  • Things to Do at the Villa / in Chorao
Things to do at the villa / in Chorao o Just laze around the house (you have been working too hard in life, you have come away from family and children, tired of those demanding bosses, fed up of those polluted and fast pace cities?? – its time to take a break from it all – JUST RELAX!!!. o Spend time beside the pool, have a few beers and chill out. o Read a book from the villa library. Get some local feni and try that out on a sunny afternoon. o Walk around the island in the evenings – meet the villagers and unknown people (something you will not be able to do in Bombay or London). o You love photography? take a walk around the island for bird watching (remember you will be living in the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary). Also behind the villa, on the hill or in the fields if you are lucky you may spot peacocks, kingfisher birds, cranes and other migratory bird species. o Walk up to the hill top hiking for pure photography thrills at ‘Krist Rei Statue of Christ the King’. Legend has it that a stolen statue of Christ the King mysteriously appeared overnight on this hilltop in Chorao; a worthwhile hike for aerial views of Goa’s skyline. You have beautiful views from the top of all the rivulets, Old Goa, Divar Island, Panjim, etc. This is the only point one can stand and see 3 talukas of Goa (Tiswadi, Bicholim & Bardez). http://the-shooting-star.com/2014/09/02/offbeat-goa-12-mind- blowing-experiences/ o Play games.

  • By Shri. Sudhir Kerkar, Director, DIP Goa, the Tiny State of Indian
CELEBRATING SIX GLORIOUS DECADES OF GOA’S LIBERATION - By Shri. Sudhir Kerkar, Director, DIP Goa, the tiny State of Indian Union which attained liberation from the clutches of Colonial Portuguese Rule is now celebrating 60th year of its liberation starting from December 19, 2020 to December 19, 2021. To mark the commencement of this momentous occasion the Head of the nation, Shri. Ramnath Kovind is arriving in Goa on December 19, 2020. It was on December 19, 1961 that the Portuguese Governor General of Goa Manuel António Vassalo e Silva – in a formal ceremony held at 8.30 p.m. in Panaji – signed the instrument of surrender of all Portuguese soldiers in Goa, Daman and Diu. This brought to an end 451 years of Portuguese colonial rule in India. It ended the last vestige of colonialism on Indian soil, making India’s independence complete. The Portuguese were driven out 14 years after India gained independence from the British, and seven years after France ceded control of Pondicherry and its other territories to India. The fact is that the unfortunate colonial phase in India’s history both started and ended with Goa. This was the very first colony of any western European power in India. The Portuguese conquistadore Afonso de Albuquerque captured the Island of Goa (now known as Tiswadi taluka) on 25 November 1510, as many as 16 years before the Emperor Babar, founder of the Mughal dynasty, conquered Delhi on 21 April 1526. ..2/- ..2.. It is instructive to note that Britain’s actual annexation of India began as late as 1757, after its victory in the Battle of Plassey.

  • Anjuna Beach, Goa
Anjuna Beach, Goa The Beach at Anjuna is famous for its night parties and water sports A charming façade of the quaint blue sea on one side and picturesque palm trees on the other, shelters the sunset sands of Anjuna Beach. The powdered white sands lined with red laterite rocks give the beach its characteristic rocky formation. This formation, called the Ozran juts out into the Arabian Sea and is known as the Jewel of Anjuna. It lies between the Anjuna Beach and the Vagator Beach. For years, this formation has attracted the eyes of travelers and geologists alike. Anjuna, in spite of being just a seaside village continues to attract the attention of travelers even today, not just because of its elegant rock formation but also its history. The 1950s and 60s saw the liberating Hippie Movement that freed Western youngsters from the shackles of narrow capitalism and encouraged them to be one with nature and self. Anjuna was one of the key places where this movement gained prominence. History records that this village was first discovered by a group of these Hippie travelers that included Eight Finger Eddie, among others. Rave parties with trance music filled the serene beach air at night while days were spent tripping on drugs and alcohol. Other beaches of Goa soon followed suit. The times have since passed, but even now Anjuna is one of the most popular party spots in the world. Each year, foreigners from round the world come over to this small seaside village for its full moon parties. Trance music coupled with rave parties dominate the week of Christmas to New Year, beckoning the traveler to all sorts of forbidden pleasures.

Coastal Property Resources in Goa – Alarming Trends Dr. Sairam Bhat Assistant Professor of Law, National Law School of India University, Bangalore and Ms. Smita Srivastava Sr. Lecturer, Saraswath College, Maupsa, Goa If you want a piece of Goa's coastline, follow three simple steps. Just grab the land, build on it(after making pretences that your structures are temporary) and then forget it. 1 Introduction Tourism in Goa has largely been and still remains ‘Beach tourism’. The beaches in Goa have been exploited to the hilt. Over 90% of domestic tourists and 99% of international tourists visit and reside along the beach front. 2 The packaging of Goa as a major international tourist destination is still actively underway, even though the number of tourists visiting Goa has exceeded the region’s carrying capacity, bringing about a steady and relentless degradation of the natural environment as well as a deterioration of the social and cultural fabric. Tourism, now is Goa’s Primary Industry. It handles 12% of all foreign tourist arrivals in India. Goa receives more tourists per annum than its total residential population (refer T.No.1, as per govt. sources, the population of Goa for the year 08-09 was 13.48 lakhs)3 The decisive issue facing any tourism destination is the benefit – cost ratio. This has never been calculated in the State. Destruction of the environment on the scale occurring in Goa can only be justified if the returns from any industry are such that they lead to enhancement of prosperity, provision of employment and reduction of poverty levels, since poverty is described as the greatest threat to environmental protection.
