Eddy, Management and Institute for Leadership and Development Project By: Paris R. Archung Title: “Value-Based Payment in Health Care Applied to Community Based Organizations” Abstract: New York State is going through a transition from a pay-for-performance health payer system to a pay-forvalue system. The change to Value-Based Payments (VBP) is a method to decrease costs and increase quality and performance in the healthcare field. The major goals for VBP is to keep people healthy and out of the emergency rooms. The Institute for Leadership and Development at Siena College has teamed up with Albany Med and Better Health for Northeast New York to create teaching seminars for 20 local nonprofit organizations known as CBOs or Community based organizations. These sessions prepare them to make contracts with larger organizations, Physician Groups, or Managed Care Organizations. CBOs play an important role in reaching individuals in the Medicaid population. Their role in the community accounts for social determinants of health by giving food, housing, transportation and more to their community. This contribution would play a role in keeping people health and therefore they are able to take advantage of value-based payments as a source of revenue. In this presentation, we will discuss the structure of the 6 sessions and the importance of CBOs' role for VBP. Biology Course: BIOL-299 – Independent Research in Biology Faculty Supervisor: Thomas Giarla, Biology Department Project By: Matthew P. Dolinar and Margot G. Pavlik Title: “Comparative Phylogeography of Two Rodent Groups in East Africa” Abstract: This project aims to explore the geographic and phylogenetic connections between non-related rodent groups co-occurring in the East Africa. Colomys goslingi (African Wading Rat) and various Tachyoryctes species (root rats) occur around the Albertine Rift Valley, Kenyan Highlands, and Ethiopia, and may exhibit similar patterns of genetic diversification. Our analysis was conducted using genetic samples of two mitochondrial genes to build phylogenetic trees. Similar patterns in the tree and geography could be indicative of past or current geographic barriers in the region that were important for speciation. Project By: Karla M. Perez Title: “Investigating the Connection Between Racial, Ethnic and Gender Diversity in Genetics Research and Alzheimer’s Disease” Abstract: The purpose of this study is to investigate the possible connection between lack of racial, ethnic, and gender diversity in genetics research to Alzheimer’s disease. In the United States, African American and Hispanic individuals, as well as women, are more than likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease in comparison to their white and male counterparts. However, genetic research is primarily made up of white male subjects. This lack of genetic research diversity may have a negative connection to the investigations and treatments to diseases such as Alzheimer’s due to insufficient scientific information on the diverse backgrounds

    Civil War Heritage Day Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands, New York Saturday, September 13, 2008 Tours, Music, Events: 10 am - 5 pm Reception and Parade for President Lincoln! 3:00 pm On February 18, 1861 , Jefferson Davis was sworn in as President of the Confederacy and a celebration was held to mark the establishment of the Confederate States of America. On February 18, 1861 , Abraham Lincoln had been elected President of the United States but had not yet reached Washington. On February 18, 1861 , Abraham Lincoln was in Albany , New York. Albany’s Mayor George Thacher met Lincoln at the train station, and they rode in a carriage to the Capitol. As the carriage proceeded down Broadway and turned right to go up State Street, it passed Stanwix Hall, the current residence of John Wilkes Booth. Undoubtedly, Booth watched with almost all of Albany as the new President went by. Another spectator was Clara Harris, daughter of Senator Ira Harris. Clara and her fiancé Major Henry Rathbone would be reunited with President and Mrs. Lincoln at a later encounter with Booth. On June 7, 1862, in the midst of the war, the Trustees of Albany Rural donated a section named the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Plot. One hundred and forty-nine Civil War Veterans were buried in this plot and at least 600 more were buried in family plots throughout the cemetery. The Grand Army of the Republic Civil War Monument at Albany Rural contains the names of 648 Albany City residents who “ Died in Action.” The bronze plates on the monument were cast from a melted down Civil War cannon.

    The Rhythm of College Life For many students, going to college is filled with ambiguity and doubt. It may be their first time away from home for an extended period. There is powerful tension between their desire for more freedom and autonomy and their need for reassurance and support. Parents, too, have mixed emotions when their children leave home. They often feel a sense of loss accompanied by a sense of freedom. The house seems so quiet. At the same time, the house seems too quiet! Separation Anxiety People are more comfortable with the familiar. Your son or daughter has probably spent several years with the same friends from the same high school. The teachers are familiar, the school campus is familiar, and the town is familiar. College means finding a whole new set of friends, adapting to professors who do not treat them the way their high school teachers did, and navigating a campus where everything is not located in one building. Beginning a new adventure on campus at Tiffin University generates both excitement and anxiety. For students who adapt quickly, any apprehension is quickly overcome. For others, the transition may take a little longer and include some struggle with homesickness. Some students begin to feel anxious several weeks before they even leave home. Others seem OK at first only to find themselves feeling homesick later, perhaps after returning from Christmas break. Most often, though, the first few days or weeks are the most difficult. At TU, we help students feel accepted and secure by creating an environment in which they can function well and meet challenges successfully.

Signature of Candidate Type of Award Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) School School of Psychology Word Count: 80,014 ii ABSTRACT This PhD aimed to understand the constructs of aggression motivation and inhibition among prisoners. The research explored the role of developmental, affect, personality and socio- cognitive factors in aggression, investigating how these factors contributed to motives and inhibitors. This addressed several gaps in our knowledge and understanding of these factors among prisoners. In doing so, it contributed to the proposal of an empirically informed developmental model of aggression motivation and inhibition for prisoners, a model potentially capable of accounting for the theoretical and clinical limitations of existing explanatory models. Study one involved 206 adult men from a medium secure prison. This study specifically examined the role of aggression (using the Aggression Motivation Questionnaire, AMQ; Ireland, 2007) and offence motivation (with the Offence Motivation Questionnaire, OMQ; Gudjonsson & Sigurdsson, 2004) and affect (using the Multidimensional Anger Inventory, MAI; Sigel, 1989). Contrary to predictions, aggression motivation extended beyond the traditional reactive versus proactive distinction, with four core motivations identified. Further challenging the previous dichotomous distinction were findings that affect was related to all motivations and not just reactive aggression.

Its developmental history begins in the 1930s, with Bowlby's growing interest in the link between maternal loss or deprivation and later personality development and with Ainsworth's interest in security theory. Although Bowlby's and Ainsworth's collaboration began in 1950, it entered its most creative phase much later, after Bowlby had formulated an initial blueprint of attachment theory, drawing on ethology, control systems theory, and psychoanalytic thinking, and after Ainsworth had visited Uganda, where she conducted the first empirical study of infant- mother attachment patterns. This article summarizes Bowlby's and Ainsworth's separate and joint contributions to attachment theory but also touches on other theorists and researchers whose work influenced them or was influenced by them. The article then highlights some of the major new fronts along which attachment theory is currently advancing. The article ends with some specula- tions on the future potential of the theory.   • Attachment Theory and Research: Overview with Suggested Applications to Child Custody
    INVITED MONOGRAPH ATTACHMENT THEORY AND RESEARCH: OVERVIEW WITH SUGGESTED APPLICATIONS TO CHILD CUSTODY Mary Main, Erik Hesse, and Siegfried Hesse* The term “attachment” is now in common usage and, as the readers of this Special Issue are aware, is referenced in a rapidly increasing variety of contexts involving child custody (McIntosh & Chisholm, 2008). The aim of this article is to provide judges, lawyers, mediators and mental health professionals involved in custody assessment with an overview of the history of the field of attachment and its principal measures, together with a clear description of what the term “attachment” does—and does not—mean to attachment researchers and theoreticians. Implications for normative separations that do not involve custody- related assessment or the intervention of courts or mediators are also considered. With respect to contested custody cases, we consider the use of standardized attachment measures, and note that sufficient validation for most such measures in clinical contexts is still developing. We describe three measures taken from the research literature (the Strange Situation procedure, the Attachment Q-sort and theAdultAttachment Interview), each subjected to meta-analyses and widely regarded as “gold standard” methods in research.These three methods come closest at this point in time to meeting criteria for providing “scientific evidence” regarding an individual’s current attachment status. Limitations on widespread use include the need for substantiating meta-analyses on father-child relationships, and further validation across a wider spread of children’s ages. We are confident that these restrictions can be solved by new research. In the interim, we argue that increased familiarity with the above measures will assist custody evaluators both in standardizing their assessment procedures and their capacity to gain more from the observational data available to them.
