61 Holidays in Buildings of Historic Importance

A foundation is bringing together tourism and the conservation of historical monuments. Switzerland’s vibrant past is evident in its large number of buildings of architectural importance. As witnesses of a bygone era, they bring history back to life and pass it on to future generations. The “Holidays in Buildings of Historic Importance” foundation established by the Swiss Heritage Society has been making historic properties available to the public as holiday accommodation since 2005.

There are many buildings in remote communities that are affected by migration to the cities, such as the Türalihus in Valendas, Graubünden. These valuable legacies of our past are now being preserved and are attractive retreats for guests seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

The list of properties that the foundation has to offer is constantly growing. It ranges from the traditional Huberhaus Alpine log house in Valais, a Strickbau log house dating back to the 16th century, and a half-timbered house on the shores of Lake Zurich dating back to the 18th century to an industrial villa in La Chaux-de-Fonds dating back to the 19th century.
