  • Adam West Became TV's Batman After Producers Saw Him As Captain Quik
Adam West Became TV’s Batman After Producers Saw Him As Captain Quik Each year on September 27th folks enjoy a tall, frosty glass to celebrate National Chocolate Milk Day. An Irish physician named Sir Hans Sloane is the inventor of chocolate milk. Doctor and collector Sir Hans Sloane created the concoction all the way back in 1687. Sloane brought back his chocolate milk recipe with him back to England from Jamaica, where it was manufactured and sold as medicine. According to some historians, the Jamaicans were brewing “a hot beverage brewed from shavings of freshly harvested cacao, boiled with milk and cinnamon” as far back as 1494. Chocolate has been known to humans as far back as 350 BC. Europeans had known about chocolate since 1502 when Columbus brought it back from his conquests in the Americas — although it wasn’t until Cortez pillaged the Aztecs in 1516 that Europeans actually figured out what to do with cacao. Chocolate milk can boost calcium and vitamin D, which research shows are important for preserving cartilage and joint health. Research has found that cacao actually contains antibacterial agents that fight tooth decay. The problem is that the things that are added such as sugar and milk can still cause cavities. Drinking one large glass after you work out will boost muscle growth and speed recovery. There are 5 milligrams of caffeine in each mini carton of chocolate milk. People think chocolate milk comes from brown cows? According to a study, 7% of Americans think this is true. John Cadbury, and sons George and Richard, later purchased Sloane’s milk chocolate.

Title Here A Korak in Pal-ul-don Article at erblist.com ETERNAL FRIENDS A Love of Fantastic Fiction The Mark Tapson Interview STEVE ALLSUP Copyright 2007 Tangor, Kaor! Well, I have something I think you will really enjoy here. I am forwarding to you the Mark Tapson interview-- Kotan interviews Jadon after 38 years! I sent these questions to Mark and he has put together some truly excellent responses! I really am pleased with his answers. I hope that you can post this on the Korak in Pal-ul-don page, which I promised Mark we would do. He has even included a photo if you wish to post it with the interview. I have mentioned Mark frequently during my time on the listserv, and here at last is the ultimate from one of my oldest and dearest friends. He reveals all concerning his thoughts on Tarzan and fantasy. Here is my proposed title, if you like this or wish to change it a bit: THE MARK TAPSON INTERVIEW: Jadon discusses with Kotan (Korak) the deep mysteries of Tarzan and Conan Note: Editor changed title. 1 Title Here Introduction Mark Tapson is currently working as a screenwriter in Los Angeles while living temporarily in Australia with his new bride, Anna. Over the years he has worked in a wide variety of occupations invol- ving many areas of life, and for many years was the founding leader of the Samba-Reggae group Oju Oba, popular in the San Francisco area. I first be- came friends with Mark around the age of seven, when we lived on the same street and attended the same school in second grade.

1 Detective Comics #27: The very first glimpse we get of the guy and already he looks pissed. 2 The first time we see Batman’s origin. It, um, won’t be the last. But modern retellings invariably discard this candlelit oath- making bit of business, likely deeming it hokey. Which: sure it is. But to skip it does a grave disservice; that oath is who Batman is. 3 For the very first time, the Joker strikes. 4 Thirty-eight years after that gruesome first kill, the Englehart/ Rogers/Austin team would pay fannish homage to it—and to a lot of Batman’s history—during their acclaimed run. 5 Enter: the pixie-booted pre- pubescent! Brought on board just a year after Batman’s first appearance to lighten the mood, Robin doubled sales and touched off a vogue for kid sidekicks. But! 6 (Detail of above page.) For decades, Robin’s steadfast appearance at Batman’s side has invited snide jokes and innuendo. Perhaps this was inevitable, even fated. Some unfortunate kerning in his introductory scroll (“ . .takes under his protect- ing mantle GUYS WHERE’S THE SPACE BETWEEN ‘AN’ AND ‘ALLY’ AW GEEZ STOP THE DAMN PRESSES”) couldn’t have helped matters. 7 Robin’s chirpy presence made for a sunnier Batman. His rogues’ gallery felt it too: suddenly mass-murdering became passé and petty larceny was au courant. Take this goon: Joe Coyne, the Penny Plunderer, and his “crime symbol.” In Gotham’s underworld, ya gotta have a gimmick. 8 In the ’50s, Batman’s supporting cast swelled with masked hangers-on.
