Parlo dalla tomba a preferenza che a viva voce, e per una buona ragione: che in tal modo posso parlare liberamente. Quando uno scrive un libro intorno ai casi della propria vita - un libro che si leggerà mentr'egli ancora vive - gli ripugna di parlare con piena franchezza; tutti i tentativi in questo senso falliscono: egli riconosce che sta cercando di fare qualcosa che è completamente impossibile ad essere umano. Il prodotto più sincero, più franco e più intimo della mente e del cuore umano è una lettera d'amore: sapere che nessun estraneo vedrà ciò che vi si dice dà a chi la scrive una illimitata libertà di espressione. Ogni tanto si vien meno a una promessa di matrimonio, e quando si vede una propria lettera sui giornali ci si trova tremendamente a disagio e si capisce che non si sarebbe mai aperto il proprio cuore in tale onesta e ampia misura se si fosse saputo di scrivere per il pubblico. Non che nella lettera si ravvisi qualche cosa di non vero, di poco onesto e non degno di rispetto; ma non importa: si sarebbe stati molto più riservati se si fosse saputo di scrivere per il pubblico. Mi è sembrato di poter essere franco e spontaneo e disinvolto come una lettera d'amore, sapendo che ciò che scrivevo non sarebbe stato esibito ad occhio umano prima che fossi morto, e perciò ignaro e indifferente.

Albert Einstein (…) Gli apparve davanti uno spettacolo di rara bellezza, un panorama da rallegrare l’occhio e mozzare il fiato… (…) Potrai cercare in ogni dove della terra, non troverai da alcuna parte uno scrigno prezioso come questo… (…) Anziché essere un corpo di case fosse stata una donna, Polignano mi avrebbe portato via il marito e lui si sarebbe fatto tranquillamente rapire. (Dai brani: “Polignano ieri e Polignano oggi”) Presentazione Con estremo piacere mi accingo a scrivere queste poche righe di presentazione della nuova ‘fatica letteraria’ di Carlo De Luca, il quale da anni ci offre i suoi Diorama, frutto di ricerca instancabile e contemporaneamente di quell’abnegazione che trova le sue radici nell’amore del De Luca verso la cultura in ogni sua forma. Questa volta è la forma del romanzo. Il vento caldo delle Murge, infatti, è un inedito di Vito Errico, scritto con la sapienza di chi sa coniugare i dialoghi serrati alle coinvolgenti descrizioni di paesaggi. Una scelta, quella del De Luca, fatta per farci conoscere un autore. Per farci conoscere un testo che ha il pregio di unire il vero al verosimile e io, direi con Manzoni, l’utile al dilettevole ovvero questa capacità evidente, scorrendo le pagine del romanzo di Errico, di saper intrattenere l’immaginazione nostra e parimente di saper suscitare riflessioni e confronti tra il passato, qui descritto, e il presente nel quale noi viviamo, tanto da provare la forte impressione che, pur cambiando nomi e volti, la realtà sostanzialmente resti la stessa, allora come oggi.
