Methods: Data was collected using participatory observations and in-depth interviews, as the informants also become investigators themselves through attending informal meetings, open and group discussions, and overt observations with semi-structured questionnaires. Quantitative analyses were accomplished through the informant consensus factor (ICF), fidelity level, and inter-network analysis (INA). Results: In total, 200 species of vascular plants belonging to 168 genera and 87 families were utilized traditionally in 1,682 ethnomedicianal practices. The representative families were Rosaceae (6.5%) followed by Asteraceae (5.5%), Poaceae (4.5%), and Fabaceae (4.0%). On the whole, 27 kinds of plant-parts were used and prepared in 51 various ways by the residents for medicinal purposes. The ICF values in the ailment categories were muscular-skeletal disorders (0.98), pains (0.97), respiratory system disorders (0.97), liver complaints (0.97), and cuts and wounds (0.96). In terms of fidelity levels, 57 plant species showed fidelities levels of 100%. Regarding the inter-network analysis (INA) between ailments and medicinal plants within all communities of this study, the position of ailments is distributed into four main groups. -

Abstract: A critical review of botanical nomenclature for Anemone patens L. is given based on a rigorous literature analysis. Complete morphological characteristics and karyology of the taxon are compiled using data from the floristic treatments of Europe and North America. The phylogeny of A. patens in relation to a variety of contrasting historical, ecological and evolutionary factors acting through the species range transformation and speciation is elucidated. Keywords: morphological characteristics, chromosome numbers, taxonomic considerations, origin, evolution Introduction Some plants, such as Anemone patens L. sensu lato from the buttercup or crowfoot family (Ranunculaceae), with very broad geographical range, highly expressed polymorphism, the existence of numerous transitional forms, convergent evolution, ability to cross and interbreed in a great variety of habitats, may become a nightmare for taxonomists. Arguably, A. patens is one of the most problematic taxa in the genus Anemone L., as far as circumscription and distribution are concerned, which was noted by many authors (e.g. ZÄMELS 1926; TZVELEV 2001). Taxonomic status of A. patens has been widely debated by botanists over a few centuries since the time it was first described by LINNAEUS (1753). -

Prusa 12, 08-110 Siedlce, Poland *corresponding author (e-mail: [email protected]) Abstract: A new locality of Pulsatilla patens (L.) Mill. in the Wyszków-Jegiel Forest District, in the southern part of Puszcza Biała (ATPOL EC79) is described. This locality is situated on an escarpment, at the edge of Peucedano-Pinetum fresh pine forest with elements of Serratulo-Pinetum mixed pine forest and Potentillo albae-Quercetum steppe oak forest. Good light conditions prevail in the place of plant occurrence. Studies carried out in 2008-2015 showed an increasing trend of P. patens population, though, recently, this population seems to be stable. The number of species accompanying the pasque-flower also increased in this time period. It was found based on the analysis of flora directly neighbouring the clumps of the pasque-flower. During 7 years, the number of taxa increased by 31.5% on plot I and by 25% on plot II. In the years 2011-2013, the pasque- flower was represented both by flowering (1-2) and vegetative individuals. Afterwards, the plant was present only in vegetative stage. The number of its leaves varied in time. The highest number of leaves – 14 per individual – was noted in 2014, and the lowest number (1) – in 2012. -

We investigated emergence and survival of seed- lings of endangered Pulsatila pratensis subsp. bohemica on dry grassland close to Prague (Czech Republic). We asked: (1) How are the field emergence and survival of seedlings affected by different plant communities? (2) Is the in situ seeding of lo- cal seeds a perspective method for the reinforcement of the declining population? In May 2010, we selected plots with domi- nant Festuca pallens (Festuca treatment), Geranium sanguineum accompanied by Festuca rupicola (Geranium treatment), and plots without any vegetation (Control treatment) and sewed 1350 seeds of P. pratensis. In October 2010, field emergence was 1.7, 2.6, and 1.3% in Festuca, Geranium, and Control treatments. In March 2011, only 4 and 3 seedlings were recorded in Festuca and Control treatments and no seedlings survived in Geranium treatment. By the end of 2011, only one seedling was alive in Control treatment and this seedling survived till October 2012. Jiras1 1 Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Department of Ecology, Czech Republic 2 Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences, Department of Forest Ecology, Czech Republic Pulsatilla grandis is an endangered species in the Czech Republic and is protected in whole Europe because the number of its populations is declining. One of the possible causes is the deposition of atmospheric nitrogen. In our research, we investigated how nitrogen concentrations and seed appendage removal directly affect the species’ seed germination.Seeds were allowed to –1 germinate under laboratory conditions in water solutions of NH4NO3 ranging in concentration from 0 to 4239 mg N l . They were able to germinate up to the concentration of 848 mg N l–1 even when covered with mycelium, which supports the idea that they can tolerate being strongly infected by fungi. We also found a significant positive effect of seed appendage removal on seed germination. Seeds without appendages germinated, on the average, with 11% greater probability, compared to seeds with appendages. We conclude that the germination of P. grandis is not directly affected by high N concentrations in rain wa- ter, which can range from 10 to 13 mg N l–1 near large cities. Surprisingly, low concentrations of N (up to 34 mg N l–1) might even slightly support the seed germination of P. grandis. The negative effect of N deposition on seeds is indirect and acts in conjunction with the absence of management at localities.
