BGC Partners is a pioneering global brokerage company serving the financial services and real estate markets delivering world-class products to our diverse customer base on a daily basis. Our Financial Services business provides a full range of trade execution and broker-dealer services. WHAT IS CHARITY DAY? Charity Day is held every year on 11 September, or the closest working day to it, in memory of the 658 colleagues lost in the World Trade Centre attacks in 2001. It is a day on which we commemorate those no longer with us by raising funds for charitable works worldwide. HOW DO WE RAISE THE MONEY? All BGC revenues worldwide on Charity Day, together with those of our sister companies GFI, Aurel, RP Martin and Sunrise Brokers are donated to selected charities, as are all broker commissions for the day. HOW DOES THE DAY WORK IN THE UK? Usually the UK Charity Day takes place at the BGC and GFI London offices with celebrity ambassadors visiting the trading floors throughout the day and meeting the 1000 brokers working there. Celebrity ambassadors that attend on behalf of the charities are invited to take part in trades by speaking to clients over the phone. Due to the global pandemic, Charity Day 2020 was held virtually with celebrity ambassadors taking part in video calls with our brokers and clients. It is likely Charity Day 2021 will be hosted virtual once again, but we are keeping a close eye on the evolving government guidelines and hope by September we will be able to welcome a small number of guests to our Canary Wharf office. WHAT IS EXPECTED OF THE CELEBRITY AMBASSADORS? We request that each celebrity ambassador: - dials into our Virtual Green Room for approximatley 1 hour between 8am - 5pm on Friday 10 September - takes part in video calls with clients hosted by us (for 5 minute cheery chats) - takes part in internal interviews (please see our Charity Day videos for examples) - uses their own social media platforms to promote the Charity they are supporting as well as the BGC Charity Day in the run up to and on the day itself by tweeting, re-tweeting, following and sharing etc. - takes part in interviews with selected media present on the day (if they are happy to do so) WHAT ABOUT THE NON-CELEBRITY ATTENDEES? The BGC Charity Day is a fun day. We very much enjoy welcoming our charities and their beneficiaries to our offices, however it may not be possible this year. We would like to encourage the selected charities to still get involved with the event virtually by joining in with video calls, sending good luck messages, internal interviews and supporting the event on social media channels. HOW ARE THE DONATIONS CALCULATED? The Charity Day donations are allocated by BGC’s senior management. Many factors are taken into account from the annual revenue of the charity to the way in which the charity and their celebrity ambassadors engage with the day. It is BGC’s aim to distribute the Charity Day donations within 12 months of each Charity Day by way of either cash or stock transfer..

BACKGROUND 1.1 On 2nd May 2016, Chelsea FC played Tottenham Hotspur FC in a Premier League match at Stamford Bridge. The outcome of the match was potentially of great significance to the race to become Premier League champions for the 2015/16 season; anything other than a win for Tottenham would confirm Leicester City FC as champions. And so it proved to be; Tottenham were 2-0 up at half-time, but Chelsea scored two second half goals to draw the match 2-2. 1.2 The game was ill-tempered and at times threatened to get out of control. The match referee, Mark Clattenburg, issued nine cautions to Tottenham players, a Premier League record for a single match, and three to Chelsea. Riggs School of Social Work Flinders University GPO Box 2100 Adelaide South Australia 5001 [email protected] Clemence Due School of Psychology The University of Adelaide South Australia 5001 [email protected] Keywords: accusations of racism, race privilege, celebrity big brother Abstract The 2007 UK series of Celebrity Big Brother drew considerable attention to Britain as a result of the alleged racist bullying of Bollywood film star Shilpa Shetty by four British celebrity housemates. At stake in these allegations was any perception that Britain as a country promotes inclusivity and discourages racism. In this paper we examine, through an analysis of the exit interviews conducted with the four housemates in question, how accusations of racism were made by the host of Big Brother, and how racism was almost made to disappear in the interviews. Specifically, we elaborate how racism was constructed not simply as an individual aberration, but more precisely as a matter of perception. We then explore how the host of the interviws avoided making accusations of racism herself by implying that it was others who perceived the behaviours of the housemates as racist, and by using other words (such as ‘bullying’) rather than explicitly referring to racism. We conclude by outlining the implications of our findings for future discursive research on racism, and we emphasise the need to further explore how rhetorical strategies aimed at denying racism operate in the service of shoring up privileged identities.     Ofcom Content Sanctions Committee Consideration of sanction against Channel Four Television Corporation in respect of its service Channel 4. 1 For Breaches of the Ofcom Broadcasting Code: • Rule 2.3 – Broadcasters must when applying generally accepted standards ensure that material which may cause offence is justified by the context; and • Rule 1.3 – Children must also be protected by appropriate scheduling from unsuitable material. Dowling is shown here stepping from the relaxed luxury of 24-hour surveillance – don’t try to restrain yourself, because you’ll be on camera anyway – to media property. He is already disoriented at discovering 120 cameramen jostling to photograph him as Big Brother presenter Davina McCall is trying to steer him in a different direction, towards a TV studio couch. Within hours, Brian’s packaging will have begun. Advised properly, he will find in future that every photo opportunity is ‘managed’ and has a specific objective. It will either be to promote him – I’m dippy, cheerful, always kindly – or to promote the product or venue by which he has been hired. Don’t expect to see Brian in public again looking lost, unkempt or carrying his own baggage.
