With its rocks, woods, lovely lake and bracing air, Kodaikanal is an ideal hill resort for the tourists. Geographical locations of kodaikannal lake is situated at 10 deg 14' n latitude and 77 deg 28' longitude at an elevation of 2285m above sea level and it looks magnificent with star shaped glittering water, in the midst of evergreen lush slopes. The hills receive the rainfall during North-East Monsoon months of October, November and December. The tourist from kerala state and people from district have to perform a long journey to reach kodaikanal through the existing Laz Ghat road.All these roads are congested due to heavy traffic both up hill and down hill causing hardship for the Tourist during summer vacation and half season periods, There are several accidents due to inadequate carriage way , under these circumstances an Alternate rout to kodaikanal is felt importance by connecting Periyaklam and Kodaikanal in shortest way with 20km length savings from periyakulam. Also the existing traffic through laz ghat (SH 156) will considerable reduce.

Hence it is felt to improve the existing Ghat road from Periyakulam – Kodaikanal road (via) Kumbakarai , Adukkam to Proper Geometry is viable at lesser cost the widening of the existing Ghat road to proper standards and relaying some of the stretches from Periyakulam to Kodaikanal for the people from Theni and Kerala . On completion of this Project this will facilitate Agricultural transportation, school and college in and around kodaikanal, and improve the social economic development of the Adukam , Somankattupallam ,Kumbakarai, Palamalai villages and save considerable travel time., for which permission from the forest Department required.
