MASI - books 413.367.2628 7am B 10pm my time PO BOX B [email protected] MONTAGUE MA 01351 11 CENTER ST (UPS) Catalog 209 B September, 2010 – Back to School well – another month, another masi catalog – just like my bills – more pages, more paper, a sustainable schedule? – late season in the veg garden – tomaters came on pretty well, nuff for sandwiches, tomato-basil sauce, gazpacho, canning – eggplant & pepper got about it too, so there’s been ratatouille & eggplant parmesan – corn stalks never got too big or green but produced nuff for eating & freezing & raccoons – yellow squash produced then succumbed to various insect invasions – zucchini best ever – think i finally gave each plant enough space to kick some butt – need any? – bean beetles cleaned house – not a bean, just skeleton leaves running up 12’ poles – ghostly – squash bugs rampant – pumpkin plants produced 4 before tossing in towel, acorn squash gave up, 1 medium hubbard, 0 buttercup, butternut staging late comeback & should yield small crop – escarole survived – basil for sauce & pesto for freezer – 2 rows of carrot – yet to dig 3 rows of potatoes – 3 or 4 kale plants coming round – starvation unlikely – winter fare may be eclectic – gotta make some time for more canning & freezing & digging taters - many compliments on sunflower border – musta got 12’ high & loaded with flowers – got to dole orchards in colrain yesterday & picked bushel of macs for sixteen bucks – such a deal – spare time? – try to swim or bike through montague plains, along turners falls power canal & back along Connecticut river or jog over taylor hill – zach in second hospital rotation – pediatrics at st christopher’s in north Philadelphia – he’s happy – late summer hurdles cleared - montague old home days party with help from edie, papermania showing some signs of economic stress, usual cdv encampment – gotta shine the gavel for mariab meeting week from today on cape – pack for great eastern in Allentown on October 2 & 6 th annual pioneer valley book & ephemera fair in Northampton on October 17 – sponsored by mariab – may produce 210 before that if paperseller we can stay motivated – no shortage of new stock from recent Elizabeth & knotty pine & oliver auction of green estate in Worcester, buying at papermania, etcetera - meantime let’s get this to eagle & into your hands with hopes of a sale – at your service – peter cover: item 389 1 (Agriculture) F.W.
