Hello Pilots,

On Wednesday, the National Mediation Board certified the election for representation and named the Airline Pilots Association Int’l (ALPA) as the bargaining agent for the pilots of JetBlue Airways. Following established protocols, ALPA has named interim representatives to create a governance structure for JetBlue pilots to address issues that may arise before electing your permanent ALPA representatives.

Membership Drive

In order to hold elections for permanent representatives, we must first become ALPA members. You should have already received a membership application, and we ask that you complete that as soon as possible. For your convenience, we have provided a link to the membership application here.

Simply fill out the application and return it via fax, e-mail, or U.S. mail as provided on the application. The sooner ALPA receives your application, the faster you can take advantage of the benefits ALPA provides. Acceptance of your membership application means you can participate in local council meetings, nominate and elect permanent local representatives and officers, provide direction on contract surveys, and be a part of other similar activities. Your participation and input to these key governance and negotiation membership privileges are essential for pilot group success. No dues obligations will begin until Aug. 1, 2014.

If you received this email and are not a Boston-based pilot, please understand that we are working with a mailing list that was generated during the organizing drive. This mailing list will be adjusted to include only Boston-based pilots based upon completed membership applications.

MEC Meeting

The first meeting of the JetBlue Airways ALPA MEC will take place on Monday, April 28th at 1:00PM at Spolini’s (116-25 Metropolitan Ave, Jamaica, NY) and will run until approximately 5:00PM followed by a reception for JetBlue pilots at 6:00PM. We encourage all pilots to attend this historic event.

Council 193 Boston Interim Representatives

Your interim representatives for Local Council 193 Boston are: Captain Representative: Christopher Kenney ([email protected]) Chris was hired into the A320 8.5 years ago. He became an E190 captain in 2008. Prior to JetBlue, he spent five years at and three years at Big Sky Airlines. Chris grew up in and lives in New Hampshire with his wife and three children.

First Officer Representative: Shawn Mercer ([email protected]) Shawn has been with JetBlue since 2011. Prior to working at JetBlue, Shawn was a Dash 8 Captain with Colgan Air. While working at Colgan, Shawn served on the merger committee in the three-way merger of Colgan, Pinnacle, and Mesaba. Shawn is a former active duty Marine and lives with his wife of ten years and son in the Seacoast of New Hampshire, where they are expecting their second child in June.

Secretary-Treasurer: John Costello ([email protected]) John was hired into the E190 in September 2006. Prior to JetBlue, he spent seven years at ExpressJet Airlines flying the ATR-42/72 and EMB-145 and three years of corporate flying the Merlin IIIB and Westwind. John graduated from Babson College with a BS in Entrepreneurial Studies and Management Information Systems. He lives south of Boston with his wife and two daughters.

We are all volunteers and active line pilots who are all very passionate about our careers and will continue the path that has brought us to this point: pilots organizing ourselves and using ALPA as a resource to help us secure our first Collective Bargaining Agreement.

We are proud to be your interim Local Executive Council, know that the Boston pilots will be well represented, and will continue to uphold the culture that we all have helped to build.

Warm regards,

Chris, Shawn, and John
