Champion High School presents, “High School Musical” Students of Champion High School are currently rehearsing for their spring musical, “Disney’s High School Musical” to be performed on March 24 & 25, 2017 in the high school auditorium. In the stage show you’ll watch the movie characters come to life as Troy (played by sophomore, Thomas Headrick), Gabriella (played by junior, Madalyn Williams), Sharpay (played by sophomore Ginny Williams), Ryan (played by senior Kyle Shaffer), Ms. Darbus (played by sophomore, Jenna Smith), Coach Bolton (played by junior Nic Lilly), the Jocks, the Brainiacs, the Thespians and the Skater Dudes come to realize that “We’re all in this Together! Other favorite songs include, “Stick to the Status Quo”, “Start of Something New” and “Bop to the Top”. The story: It's the first day after winter break at East High. The Jocks, Brainiacs, Thespians and Skaters find their cliques, recount their vacations and look forward to the New Year. Basketball team captain and resident jock, Troy, discovers that the brainy Gabriella, a girl he met singing karaoke on his ski trip, has just enrolled at East High. They cause an upheaval when they decide to audition for the high school musical that is being led by Ms. Darbus. Although many students resent the threat posed to the "status quo," with Troy and Gabriella's help they just might learn a thing or two. The show is directed by Mrs. Renee Johntony and music direction is provided by Champion graduate, Keith Stepanic. I examine how song and dance – sites of aesthetic difference within the musical – can warp time and enable marginalized and semi-marginalized fans to imagine different ways of being in the world. Musical numbers can complicate a linear, developmental plot by accelerating and decelerating time, foregrounding repetition and circularity, bringing the past to life and projecting into the future, and physicalizing dreams in a narratively open present. These excesses have the potential to contest naturalized constructions of historical, progressive time, as well as concordant constructions of gender, sexual, and racial identities. While the musical has historically been a rich source of identification for the stereotypical white gay male show queen, this project validates a broad and flexible range of non-normative readings.

March 5, 2018 DISNEY CHANNEL'S 'ZOMBIES' GETS EVEN LIVELIER IN L+7 NIELSEN RATINGS, DIGITAL VIEWING, MUSIC VIDEOS AND BILLBOARD MUSIC CHART RANKINGS Meg Donnelly and Milo Manheim to Host Special Telecast on Disney Channel with Fun Second Screen Live Play Activities on DisneyNOW, Friday, March 30 The power of a music-driven story, an integral part of Disney Channel's connection to kid and tween viewers, continues to bear out with "ZOMBIES," the #1 cable telecast among Kids 6-11, Kids 6-14, Tweens 9-14 and Girls 6-11 in seven months, since the premiere of "Descendants 2" (July 21, 2017). Among all kids cable TV networks, it is the highest rated telecast in Total Viewers (four million), since the debut of "Raven's Home" (July 21, 2017), according to newly available L+7 data. Starting a New Year Is a Chance for Change. Things Are Different Now, for Everyone Who’S in This Room, to How They Were Last Year

Starting a new year is a chance for change. Things are different now, for everyone who’s in this room, to how they were last year. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been at this school all your life or if today is your first day – this year is a new year and we have different responsibilities, expectations, privileges and opportunities. With all this potential for change, the one piece of advice I think I can give is to give everything – absolutely everything – a go. This school offers so many varied opportunities through this whole year – in sport, creative education, social activism, service; the list is endless. I can tell you that, if the last two years are anything to go by, then this year will be over before we know it and there are chances in the next one, two or three years for everyone here to take these opportunities – because they won’t present themselves in this number and variation again. Whether you’re the songbird of this generation or tonally challenged, House Music is coming up later this term, so give it a go. Try out for all the events at House Swimming and House Aths. You can actually make a positive difference through helping with the charities that the School is involved in, or star in the upcoming Senior School Play. The School offers amazing trips throughout the year, some of which are experiences you could have nowhere else. The opportunities are practically endless. I guess the scary thing about trying something new is leaving yourself open to failure and criticism.
