Danzatak Show 34 Educational Trusts 35 I am pleased to say that our new Year 9 students are settling into life Calendar 36 in their upper school. They recently sampled the wealth of extra curricular activities at our Freshers’ Fayre. In addition to welcoming our new students, a visible difference around school must certainly be our new accommodation, notably, our new Languages block and the extension to the Music Corrick Theatre; along with the refurbishment of our Sixth Form Common Room. I am also delighted to report that our planning application for a new Drama studio has been granted and work is due to commence early in the new year. I hope that parents have found our information evenings held this half term useful, including the Year 12 information evening, the Drugs Awareness evening, Year 10 coursework evening and latterly the Sixth Form Open Evening. Enhancing our work within the classroom, there have already been a number of educational visits this half term that you will be able to read about later in this newsletter. I am grateful to our staff for leading these valuable trips. A pleasure for parents, students and staff was the recent charity recital that was organised by our Parents’ Music Support Group and enthusiastically supported by the thrilled audience raising over £800 for the Music Department. 1 Behind the scenes, rehearsals are also underway for this year’s school production of the popular 1950’s musical Grease. We recently celebrated this part of our school calendar with our Harvest Church Services at St. Andrew’s Church led by Preb. Victor Daley and also Rev. Tim Hawkings of Axbridge. I always enjoy these important spiritual gatherings in the life of Kings and I am grateful to our Christian Leader Jo Burridge for organising the services. There is already an international feel to the school year with Latvian dancers visiting in partnership with local Danzatak led by Dr Alec Brice. The Czech exchange has recently departed and our Languages Department will soon be off to Berlin for their cultural visit. I remind parents of our forthcoming Target Setting Day on Tuesday 14 November 2006 when parents will have opportunity to meet with their child’s tutor to discuss their progress and targets for the coming year. I do hope that you will all be able to attend this important meeting. Finally, in addition to our news reported in the local press, I invite you all to watch out for our Kings and Queens news team who at the time of writing are fine‐tuning their articles to appear in the Cheddar Valley Gazette during half term. As you can see life never stands still at Kings, so I would like to wish all our parents and students a restful and enjoyable half term holiday and thank you for all your support. I remind you that we return to school on Monday 6 November 2006. Yours sincerely, CHRIS RICHARDSON Headteacher Important message for Year 10 Parents from Subject Leader for English Ms Anderson!
