The Western Norway Regional Health Authority The Western Norway Regional Health Authority (WNRHA, "Helse Vest") has overall responsibility for providing specialist healthcare services in the counties of Rogaland, Hordaland and Sogn og Fjordane. Its role is to ensure that people in the region have access to the services that they are legally entitled to. Helse Vest owns the six health trusts in the region and provides them with group management services. It also owns the ICT provider Helse Vest IKT AS. The health trusts employ around 27,500 health service staff. The authority’s total budget is approximately NOK 25 billion. Around 50 people are employed directly by the authority, which is based at Forus in Stavanger. Helse Vest is one of four regional health authorities in Norway and reports to the Ministry of Health and Care Services. The six health trusts within Helse Vest in addition to Helse Vest IKT AS are: Bergen Hospital Trust Fonna Hospital Trust Førde Hospital Trust Stavanger Hospital Trust Trust Sjukehusapoteka Vest (Hospital Pharmacies) Trust Helse Vest Procurement (est. April 2015) The health trusts in the region own and operate around 50 public hospitals and other health institutions, and they provide health care to a population of approximately 1.1 million. Bergen Hospital Trust Haukeland University Hospital is the largest hospital within Bergen Hospital Trust. It employs around 12,000 people and serves as the local hospital for Bergen, Midthordland and Nordhordland, the central hospital for Hordaland county, and the regional hospital for Hordaland, Rogaland and Sogn og Fjordane counties. Every year Haukeland University Hospital treats almost 600,000 patients and trains 2,000 or so health workers. Its budget is approximately NOK 9.4 billion. The hospital covers a site of approx. 200,000 m2 and the main building (Sentralblokka) occupies approx. 125,000 m2. Haukeland is a national specialist hospital and resource centre for burns injuries, air-pressure injuries (diving), corneal prostheses and treatment of intercranial tumours. Stavanger Hospital Trust Stavanger University Hospital (SUS) employs around 7,300 people and serves as the local hospital in an area stretching from the municipality of Hjelmeland in the north to the municipality of Sokndal in the south. It is also the central hospital of Rogaland county. SUS’ budget is approximately NOK 5.8 billion. Fonna Health Trust employs around 4000 people and provides health services to a population of 170,500 people in 19 municipalities (Tysvær, Fitjar, Haugesund, Ullensvang, Stord, Vindafjord, Odda, Sveio Suldal, Bømlo, Sauda, Karmøy Bokn, Etne, Jondal, Kvinnherad, Eidfjord, Paths and Utsira). Fonna Health Trust comprises Haugesund Hospital, Stord Hospital, Odda Hospital and Valen hospital. Its budget is approximately NOK 3.1 billion. Førde Health Trust Førde Health Trust provides health care services to the 110,000 inhabitants of Sogn og Fjordane county. The trust employs around 2,300 people and has a budget of approximately NOK 2.5 billion. Trust Sjukehusapoteka Vest (Hospital Pharmacies) Trust Sjukehusapoteka Vest runs hospital pharmacies in Bergen, Stavanger, Haugesund and Førde. The hospital pharmacies can be found in the largest hospitals in Hordaland, Rogaland and Sogn og Fjordane. The trust’s activities mainly relate to the production and sale of products and advisory services primarily to institutions, but also to the general public. Total turnover is approximately NOK 900 million. Trust Helse Vest Procurement Trust Helse Vest Procurement was established in April 2015, and is expected to be fully operational by the second half of 2015. The trust merges the procurement capacities previously distributed within Helse Vest RHF in a single entity, thereby providing for significant savings and synergies. Helse Vest IKT Helse Vest IKT is a limited liability company with Helse Vest as the sole owner. It supplies ICT services to the entire Helse Vest group, (Førde Health Trust, Bergen Health Trust, Fonna Health Trust, Stavanger Health Trust, Trust Sjukehusapoteka Vest, Trust Helse Vest Procurement) as well as other healthcare organizations (doctor's surgeries, private charitable health institutions). Helse Vest IKT current employs around 400 people in Førde, Bergen, Haugesund and Stavanger. Helse Vest IKT supports more than 29,000 users and in excess of 15,000 workstations across 200 or so locations. Helse Vest IKT supplies products and services in the areas of operations, production and user support. Helse Vest IKT also provides installation of user equipment, system administration and system integration. The company assists with commissioning, training, decommissioning and system changes. It also offers consultancy services and project management. .
