To start out, I would like to explain my intentions. When Maskelyne and Devant published Our Magic in 1911, they urged magicians to recognize the importance of being original in magic. “Without originality,” they said, “no man can become a great artist.” Their efforts paid off. Today, magicians almost universally accept the importance of originality. Just as Maskelyne observed over one hundred years ago, magicians tend to seek after originality in one of three ways.

JoyalStack Price Guide TO USED MAGIC BOOKS — Crop 1203 — Introduction Putting a price on a magic book is far from being an exact science. Apart from the the book's content and its author, many factors must be considered: the edition, the condition of the book, the publication date, how many copies were printed, if it's still available or out of print, if an upcoming reprint was recently announced, the presence or lack of a dust jacket, if it's a signed copy, etc. You might also have some subjective criteria: perhaps you received the book as a gift, it was your first magic book, it reminds of a favorite lecture you attended, etc. It goes without saying that evaluating a magic library is a time consuming process. Although we are dealing with magic books, there is no magic way to arrive easily at an exact value. However, hopefully, this guide will make the task easier for you. In the current edition, named Crop 1203, nearly 10,000 prices were compiled for 7 time periods. • Psychic Perspectives
Psychic Perspectives By Craig Browning Involved with the world of Magic & Puppetry since 1963 (just barely out of diapers when he got his first top hat) Craig Browning's early-year inspirations came from television - Mark Wilson's Magic Land of Alakazam and the popular Sherri Lewis & Lambchop shows. Though he was already doing backyard performances by the time he was six, featuring his own "Vanishing Beagle" illusion (the first of many "original" illusions he'd go on to create) Craig's role as a performing pros would have to wait a couple of years… just a couple though; by the time he was ten he was working a fairly regular schedule playing Christopher Robbin, the lad of the Thousand Acre Woods, as part of a promotion for a new kid's clothing line. It was a role he'd fill well into his early teens. By the mid-1970s the idea of being an "Illusionist" was firmly set in his mind via the success of Doug Henning and other revivalists of the day. The one that captured his attention most and the one, who would lend to Craig Browning the greatest sense of impetus however, was South American legend Richiardi. The famed manner by which this late master presented the Buzz Saw and Decapitation effects as well as his mastery over the classic Broom Suspension revealed to this then aspiring teen, insight as to how magic was to be performed. Though a brief tour with the U.S. Navy would prove a minor interruption Craig Browning would pursue his role as a stage Illusionist well into the late 1980s and early 90s.

National Magic Day each year on October 31st recognizes the thrill of seeing the performance art. It takes place during National Magic Week. One of the most renowned magicians was Harry Houdini. His show business savvy was as exceptional as his showmanship. Magic Day started with a “Houdini Day”, the first of which took place in the summer of 1927, less than one year after the famous magician’s death. His wife presented a trophy in honour of him on that day. Houdini died at 1:26pm on October 31st, 1926. The Houdini Museum is located in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Some magic categories: Stage illusions –a kind of large scale performance on a stage. Parlor magic – a performance before a medium scale audience such as an auditorium. Micromagic – performed close up using coins, cards, and other small items. It’s also known as close-up or table magic. This type of performance occurs in an intimate setting. Escapology – In this type of performance, the artist escapes from a dangerous situation such as being submerged underwater while handcuffed or dangling from a burning rope. Pickpocket magic – A distraction type of performance, the artist, makes watches, jewelry, wallets, and more disappear through misdirection. The audience witnesses the entire event.
