Pilbara The PDC is working to make the Pilbara a great place to do business, build a career, raise a family and invest long into Development the future through the delivery of two key strategic initiatives: Commission (PDC) 1. Pilbara Cities Initiative – delivery of a $1.7 billion program to revitalise the region by creating modern, liveable towns and cities.

2. Pilbara Regional Investment Blueprint – a roadmap to 2050 outlining the priority economic development areas, such as tourism aquaculture and energy, that will create long term sustainable economic growth.

To support the delivery of these initiatives, the Commission works together with government, business and not-for-profit organisations as the catalyst for positive growth and development. This includes:

• conducting research to fill knowledge gaps on regional issues such as accommodation, education and industry development

• attracting investment to the region for new industries and businesses

• assisting proponents navigate regulatory pathways to fast-track investment and development

• ensuring there is an adequate level of community and economic infrastructure, and social services to support regional growth and development

Business Centre Based in Karratha, the BCP provides a broad range of services supporting people and businesses through a number of Pilbara (BCP) programs including:

1. Warlu Way tourism small business support and development for North West WA activation program. Funded by the Australian Government to 2019, the program engages local people across the Pilbara and works with them as a business intender or new small business to get them to the point of trading successfully as a new tourism enterprise

2. Business establishment and development support encompassing:

• All aspects of business set up to exit

• Accessing specialised and targeted services, programs and systems

• One on one support, workshops, referrals

• Programs and services including (but not limited to) finance, marketing, business planning, Pulse Checks, mentoring, grant applications, websites, resources, licensing and registrations (business related)

3. Business Enterprise Hub – scheduled for commencement in 2017, the Hub (located in Karratha) will offer co-work and office space, support services and programs to assist small business and the broader community

Although each of these programs are located in Karratha, opportunities to access these services in Onslow are being explored with the OCCI

The Buurabalayji The Buurabalayji Thalanyji Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC is highly active in terms of economic, social and Thalanyji environmental development within and beyond Onslow and owns, part-owns, and operates a number of businesses in Aboriginal and around Thalanyji determined land. Chevron • Ongoing engagement with OCCI for a normalisation process

• Chevron’s vision for the Wheatstone LNG plant’s operations phase is to continue contributing to a sustainable and diverse local economy capable of supporting the company’s long-term operational objectives through:

• Increasing Onslow business contracting opportunities through assisting local suppliers to meet Chevron technical and safety requirements

• Developing local business capability by supporting the development of supplier opportunities into the operations phase, and

• Providing business development support via a partnership with the OCCI to facilitate the establishment and development of local businesses

• Through ProjectConnect, Chevron is now able to encourage the larger contractors to seriously consider using locally based businesses to potentially deliver efficiencies and reductions in costs as we proceed into operations

Real REFAP employment support primarily through: Employment for Aboriginal 1. Community Development Program (CDP) by working with job seekers, organisations, employers, community People (REFAP) members and stakeholders to build stronger communities by increasing employment in remote areas 2. Labour hire for a wide range of white and blue collar jobs with supply of capable and trained Indigenous and non- Indigenous people on a fee-for-service basis

Many Rivers • Journey based free business development and support program assisting aspiring business owners with microenterprise development and access to finance

• Access to finance for set up (Business loans through Westpac – guaranteed by Many Rivers)

Industry ePilbara - the Pilbara Business Capability Register (www.epilbara.com.au), showcases Pilbara companies with Capability capabilities to provide products and services to the resource, construction and other sectors within the Pilbara region of Network WA WA (ICNWA)
