Coverscaping: Discovering Album Aesthetics. Museum Tusculanum Press. 2 Abstract The Pomegranate Cycle is a practice-led enquiry consisting of a creative work and an exegesis. This project investigates the potential of self-directed, technologically mediated composition as a means of reconfiguring gender stereotypes within the operatic tradition. This practice confronts two primary stereotypes: the positioning of female performing bodies within narratives of violence and the absence of women from authorial roles that construct and regulate the operatic tradition. The Pomegranate Cycle redresses these stereotypes by presenting a new narrative trajectory of healing for its central character, and by placing the singer inside the role of composer and producer. During the twentieth and early twenty-first century, operatic and classical music institutions have resisted incorporating works of living composers into their repertory. -
2Cellos Take Fans to the Movies with New Album Score Accompanied by the London Symphony Orchestra
2CELLOS TAKE FANS TO THE MOVIES WITH NEW ALBUM SCORE ACCOMPANIED BY THE LONDON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA ALBUM AVAILABLE MARCH 17, 2017 BAND KICKS OFF WORLD TOUR IN SUMMER 2017 2CELLOS, music’s most electric and dynamic instrumental duo, go to the movies for their new Portrait/Sony Music Masterworks album Score, available on March 17, 2017. Bringing 2CELLOS’ game-changing sound and style to the most popular melodies ever written for classic and contemporary movies and television, Score will be supported by a world tour, kicking off with its U.S. leg in July 2017. An international sensation since their unique video version of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal” rocked YouTube with millions of hits in 2011, the Croatian cellists Luka Šulić and Stjepan Hauser have created three high-energy albums for Sony Music Masterworks. Score finds them exploring a more traditional sound-world. Joining them here – to provide the ideal aural backdrop to their virtuosity – is the London Symphony Orchestra, with conductor/arranger Robin Smith at the helm. Šulić and Hauser also co-produced Score with Nick Patrick (Elvis Presley/Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Russell Watson, Il Divo, Plácido Domingo). “We love movie music! This album represents some of our favorite pieces of music by our favorite film composers. Having the opportunity to arrange them for cello whilst working with the world class London Symphony Orchestra has been a dream come true,” says Stjepan. The album opens with an arrangement of Ramin Djawadi’s melodies that score Game of Thrones, culminating in the bold Main Title theme, in which the stirring sound of cellos announces each of what may be the most eagerly awaited episodes in contemporary television. -

Since the action took place in a boat on the open sea, where would the music come from? Raksin reportedly responded by asking Hitchcock where the cameras came from. This course examines film sound practices, focusing on cross-modal perception and cognition: on ways in which sounds influence what we “see” and images influence what we “hear.” Classes are conducted in a lecture format and involve multimedia demonstrations. We will be tackling the following questions: • How and why does music and sound effects work in films? • How did they come to be paired with the motion picture? • How did film sound conventions develop and what are their theoretical, socio-cultural, and cognitive bases? • How does non-speech sound contribute to a film’s narrative and how can such contribution be creatively explored? Aesthetics of the Motion Picture Soundtrack – Spring 2014 – Section 01 Page 1 of 12 COURSE DESCRIPTION & OBJECTIVES Course examines Classical Hollywood as well as more recent film soundtrack practices, focusing on the interpretation of film sound relative to ‘expectancy’ theories of meaning and emotion. -

Adventures in Film Music Redux Composer Profiles
Adventures in Film Music Redux - Composer Profiles ADVENTURES IN FILM MUSIC REDUX COMPOSER PROFILES A. R. RAHMAN Elizabeth: The Golden Age A.R. Rahman, in full Allah Rakha Rahman, original name A.S. Dileep Kumar, (born January 6, 1966, Madras [now Chennai], India), Indian composer whose extensive body of work for film and stage earned him the nickname “the Mozart of Madras.” Rahman continued his work for the screen, scoring films for Bollywood and, increasingly, Hollywood. He contributed a song to the soundtrack of Spike Lee’s Inside Man (2006) and co- wrote the score for Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007). However, his true breakthrough to Western audiences came with Danny Boyle’s rags-to-riches saga Slumdog Millionaire (2008). Rahman’s score, which captured the frenzied pace of life in Mumbai’s underclass, dominated the awards circuit in 2009. He collected a British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Award for best music as well as a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for best score. He also won the Academy Award for best song for “Jai Ho,” a Latin-infused dance track that accompanied the film’s closing Bollywood-style dance number. Rahman’s streak continued at the Grammy Awards in 2010, where he collected the prize for best soundtrack and “Jai Ho” was again honoured as best song appearing on a soundtrack. Rahman’s later notable scores included those for the films 127 Hours (2010)—for which he received another Academy Award nomination—and the Hindi-language movies Rockstar (2011), Raanjhanaa (2013), Highway (2014), and Beyond the Clouds (2017). -
Referentes De La Mitología Clásica En La Obra De Dead Can Dance

As Reviewed by Bryan Gladstone, Dave Clark, and Carol Clark My First
as reviewed by Bryan Gladstone, Dave Clark, and Carol Clark My first experience with Simaudio the usual RCA inputs for normal operation, XLR inputs for was with an integrated amplifier I balanced operation, and It has a second set of RCA inputs, ONE auditioned while helping a friend put wired out of phase. This makes it possible to achieve a together a modest system. Despite the fact that my tastes balanced input by plugging in two pairs of RCAs, one in run strongly towards tubes, I was very impressed with the phase and one out. I have left my sole peeve for last baby Sim. My friend and I also auditioned some tubed because it is both the most meaningless and the most integrated amps, and he chose a tube amp rather than the annoying. The W-3 has a cobalt blue LED lamp on its Sim, his solid state amp of choice. Tubes and solid state faceplate to indicate its run/standby status. This light is address different sonic values, and satisfy different BRIGHT!!! If you listen in a darkened room, the LED is listeners. Which you choose depends on you. I had few like a flashlight shining in your eyes. I'm in the "If it really solid state listening hours logged in the year before sounds good, black electrical tape will fix it" camp, but the auditioning the Simaudio MOON W-3 power amp, and was tape looks terrible. So, does the amp sound good enough to in for an eye-opening experience. live with tape on the front? I don't feel the need to describe the physical I had forgotten that my ProAcs like power.
