeshes Albumassar’s view with his own. This is again done with Alchabitius at the end. Minimal editing and standardising of the English has been undertaken so as to allow the thinking and practice of the medieval astrologer to shine through the translation. The work examines the ancient doctrine of Arabic parts. For a proper understanding of them the reader should have a working knowledge of natal chart erection and interpretation as well as a basic knowledge of horary and electional astrology. Greater detail on these areas and a fuller understanding of the parts as well as other important aspects such as profections and the revolutions of the nativities is to be found in the [Foundation Course on Medieval Astrology] (for the beginner) and the [Diploma Course on Medieval Astrology] as well as in other materials found on this website [Tools and Techniques].
