President’s Letter HONORING OUR DEMOCRACY with the Congressional Patriot Award

In the midst of the 2016 election contest, some may find the idea of constructive partisanship inconceivable. Despite the array of interests and ideology that challenge our democracy, there are some with the unique capacity to guide our nation in common purpose.

On the evening of Tuesday, 15, the Bipartisan Policy Center presented its inaugural Congressional Patriot Award to Reps. Sam Johnson (R-TX) and (D-GA) in a ceremony at the .

Every two years, the Congressional Patriot Award will recognize two members of Congress who place the interests of the nation above all else, in a manner that brings credibility and honor to the Congress.

Johnson and Lewis are proud partisans who have demonstrated unrivaled courage in the face of injustice. We believe it is this same fearlessness that enables great legislators to overcome differences and govern a diverse nation. We are proud to name this award in their honor.
