SYNOPSIS There’s a theory that we should be born with a small amount of alcohol in our blood, and that modest inebriation opens our minds to the world around us, diminishing our problems and increasing our creativity. Heartened by that theory, Martin and three of his friends, all weary high school teachers, embark on an experiment to maintain a constant level of intoxication throughout the workday. If Churchill won WW2 in a heavy daze of alcohol, who knows what a few drops might do for them and their students? Initial results are positive, and the teachers’ little project turns into a genuine academic study. Both their classes and their results continue to improve, and the group feels alive again! As the units are knocked back, some of the participants see further improvement and others go off the rails. It becomes increasingly clear that while alcohol may have fueled great results in world history, some bold acts carry consequences.     MoMA | press | Releases | 2001 | Good Marchine: Tenth Anniversary Page 1 of 4 For Immediate Release February 2001 THE MUSEUM OF MODERN ART TO CELEBRATE TENTH ANNIVERSARY OF GOOD MACHINE, NEW YORK-BASED PRODUCTION COMPANY Good Machine: Tenth Anniversary February 13-23, 2001 The Roy and Niuta Titus Theatre 1 Over the past ten years, Good Machine, a New York-based production company helmed by Ted Hope, David Linde and James Schamus, has become one of the major forces in independent film culture worldwide. Dedicated to the work of emerging, innovative filmmakers, Good Machine has produced or co-produced films by, among others, Ang Lee, Todd Solondz, Nicole Holofcener, Ed Burns, Cheryl Dunye and Hal Hartley. Beginning with Tui Shou (Pushing Hands) (1992), the first collaboration between Good Machine and director Ang Lee, The Museum of Modern Art presents eight feature films and five shorts from February 13 through 23, 2001 at the Roy and Niuta Titus Theatre 1. "Good Machine proves that audiences do want to be entertained intelligently and engaged substantively," remarks Laurence Kardish, Senior Curator, Department of Film and Video, who organized the series. "Their achievements are reflected in this Tenth Anniversary series and are, in large part, due to Good Machine's collaborations with filmmakers and its respect for the creative process." In addition to producing and co-producing films, Good Machine has gone on to establish an international sales company involved in distributing diverse and unusual works such as Joan Chen's Xiu Xiu: The Sent-Down Girl (1998) and Lars Von Trier's Dancer in the Dark (2000).

    BAM presents Women at Work: The Domestic Is Not Free, Nov 2—10, spotlighting the ways women have created, challenged, and subverted domesticity October 9, 2018/Brooklyn, NY—From Friday, November 2 through Saturday, November 10 BAM presents Women at Work: The Domestic Is Not Free, a wide-ranging series spotlighting the overlooked work women take on in the home as house-workers, caretakers, and familial partners. The Domestic Is Not Free is the third edition of the ongoing Women at Work series—following Women at Work: Labor Activism in March and Women at Work: Radical Creativity in August—and highlights the historically erased and undervalued physical and emotional labor women perform, often invisibly, every day. The series considers the myriad ways in which women around the world have challenged and subverted traditional associations between gender and domesticity. Exploring the intersections of labor, race, class, and social environment, these films embody human stories of sacrifice and endurance. BAM Cinema Department Coordinator and programmer of the series Natalie Erazo explains, “I learned early on to value the domestic space and appreciate the women around me who shaped it. I hope this series will encourage viewers to acknowledge the monotony and emotional bearing of a life often relegated to being behind the scenes.” The series opens with Ousmane Sembène’s seminal Black Girl (1966—Nov 2). Screening with short films Fannie’s Film (Woods, 1979) and Fucked Like a Star (Saintonge, 2018), these films depict black women in roles of domestic service while also giving audiences access to their inner thoughts, feelings, and struggles.

Even if it has, the plot has been ruined by the presence of unrealistic creatures, politicising the use of bio-weapon. Only the biographies of some famous scientists or to develop the history of great epidemics and pandemics, the infectious diseases somewhat got attention marginally. The current pandemic situation has correctly pointed out to us, that how much health literacy is lacking in both rural as well as in urban society. Therefore commercial films, being made for and accepted by anyone without barrier, how much effectively ascertain towards the health literacy on infectious disease, is a fascinating topic to research further. This paper will try to find out how much commercial films, based on viral infections and contagious diseases, actually contribute towards the health literacy and awareness of the audience.
