Pursuant to section 4 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975, His Excel­ lency the Governor­General, acting by and with the advice and con­ sent of the Executive Council and on the advice of the Minister of Health, makes the following order.

Order 1 Title and commencement (1) This order may be cited as the Misuse of Drugs Order 1998.

(2) This order comes into force on 1 January 1999.

2 Schedule 3 of Act amended Clause 1 of Part 5 of Schedule 3 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975 is amended by inserting, in their appropriate alphabetical order, the names of the substances specified in the Schedule of this order.

3 Explanatory Note Misuse of Drugs Order 1998 1998/351

Explanatory Note This note is not part of this order, but is intended to indicate its gen­ eral effect. This order, which comes into force on 1 January 1999, adds listed (a class of tranquilliser) to the list of Class C con­ trolled drugs specified in Part 5 of Schedule 3 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975. This change is considered by the Government to be ne­ cessary to comply fully with its international treaty obligations, as a party to the United Nations Convention on Psychotropic Substances 1971.

Issued under the authority of the Acts and Regulations Publication Act 1989. Date of notification in Gazette: 19 November 1998. This order is administered in the Ministry of Health.
