This study is divided into both an historic framing of the real and presumptive discoveries and in an analysis of the original data in light of our current knowledge of physics. An initial historic study, albeit partial, and with the aim of shedding light on the female personalities in the field of radioactivity, has already been done.2 Other scholars have examined Ştefania Mărăcineanu's work focusing on its social, political, cultural and ideological aspects.3 But no matter how much scientists try to be objective, they must always struggle between their beliefs and their human prejudices, including all of their habits of thought more or less imposed, and often inadvertently, by the society and the country in which they are formed.4 It will therefore be our task to take account of the difficulties hitherto reported, and for that it will be absolutely necessary to exercise judicial restraint. Radionuclides in the accelerator component, and in the cooling water and air at the target area, which are induced from primary beam and secondary particles, are simulated by FLUKA Monte Carlo code. It is found that radioactivity in the cooling water and air is not very important at the required beam intensity and energy that is needed for treatment, while radionuclides in the accelerator component may cause some problems for maintenance work and, therefore, a suitable cooling time is needed after the machine is shut down.     Cultural Trauma – The Case of the Winner1 ZOLTÁN BRETTER Politics in Central Europe (ISSN: 1801-3422) Vol. 16, No. 1S DOI: 10.2478/pce-2020-0004 Abstract: My study is an analysis of the emergence of the “Golden Dream” narrative in Romania, right after World War I. Along the way, I make some theoretical contributions to cultural trauma studies. ‘Winner’ and ‘loser’ are terms used to define fixed situations. Usually, only the loser (the victim, defeated) might suffer a trauma, while the occur‑ rence of trauma is denied for the winner (the perpetrator, victor). We shall dig a little deeper and wider, demonstrating that Romania, an overall winner of WWI, will face, right after victory, a ‘cultural shock’ which has to be repressed, as part of the “Golden Dream” narrative. Through a detailed, economic, social and political analysis, I’ll be trying to argue that a shattering trauma has engendered in Romanian society; yet an‑ other addition to a whole ‘traumatic history’. The ensuing orthodox ethno‑nationalism takes its root from this trauma. From time ‑to ‑time, we will take a comparative glance at the trauma of the loser, particularly when we will be discussing the omissions of an otherwise seamless narrative. Ethnoculturally and historically they share similarities but also differences which bring them closer, but also separate them from neighbouring peoples. Balkan Romanians’ physical and moral traits are differently perceived from one observer to another. For Byzantines, „Vlachs“ meant „barbarians“, namely those who didn’t speak, think or live like a Greek. Ever since Vlachs have been first mentioned in historical sources (approx. 850) until the Asanesti rebellion (1185), „the physical and moral portrait of Balkan Vlachs differs with each observer. Latin authors, especially Italians and Dalmatians, depicted them favourably, mainly highlighting their bellicose attributes and their pleasant appearance, sometimes associated to their Roman descent. On the contrary, they are often negatively perceived by their Balkan neighbours. This is not surprising at all: for Byzantines and Southern Slavics, endowed with their own states and cultures, the Vlach is „the other“, a foreigner refusing integration by asserting his own identity and even worse - often trying to establish his own state in an area they claimed“. The most common of these reactions involve neutrons: Neutron + Target Nuclide → Activation Product 3 General Important Applications/Issues Associated with Neutron Activation 1. Neutron Activation Analysis (NAA) This is an extraordinarily powerful technique for identifying and quantifying various elements (and nuclides) in a sample. 2. Neutron Fluence Rate (Flux) Measurements Neutron fluence rates in reactors or other neutron sources can be measured by exposing targets (e.g., metal foils) to the neutrons and measuring the induced activity. 4 General Important Applications/Issues Associated with Neutron Activation 3. Dosimetry Following Criticality Accidents The induced activity in objects or individuals following a criticality accident can be used to estimate the doses to these individuals. 4. Hazards from Induced Activity Induced radioactivity in the vicinity of intense neutron sources can constitute an exposure hazard. Examples of such sources include reactors, accelerators and, of course, nuclear explosions. 5 General Neutron Capture The most important reaction is neutron capture: Thermal neutrons are most likely to be captured. The target nuclide is usually, but not necessarily stable. If the product is radioactive, it is likely a beta emitter. The gamma ray, referred to as a prompt gamma or capture gamma, is typically of high energy. 6 General Neutron Capture Example: This is an exception to the generalization that the activation product is a beta emitter. Cr-51 decayyys by electron cap ture! The major prompt gamma rays: 749 keV produced 11.0% of the time 8512.1 keV produced 6.16% of the time 8484.0 keV produced 4.54% of the time 7 General Neutron-Proton Reaction Another potentially important reaction is the n-p reaction: The n-p reaction is most likely for fast neutrons and target nuclides with low atomic numbers.
