Hi PBEA members In the past I have enjoyed clinics that Teresa and Jamie have arranged. I especially enjoyed the regular clinics that Michael Larsen came down and gave. It was really my start in riding dressage. It was very helpful having the clinic on a regular basis where Michael got to know me and my horse and we had homework we could practice on until the next time he was down. Recently Desiree and I have been riding with Tammy Yost-Wildin of the Heart T Ranch near Billings MT. We have had a lot of fun riding with Tammy and really made some progress including going to Championships last year and placing our first year!!! It has been wonderful to be back in a consistent program. I recently had the opportunity to ride a lesson with Robyn Fisher who was the judge at the horse trials and is very good. The lesson was right on track with what I have been working on with Tammy. I have continually been impressed with Tammy’s horsemanship skills. Tammy has agreed to put on a clinic in Gillette on Aug 9 & 10. This first clinic Tammy would like to concentrate on flat lessons. She likes to have a real feel for the horse/rider combos before they jump. Most of the issues people have can be fixed with dressage. In future clinics, jumping lessons would be available for previous participants. The cost would be $75 per lesson and Auditing would be free for PBEA members. We need to know by July 29 if we have enough lessons for Tammy to come down. So please contact me; Regina Hays if you are interested in becoming fluent in the language of the horse! I have attached a bio of some of Tammy’s experience mentioning very few of the tittles she and her husband Daniel have won but touching more on her many learning experiences that have influenced her training and riding. 307-680-8790 or email [email protected] . Regina Tammy Yost-Wildin - Bio I grew up in a family of horsemen on a ranch in Montana. My parents both trained horses, and my father is a farrier. As I grew up, I worked on ranches, competed in rodeo, gymkana, western pleasure, polo, jumping, reining, cutting, and team penning. At the age of 13, I took my first Pat Parelli Natural Horsemanship clinic. Throughout high school I trained horses and taught riding lessons. I competed in various events and gained a great deal of experience starting colts. I began showing in dressage and jumping in 1992. In 1993, I spent six months at Pat Parelli’s ranch in Clements, CA studying natural horsemanship. Though I do not believe in his entire program, Pat was instrumental in my education in starting young horses safely and effectively. I still use his techniques to train ground manners on all horses that come through our program. I served as the Montana State FFA President in 1992-93 and covered an extensive speaking tour. In 1994, I won the FFA Western Region Star of Agribusiness Award for my horse training business, becoming the first woman to ever be named a finalist for the National FFA Star in Agribusiness. I then went back to college, majoring in communication. I continued to train horses, teach riding, and tour giving horsemanship clinics from Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado to Louisiana and Canada. I have always taken every opportunity to take lessons and clinics from well-known trainers. Over the years, I have ridden on a regular basis with Pat Parelli, Les Vogt, Paul Hansma, Dr. Robert Miller, Jutta Schott, Lendon Gray, and Jil Walton. I have participated in clinics with countless other wonderful instructors. Throughout all of my training experience, horse psychology and communication have remained my primary interest. I have actively studied equine behavior, and had the privilege to learn foal imprinting from Dr. Robert Miller himself! Dr. Miller developed the internationally recognized foal imprinting technique, and is an expert in equine psychology and behavior. You will find my training program mentioned in his book “The Revolution in Horsemanship”. I first met Dr. Miller at Parelli’s in 1993. His instruction at that point changed my life. In June of 1999, I had the opportunity to co- teach a clinic with Dr. Robert Miller at The Home Ranch in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. It was a wonderful experience, with Dr. Miller and I spending several nights up until the early morning hours talking horses. I wish I had more time to spend learning from Dr. Miller. He is truly an inspiration for me, and I credit him and his work with much of my success as a trainer and instructor. Over the years, I have trained dressage horses for my non-pro clients through fourth level and won several National Championships in Andalusian and Morgan National Championship shows. In 2012, I won the USDF All-Breed National Reserve Championship for WPCSA at Training Level on a 4 year old 1/2 welsh pony I imported from Canada. That pony is now owned by a 10 year old student who has qualified her for Region 5 USDF Championships for 2014! Over the years, our dressage students have placed well at USDF Championships as well as in the All-Breed Award standings. Our students have numerous World show qualifications and Championships in a variety of disciplines. At Heart T Ranch, my husband Daniel and I specialize in the development of Non-pro horses and their riders. Our main focus is teaching riders to be safe and effective riders - no matter their discipline of choice. Riding should be FUN! In order to enjoy the riding experience, riders need to educate themselves in a systematic manner. Dressage is the foundation of our entire program. It provides the framework for an effective training program. From reining to jumping, all our horses have a solid foundation in dressage in order to build the strength and handle necessary to be competitive non-pro horses. As a trainer and instructor, I believe strongly in continuing to learn from other professionals. My background in starting and developing young horses allows me to effectively step back with a horse and correct it's foundation in order that it may move forward with a better understanding of the work. I have combined the skills and knowledge I have gained from many horsemen to become the trainer and instructor I am today. I continue to learn from other professionals - and my students! I use my background in secondary education and communication to develop effective lesson plans and training strategies. My greatest joy is to see students get results with their horses, and become fluent in the language of the horse. .
