NANCY BARDY Harmony Saddle Fitting

Nancy Bardy, saddle fitter, is a life-long equestrian, who got her first pony (Bronco) at age five, a gift from her father. She grew up riding anything she could, successfully riding, showing and training everything from gaited horses to hunter jumpers, before moving to Atlanta in 1996 to manage a farm and lesson program in Covington, Georgia.

Always a sucker for a gray horse, she bought a named Tate in 1998, and began her career in saddle fitting. Tate had a number of previous injuries and issues, and finding a saddle that fit him properly and comfortably proved challenging, so Nancy began studying horse anatomy and learning proper saddle fit in order to be able to ride Tate. She started working as a representative for Albion Saddles in 2001, but also fit and flocked any brand of saddle, as the comfort of the horse is her number one priority.

Nancy began working exclusively with Custom Saddlery in 2008, expanding her knowledge base and territory to cover most of the state of Georgia, where she works with hundreds of clients across multiple disciplines. An acknowledged leader in her industry, Nancy works weekly in the Custom Saddlery factory in Aiken, SC, building new saddles and training new Custom Saddlery fitters and representatives. She works with many breeds and riders, from backyard horses to dressage horses to 5* Event horses. Her sponsored riders include 5* eventers Elisa Wallace and her horse Simply Priceless (Johnny), who have run Blenheim, Burghley, and (formerly Rolex); and Olympic hopeful for Team Mexico Daniela Moguel on Cecelia, who have competed at the World Equestrian Games and the Am Games. harmonysaddlefitting.com

CARL BLEDSOE

From his farm in Talking Rock, GA, Carl brings with him a history of horsemanship and a wealth of knowledge to the gaited horse breeds. He is a second generation trainer of and World Champion Tennessee Walking Horses which he has since moved away from. Carl is now an advocate for the sound Tennessee Walking Horse and other gaited breeds. Carl declared, “I choose the horse.” His past is a key component in who he is today because it has completely molded and shaped him into the horseman he has become. He made the decision to walk away from that world and it was the best decision he ever made. He now works with all breeds and disciplines and he and his wife, Tammy, have made it their life’s mission to speak out against the mistreatment and misconceptions of the Tennessee Walking Horse and bring awareness to this amazingly talented and tolerant breed as well as all of the other gaited breeds. Carl believes in education and understanding by having compassion and empathy for the horse: not “training” but rather building relationships. He approaches each horse as an individual and always asks himself, “What’s in it for the horse?” Carl and Tammy conduct clinics all over the US, sharing his story of his progression from the show ring to teaching with the best interest of horse and rider as his primary focus in the hopes of someday proving just how wonderful and versatile these amazing creatures really are. carlbledsoehorsemanship.com

Michele has been involved in horses of all kinds since she was 4 yrs old. She has competed on a national level with American Quarter horses, Paint horses and briefly with Haflingers. Michele became involved with American Shetlands in 2009. Now, she and her mom raise them on their farm near Perry, GA; Lucky M Farm. “These are not your grandma’s Shetlands.” This phrase usually comes up in conversation when she talks with people new to Shetlands. Michele has been doing demonstrations with her Shetlands at the Georgia National Fair since 2012 with the Minis and More Driving Club. This is her first solo Demo. She loves to talk to people about Shetlands or just horses in general. She has many disciples under her belt. She does most of her own training and farrier work. American Shetlands are exceptionally versatile and quick to learn. They are smaller than other equine, so if you are small on area to keep a full sized horse consider a Shetland. They are small enough to be sized right for the handicap also.. Michele likes to say that Shetlands are horses in concentrate. Just about anything you can do with a full sized horse you can do with a Shetland. Almost. Shetlands come in a variety of types from a stocky, muscled, flat trotting type to an ultra refined high trotting type. Temperaments come in a variety too, from very calm and laid back to very lively. They also come in all colors except Appaloosa. So, if you decide to try a Shetland, be sure you consider all the traits.

TIERNEY LANGDON Gypsy Dharma Yoga

Tierney Langdon is the founder of Gypsy Dharma Yoga. The mission of Gypsy Dharma is to help those who are lost to find themselves. Life changes, challenges and trauma’s all contribute to the gradual loss of self. Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018, Tierney found herself completely lost. No longer the person she used to be, she transformed into someone new during her healing journey. This journey was central to the origin of Gypsy Dharma Yoga. Through her own personal healing she is able to share her experience, strength and hope with others. A born dancer (and lifelong horse lover), Tierney found yoga and described it “like finding a long lost family member”, and began daily practice of yoga in 2016. After her cancer diagnosis, she began to use not just the physical aspect of yoga, but the mental and spiritual practice of yoga as well. Yoga became her guiding star for her journey, and she credits it with “truly saving my life.” Tierney’s passion for yoga is her driving force, with her favorite personal practice being Vinyasa Flow. As an equestrian, she found yoga practice to be beneficial in not only her position in saddle, but it also improved her relationship with her horse. As she focuses on her breath, and her horse’s breathe, she can feel both coming in sync; almost immediately we are connected. As a professional, she prefers to teach a Gentle Yoga Flow Format. Inspired by yogi’s all over the world, she has incorporated yoga practice into her daily routine for physical strength, health and emotional healing. Her goal is to help others see that yoga can be for everybody, and most important of all it is her “ passion to be the light in other people’s life journey”. TINKER MOFFITT

To Tinker Moffitt it seems as if he’s been riding and training horses his entire life. Along the way, he had the honor of working with and learning from some of the most knowledgeable horsemen in our industry: Curt and Fowler, Ray Hunt, Bryan Neubert, Joe Wolter and Buck Brannaman. His philosophy is that “every day is a new day training a horse; a horse might remember yesterday’s lesson, or you might have to go a few steps back. Working with horses is a humbling experience. But at the end of the day it’s all about the horse”. In 2018, Tinker won the GERL Rescue Challenge on a little filly named Dreamer. He was selected again for the 2019 GERL Rescue Challenge and place second with a filly named Annie Oakley who was only with me for 73 days. Both these fillies did a bit of cow work. Tinker is an active rancher, working cows in South Carolina and Georgia while also handling a clinician schedule. He is also a stockbroker for the Junior in which his daughter is involved. As he puts it “at the end of the day I’m just a cowboy trying to make a living and working with some great horses”.

BRYNN PENNINGTON Pine Lane Farm

Head Trainer at Pine Lane Farm in Conyers, GA, Brynn specializes in the Hunter/Jumper discipline and is responsible for training horses as well as a large roster of students. She is the quintessential horse person, and brings along her young students to develop a strong work ethic and comprehensive horse-keeping responsibility. But she really knows how to have fun too! Brynn grew up riding at Pine Lane where she showed in a little bit of everything with her amazing Appaloosa Beamer. As much as she loved competing, her fondest memories are those of her and her best barn buddies racing in our back pastures, saddling up and heading out for all day trail rides, jumping anything and everything, with their incredible horses that were game for anything. Now, almost 30 years later, Brynn is the Head Trainer at Pine Lane trying to create those same memories for her young riders. Her journey with OTTB'S (off the track thoroughbred) started with American Soldier, who shares the same sire as American Pharoah, the triple crown winner. He has been a total training restart. Brynn’s students watched her as she and her horse struggled, took baby steps, reached small milestones, and eventually became a team, now jumping 3’. Watching Brynn gave her students the OTTB bug, and the majority of them now have their own OTTB as well, making their OTTB “herd” 16 horses at this point! The kids do the majority of their own training, under her instruction. KELLY SIGLER Looking Glass Farm

Kelly hails from South Texas where her journey with horsemanship began. She started out riding her aunt’s horses, saving enough money by the time she was ten to buy her own. That horse, Pokey, a little green broke mare off the King Ranch, was her transportation to her friend’s house, the store…..everywhere she could get to. From there, Kelly went on to compete in . After having some trailering issues with her horse, George, she found Parelli. She trained with them for five years as one of Pat Parelli’s proteges. She traveled across the country on the Parelli tour stops with her horse Buckley, also from South Texas and the King Ranch. Today, she trains out of her own farm in Wagener, SC specializing in Foundation Training for horses. Kelly also still travels the country and other parts of the world to teach horsemanship. Laurie has been a traveling trainer in Georgia since 2004, starting her career and completing high levels of advancement through the Parelli Program. Since then I have formulated my own unique blend of horse training that combines dressage, obstacles and trick training. She has worked with well over 100 horses and humans that came from a variety of disciplines and problem situations including: (trailer loading, bucking, bolting, rearing, lead changes, confidence issues, etc.).

Georgia Horse Fair & Expo ~ April 17, 2021 ~ GIHP 30 Georgiahorsefair.org The Georgia Equine Rescue League RESCUE CHALLENGE

About GERL

Georgia Equine Rescue League, LTD (GERL) is a non-profit organization with 501 (c) (3) status that believes it is the responsibility of its members to help find solutions to the growing problem of starved, abused, and neglected equine in the state of Georgia. GERL believes that through education, incentive programs for equine health, and funding of the Georgia Department of Agriculture Equine Division and other law enforcement entities, that positive steps can be taken to help reduce and eventually eliminate this problem in our state.

The Rescue Challenge

In an effort to ensure good homes for our rescue horses, GERL developed a program to greatly enhance their desirability to prospective adoptive homes, promote the skills of some of our good Georgia horse trainers, and spread the word about the plight of many horses in our state. We believe that this experience will greatly improve the chances of each horse involved to be adopted into a loving, forever home. Horses, like children, are very resilient. No matter what experiences they have suffered in the past, they can learn to trust through patient and knowledgeable training.

The competition trainers are selected by a GERL committee and given roughly 120 days to develop the horse in preparation to showcase its training accomplishment at the Rescue Challenge event.

The horses have various temperaments and stages of saddle training in our program. Each horse will be thoroughly evaluated by our expert and will receive a handicap number. Most of these horses suffer trust issues and could be even harder to teach than those with more saddle experience. It will be the trainer’s responsibility to totally evaluate the horse they are working with and devise a program which will help the horse to gain confidence and respect so that they might become safe and willing partners with both the trainers and perspective adopters.

During the Rescue Challenge competition, each horse will demonstrate its progress in three ways: In Hand, Obstacle and Freestyle. Rideable horses will also demonstrate basic walk, trot, canter, halt, rein-back, and work over and around obstacles.

Georgia Horse Fair & Expo ~ April 17, 2021 ~ GIHP 31 Georgiahorsefair.org The Horses

The horses for this year’s competition are from a herd of seized horses that were nearly feral and very underfed. The horses had some time with a foster ‘mom’ who was able to get them to a point where they could be handled – a little. This means the challenge for the trainers this year is very great indeed!

CASSY HOBAN

Growing up on 140 acres in rural Wisconsin riding horses through the rolling hills is where Cassy started living her passion of developing horses. Seeking a career in the horse world, she became a professional tour guide on Amelia Island, Florida offering trail rides on the beach. The farm in Florida was unique in that most of the horses used on the beach rides were rescued and developed for jobs to give people a once in a lifetime experience. It is there that she discovered the art of rehabilitating the minds of horses and how, as humans, to reshape ourselves to better understand and communicate with them. To continue her education, she moved to Eatonton, Georgia to study with two gifted horsewomen and continued to learn the value of relaxation and connection. Being a part of the GERL competition in 2017, Cassy had the honor of working with Reno. He developed into a relaxed, confident partner willing to go anywhere, from dressage, to cross country, to a nice loose rein, relaxed trail kinda guy. She looks forward to helping another horse develop into a relaxed partner ready to take on their next chapter in life!

RYLEE NASH

Rylee Nash is an eighteen year old from Monroe, Georgia who has owned horses since she was nine. She has been around everything from rodeo to and has been working with GERL and training foster horses for four years, and has a reputation for taking on even the most challenging horses to rehabilitate. As a first time challenger, Rylee is looking forward to working with and preparing a horse for life outside the rescue. When she is not training fosters or riding her own horse, Rylee enjoys hiking with friends, hunting with her dad, and spending time outdoors with her family.

RILEY WATSON

In the summer of 2010, Riley discovered her love for horses while participating in a week long horse camp. From then on, she did whatever she could to support that love. Mucking out stalls in exchange for riding lessons and assisting with guided beach rides as the designated poop picker-upper to help pay for her horse’s monthly board. Participating in horsemanship clinics when she could, Riley was always seeking further education. Fast forward to 2017 Riley was offered an internship on a wonderful farm located in Eatonton, GA. Jumping headfirst into the unknown, she learned what is was like to help run a high functioning boarding and training barn. Over the course of 2 years, Riley stayed at this farm learning how to become a better horsewoman and how to develop a safe and willing partner suited for any discipline. Whether that be trail riding, traditional dressage, cowboy dressage, eventing, and everything in between. Riley learned the importance of a solid foundation and the relationship shared and is hoping to share that knowledge with those who are as passionate about it as she is.

Georgia Horse Fair & Expo ~ April 17, 2021 ~ GIHP 35 Georgiahorsefair.org TINKER MOFFITT

To Tinker Moffitt it seems as if he’s been riding and training horses his entire life. Along the way, he had the honor of working with and learning from some of the most knowledgeable horsemen in our industry: Curt and Jerry Fowler, Ray Hunt, Bryan Neubert, Joe Wolter and Buck Brannaman. He was selected again for the 2019 GERL Rescue Challenge and place second with a filly named Annie Oakley who was only with him for 73 days. Both these fillies did a bit of cow work. Tinker is an active rancher, working cows in South Carolina and Georgia while also handling a clinician schedule. He is also a stockbroker for the Junior Rodeo in which his daughter is involved. As he puts it “at the end of the day I’m just a cowboy trying to make a living and working with some great horses”.
