Day 1

Arrival in Oslo

Arrival into Oslo, where your driver will meet you outside of baggage claim to take you to your hotel.

Exeter International Extraordinary Experience This morning, your driver will meet you in your hotel lobby for a transfer to the pier, where you will meet your captain. Enjoy a day sailing on the deep waters of the Oslofjord in search of the perfect fishing spot. Your captain will provide you with fishing equipment and great information on the fish schooling this time of year.

Enjoy the remainder of your day at leisure.

Meet your guide and driver for a visit to the town of Drøbak and nearby .

Start with a drive to Drøbak, a seaside town filled with colorful wooden houses. Named for the beautiful area’s hills rising away from the coastline, Drøbak was once the winter port for Oslo when the Oslofjord froze over in the colder months. The town fiercely protects its historical structures allowing visitors a unique look at a traditional Norwegian fishing port.

After exploring Drøbak, take a short to the Oscarsborg Fortress. A perfect adventure for children, visitors can explore the subterranean tunnels under the fortress, walk along the beach in search of crabs, or run one of the obstacle courses.

Oslo to Copenhagen

Your driver will meet you in your hotel lobby for your transfer to the airport for your departing flight.

Upon arrival into Copenhagen, you will be welcomed by your private driver who will transfer you to your hotel in the heart of the city.

Upon check-in you will be presented with your 3-Day Copenhagen Cards. These cards give you free or reduced admission to most sights in the city.

We recommend using your cards this evening to visit Tivoli Gardens.

Today your guide will take you to see Amalienborg Palace. The Palace is actually four identical buildings situated around a central square. The buildings were originally built for Noblemen but after a fire at Christiansborg, the king moved into Amalienborg and it has been home to the royalty ever since. During your visit, you will have the opportunity to see the monarchy’s studies and salons with their personal items displayed just as they left them. There is also a display of the royal’s clothing from various weddings and other significant events.

For children, Hannibal the elephant can be found throughout the displays and makes for a great game for the children to discover his whereabouts.

Later on in the day your guide will take you to the Round Tower. This is Europe’s oldest functioning observatory. The tower was built by King Christian IV in the mid-1600s as part of the Trinity Complex. The tower features a spiral ramp twisting up to the top of the tower reaching over 120 feet. Once at the top, one has unparalleled views of the city in 360 degrees.

Afterwards visit Rosenborg Castle, the fantastic fairy tale summer residence that Christian IV built from 1603- 1634, and that today holds the famous crown jewels. Your guide will take you through the castle and the Treasury. Even today, ’s royalty visit the Treasury to select jewelry to wear for formal events.

This morning your guide and driver will meet you for a journey to , one of Denmark’s oldest cities. More than 1000 years ago, the established a trading post that developed into a major town. In the medieval period, Roskilde was one of the most important cities of northern Europe, the seat of the Danish crown and an Episcopal residence

Visit the Viking Ship located on the waterfront of the beautiful Roskilde . Its existence results from the local discovery of five ancient Viking boats, now restored and on display in the museum. You will have the opportunity to watch boat builders working on the reconstruction of a 30-meter-long Viking warship.

Later you will board a replica Viking boat for an afternoon sail on the Roskilde Fjord. You will have the chance to man the oars or set the sails if you wish.

Note: All services today are on foot. Please wear appropriate footwear. Should you become tired at any time, your guide can hire a taxi for you, payable locally.

From Roskilde you may wish to visit the Lejre Land of Legend, a short drive away. Here you will have the opportunity to see a reconstruction of an Iron Age community which was built using the same tools and techniques from 200 years ago. You can partake in pottery making, corn grinding, and other communal activities.

Today your guide will take you on a food tour of the city. In the past few years, there has been a real interest in Nordic cuisine. Copenhagen has numerous Michelin star restaurants.

You will start at Torvehallerne, the new covered market halls, where you will sample artisan cheese, developed in collaboration with the city’s Michelin-starred chefs. Try liquorice, caramels and preserves from some of the most interesting small producers.

Later you will explore the city, and wander through Copenhagen Botanical Gardens relaxing in the beautiful green surroundings while discussing produce and local foods.

Along the way you will also pass several of the city’s greatest landmarks and discuss its history, but always with food as focus. Exclusive to this tour you will try the open sandwiches called smørrebrød as well as a microbrewery where you will sample three different types of home-brewed beer while the children will be provided with a child-friendly beverage.

The most classic and un-missable street food in Copenhagen is a hotdog, which is served in a gourmet version, even with a vegan alternative if so desired.

You will end at Torvehallerne again, which is very central, and you will have a chance to explore further on your own, not to mention do some shopping. So make sure you leave yourself plenty of time to explore the city and its food after the tour. Tastings may vary according to season and supply.

All 153 rooms have been recently renovated. The rooms offer air conditioning which can control the temperature between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius. You will be greeted in the brand-new reception and lobby area. The new Bar Boman is the perfect place to relax and the new fitness studio means you can stay fit while traveling.

Superior rooms: These rooms start from 250 square feet. The rooms have a king-size bed and additionally offer two armchairs and a coffee table. No two rooms are alike, with interiors ranging from classical furniture and fabrics to more modern designs. All the rooms are of top-class standard and are prefect for leisure travelers.

The Skt. Petri is a luxury hotel in Copenhagen’s Latin Quarter. The hotel has 270 spacious rooms including 27 luxury suites, designed in a modern, classic style. The building itself has an interesting history. Originally, it was a very popular department store built by architect Vilhelm Lauritzen in 1928 with all the beautiful architectural lines and characteristic curves of functionalism. This unique design hotel also home to an excellent restaurant and popular bar. All rooms feature contemporary Danish design, broadband internet access, wood floors, and air-conditioning.

Superior Rooms: Superior Rooms feature approximately 300 square feet of space and either one king bed or two twin beds.

Exeter International’s local offices are available for your assistance 24 hours per day while you are traveling. Our local staff may also assist you with restaurant reservations and purchasing of additional theater and museum tickets at your request.

Transportation Transportation is included as noted. Unless otherwise noted, all transfer service is with a driver only, not a guide. In general, drivers have limited English-speaking skills. Timing for each day is noted in your program.

Exeter International Travel Information BAGGAGE The vehicles reserved for your itinerary can accommodate up to two medium-sized suitcases per person. If you intend to travel with additional luggage, please advise your travel consultant so appropriate arrangements may be made. In general, we schedule a sedan for parties of two, a minivan for parties of three to four, and a minibus for parties of five or more.

SIGHTSEEING Sightseeing arrangements have been made with your special interests in mind. Your drivers and guides are at your disposal as indicated in the itinerary. Within those time and mileage guidelines, you are free to modify your program as you please. Should you require additional time or mileage, the costs will be quoted on request and may be paid for locally in the local currency or U.S. Dollars.

Every effort has been made to confirm that scheduled sightseeing venues will be open at the time you plan to visit them. However, individual estates, , gardens and other points of interest can change their hours of operation at short notice. In the event that a particular attraction is closed on the day or time of your visit, your guide will offer alternative arrangements or rearrange your sightseeing to accommodate these unexpected events.

OPTIONAL EXPENSES Charges for extra meals, transport, sightseeing services or other optional additions to your established itinerary are your responsibility and must be paid locally in the local currency.

GRATUITIES Gratuities are not included in your tour price. Suggested gratuities will be in your final documents.

DINING WITH YOUR GUIDE On days when dinner and lunch costs have not been included in your itinerary (or in your tour cost), you may, at your discretion, choose to invite your guide to dine with your party. You are under no obligation to do so but, if you do extend such an invitation, the guide is your guest and you will be responsible for the cost of his/her meal.

Booking Conditions PAYMENTS Exeter International must receive a deposit of 25% of the total program cost before reservations for your independent travel program can be initiated. The balance of payment is due 60 days prior to departure. No reservations are made on your behalf until this deposit has been received. Availability and pricing is subject to change until this deposit is received. All deposits are nonrefundable.

CANCELLATION Written cancellations received fewer than 60 days prior to departure are subject to the following forfeit of tour cost:  59–14 days prior to departure, 50% of total tour cost  14 or fewer days prior to departure, 100% of tour cost

REFUNDS We regret that refunds cannot be issued for arrangements confirmed on your itinerary but unused once your tour has begun.

INSURANCE Exeter International strongly recommends the purchase of travel insurance to protect your investment. You will find insurance costs noted on your invoice and insurance coverage information in your original booking packet.

PRICES AND ARRANGEMENTS Once an itinerary is finalized and final payment has been made, a $100 revision fee will be charged if the itinerary is changed.

The tour price includes planning, handling and operational charges. Rates are quoted in U.S. Dollars on the current rate of exchange and tariff as of 2020. Exeter International reserves the right to increase tour prices to cover increased costs, tariffs and taxes, and to reflect fluctuations in foreign exchange markets. Devaluation of a foreign currency will be weighed against any tariff increases imposed. Exeter International does not breakdown costs involved in any Small Group or Individual Travel Program.

All arrangements are subject to availability and modification if necessary. Prices are subject to change if necessary until paid in full.
