So many of you enjoy and look forward to the plays year after year. I am excited that the Township brings this tradition free to the public for all to enjoy. Bernards Township proudly sponsors this event and substantially subsidizes the budget because we recognize the importance of keeping performing arts alive. It is truly wonderful that these productions are here, under the stars, in Pleasant Valley Park. July is Parks and Recreation Month. It’s a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind. At Bernardsville Middle School, she created the drama, forensics, and improv programs, which garnered numerous awards and championships over a twenty-five year period. Lorrie currently volunteers at the PaperMill and Shakespeare Theaters of New Jersey and is a long-time evaluator for the PaperMill's Rising Star Program. Jaye Barre (Producer) has directed productions for Plays in the Park for many years as well as Ridge High School and other local schools. Recent projects include The Little Mermaid, Godspell, Cats, The Wizard of Oz, Peter Pan, Titanic, Oklahoma, Music Man and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.     Bye Bye Birdie Synopsis and Character Descriptions SYNOPSIS (compliments of Tams-Witmark Music Library, Inc.): BYE BYE BIRDIE is one of the most captivating musical shows of our time. It tells the story of a rock and roll singer who is about to be inducted into the army. The singer, Conrad Birdie, an Elvis Presley type, has a pompadour and thick sideburns; he wears gaudy gold costumes and speaks in a rugged voice. Albert Peterson, his agent, is a very pleasant mild-mannered young man. Albert's faithful secretary Rose Alvarez keeps him and Birdie moving forward in the world. Rosie concocts one final national publicity plan before Conrad's induction. Conrad will bid a typical American teen-age girl goodbye with an all-American kiss.     Welcome It is my pleasure to welcome you to AS YOU LIKE IT, the first production of our 50th anniversary season, and the first show in our Shakespearean act. Shakespeare’s plays have been a cornerstone of our work at CSC, and his writing continues to reflect and refract our triumphs and trials as individuals and collectively as a society. We inevitability turn to Shakespeare to express our despair, bewilderment, and delight. So, what better place to start our anniversary year than with the contemplative search for self and belonging in As You Like It. At the heart of this beautiful play is a speech that so perfectly encapsulates our mortality. All the world’s a stage, and we go through so many changes as we make our exits and our entrances. You will have noticed many changes for CSC. We have a new look, new membership opportunities, and are programming in a new way with more productions and a season that splits into what we have called “acts.” Each act focuses either on a playwright or on an era of work. It seemed appropriate to inaugurate this with a mini-season of Shakespeare, which continues with Fiasco Theater's TWELFTH NIGHT.
