Pursuant to section 4 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975, His Excel lency the GovernorGeneral, acting by and with the advice and con sent of the Executive Council and on the advice of the Minister of Health, makes the following order.

Order 1 Title and commencement (1) This order may be cited as the Misuse of Drugs Order 1998.

(2) This order comes into force on 1 January 1999.

2 Schedule 3 of Act amended Clause 1 of Part 5 of Schedule 3 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975 is amended by inserting, in their appropriate alphabetical order, the names of the substances speciﬁed in the Schedule of this order.

3 Explanatory Note Misuse of Drugs Order 1998 1998/351

Explanatory Note This note is not part of this order, but is intended to indicate its gen eral effect. This order, which comes into force on 1 January 1999, adds listed benzodiazepines (a class of tranquilliser) to the list of Class C con trolled drugs speciﬁed in Part 5 of Schedule 3 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975. This change is considered by the Government to be ne cessary to comply fully with its international treaty obligations, as a party to the United Nations Convention on Psychotropic Substances 1971.
