EAR L A S SMATE S — merit o f t D C , The only this repor is f that so many o you desired it . It was begun soon after o ur thirtieth anniversary , and I soon discovered that your interest was to hear from others and not to communicate your own doings . Nevertheless I have kept on with it , and as it may help us to keep closer in touch with one another , I hope you will think it worth while . It is still incomplete . There are several memorial sketches that should be prepared and several classmates are still to be heard from , but it seems best to wait no longer and to ask you to receive it as it is , with that generous consideration for your class secretary which you have so often shown . One word should be stated in regard to the finances o f - the class . Our twenty fifth anniversary was necessarily expensive . Some who subscribed substantial sums to the Class o f 1 880 Fund expressed the wish that if the total o f subscriptions should exceed the requirements fo r the pro posed gifts to the college , any balance shou ld be added to the Class Fund , which of course finally passes to the college . In accordance with this authority , therefore , the balance has been so treated .

Yours sincerely ,

JOH N WOODB U RY .

- became a practicing lawyer , probably feeling that his real abilities could be put to better use in other , though allied , directions . Possessed of ample means , he stead - o n fastly refused to become a mere idler and looker . The f list o Official positions he occupied in business , charitable , literary , educational , and social organizations in Cincinnati and elsewhere is too long to state , even if at this time Sufli c e obtainable . it to say that to each and every one Of them he gave the best that was in him , and that the value o f his service was in every instance Openly recognized and o f gladly appreciated by those most capable judging . In 1 898 he became a Director of the Central Trust and Safe i Deposit Company , the Oldest organization of its k nd in Ohio ; in 1 901 he was made its President and continued as f such until his death . Seldom can it be said o any man that the place he was called upon to fill in the practical affairs of life was the o ne he was exactly fitted by nature to ’ occupy . The above , however , may truly be said of Davis connection with this corporation . He was justly proud f o the success he made , and loved the work he was called W upon to do . hen his health began to fail , his hardest o f trial , next to the thought leaving family and friends , was the thought o f surrendering the work to which his best efforts had been devoted . Though physically strong and robust beyond the average , he began to fail as years went o f by . He knew for a long time before his death the aneu rism o f the heart which finally was fatal ; he knew that his end might come at any moment . He manfully tried his best to live . The final stroke was sudden and unexpected 1 7 to all except , probably , himself . He died November ,

1 9 1 0 . His attractive personality , his true friendships for those he really was fond Of , his unfailing courtesy to all , his kindness and consideration for those under his control , and his sincere enthusiasm and devotion to Objects he

t . deemed worthy , were known o all
