Harriton House is open to the public, presenting history in dynamic ways to an audience of all ages. Through its classes for school children, community gardens, beekeeping operations, craftsmanship classes, and other interpretive programs, Harriton brings into focus and puts into historical perspective our attitudes toward the land that we plant, the foods that we eat, and the tools that we use—the ways in which we live. It makes real and constructive our relationships with our history. Walter Staib, City Tavern, and “A Taste of History” Walter Staib is the chef/proprietor of Philadelphia’s City Tavern, whose primary mission is to interpret and deliver a culinary experience inspired by the customs and foods of 18th-century Colonial America. The Epicurean Extravaganza will feature samples of such fare, as seen on Chef Staib’s Emmy Award-winning television series, A Taste of History, and documented in his most recent book, City Tavern: Recipes from the Birthplace of American Cuisine. Episodes of A Taste of History have been filmed at Harriton House. .
