Ufcrru We Have Tried to Be As Accurate As Possible with the Names, Dates and Facts Collected in This Book ufcrru We have tried to be as accurate as possible with the names, dates and facts collected in this book. Please realize that with the amount of material we received, no one person or group of people could have proofread all the copy and catch all the errors. With some copy, we adhered to the original spelling, realizing that in the original documents names were spelled two and three different ways. We look upon this book as the beginning of our family's written history. History books change as the times change and we expect that what is written here will be changed also as time passes. Please make any corrections you feel necessary in your own copy. It is a humiliating thought that men are usually forgotten in so few years, even by their descendants. In life they have done their part, the same as we do, and perhaps they have lived to a good age, still, in a few short years, it seems that nothing is left of them to trace. It is hoped that this history will awaken interest in our family history and that more and better records will be kept in the years to come. Daniel Webster said: "He who careth not from whence he came, careth little whither he goeth." The early pioneers who came to America were the "strong and the brave; only the brave started and only the strong got here." In coming to America, these pioneers broke away from their old ties, their relatives, neighbors and homeland. They were possessed of heart and consciences of an honest nature and a desire to establish a home in a free country. They developed along with the deep love of freedom, a love and compassion for their fellow-men. They learned to help each other in clearing and building; in birth and illness; in marriage and death. They rendered mankind a priceless service, and those who come after them and enjoy the fruits of their labors should never tire in honoring their memory. ***** To the many who have contributed over the years to make this compilation possible, I wish to express deep appreciation and thanks. Special recognition should be given to David Sodrel of Tobinsport Ind.; Doris Leistner of Tell City Ind., Charles T. Burton of Troutville, VA. Aunt Emma Terry and her son John Terry who are the printers of the History Book, Janesville, Wl. My son Arlen and his wife Dorothy who have taken me to the many states where the ancestors have lived. Correspondence and travels in search of Data have added not only to new names and date of the lineages, but also valued friendships, interesting experiences and much in "family background" to me. I hope I have reported them as accurately as possible. New resources may be available to future family genealogists, overlooked records may be discovered, and new contacts made with other descendants, may their enjoyment be as great as mine. / / 7 U-- -, d 3 / — 2- / TABLE OF CONTENTS Title 1 Mark - Mary Terry - Family Pictures 51 Dedication 2 Children of Marquis & Mary Terry 52 Table of Contents 3 M. Rather a lot has been happening in Woodie world since we last had our cosy little chats, some wonderful, some very sad. However we kick off on an upbeat note. I won’t go into detail here regarding our June 5th show at London’s Borderline, you will find a review elsewhere within these pages, along with an interview I conducted with the main man, Gene Terry, a true Swamp Rock legend from those Texas, Louisiana borders, whom TFTW flew over for his first ever appearance outside the United States. What a show it proved to be, certainly a Wow factor beginning at show-time and continuing through to when we had to say "Goodnight". Tired? Yes. Elated? You bet. It was like riding on a cushion of air. As always I have to offer a massive thank you to all the artists, musicians, DJ, MC, and the front line Woodies who all helped to make it go seemingly without a hitch for fans who travelled from all corners of the UK along with parts of the European mainland, on this occasion even from far afield as Lithuania.

There are Literally hundreds upon hundreds of great titles. If you would like to order from this newsletter you can email, phone or post an order. If phoning please feel free to call after hours From 8.00am up until 7.00pm is fine. I have a couple of pieces of bad news. Firstly my dear mum, Rose Reid, passed away on February 23rd. Many knew her as she worked Wednesdays at the old Parramatta store from 1990-2000 and filled in when I went on buying trips. It has been a trying period but I can honestly say she loved her time in the shop especially meeting and talking to many fine people and was a keen music buff, something that has passed on through the genes. Secondly, we lost a dear friend in Norm Pyne. Many who went to the Parramatta store would have seen a blind guy getting round with only a cane. My admiration for Norm was limitless. I never considered him handicapped in any way and he was always thankful for his independence. It is a sad irony of life that it is probably this independence which saw him involved in an horrific accident which cost him his life.

Ewing, Ph.D. 3 4 1808 AMERICAN FUR CO. [1808-1834] The American Fur Company was the first organized company to influence the economic growth of Northwest Ottawa County, the entire Grand Valley, and other vast areas across the country. Started in Astoria, Oregon, the company was founded by John Jacob Astor in 1808 to compete with the Canadian fur companies. Astor’s operation in the Great Lakes was carried on under a subsidiary called the South West Company. The American Fur Company was reorganized in 1817, and in 1834 Astor left the business and new owners took over. The first trader Astor appointed to the Northwest Ottawa County area was a Frenchman, Joseph La Framboise, in 1808. When Joseph was killed the next year in a dispute with an Indian, his Indian wife, Madame La Framboise, took over his trading posts in the Grand River Valley. She was extraordinarily successful, and retired to Mackinac Island 12 years later, a wealthy woman. Astor then hired Rix Robinson to manage the 21 trading posts in the area, including the one in Grand Haven and another at the junction of Crockery Creek and the Grand River.

G Amust-have for Johnny Cash fans! G Includes the cult tribute records by African American country artist Stoney Edwards! Unavailable until now! G Plus Merle Haggard, Mac Wiseman, and more! INFORMATION 'Tribute' records are almost forgotten today, but for several decades there were hundreds of tribute records, sung by country stars about other country stars. This 'Tributes' compilation collects eighteen of the best, from Gordon Terry's delightfully wacky tri- bute to his boss Johnny Cash, The Ballad Of J.C., to Charlie Rich's tribute to Jim Reeves, Gentleman Jim.Also included are no less than eight of Stoney Edwards' touching tributes to his heroes, including The Night The Ernest Tubb Show Came To Town, Hag, Bob Wills, and many others. Superstar Merle Haggard is well represented with Leonard (a biographical song about his friend Leo- nard Sipes aka 'Tommy Collins') and Goodbye Lefty, anode to Hag's hero, Lefty Frizzell. All in all, this disc is a fascinating col- lection of an interesting and forgotten sub-genre of country music. TRACK LISTING GORDON TERRY: The Ballad Of J.C.

  • Haggard Remembered This One's Personal
April 11, 2016, Issue 494 Haggard Remembered The music world continues to mourn the death of Merle Haggard, who died at home in California on his 79th birthday Wednesday (4/6) after battling pneumonia. While the world lost a music icon, some in the industry lost a great friend. Here are some memorials. BBR Music Group President/CEO Benny Brown: I first met Merle Haggard in the ‘70s on one of my used car lots in California. A limo pulled in one day and a driver dressed like a chauffeur got out; the hat, glasses, the whole bit. When I went over and asked how I could help, he said, “I’m looking for an old truck and I don’t have much money.” I instantly recognized the voice because I’d listened to his singing so much. So I immediately said, “Yeah right. Tell me another one Merle.” He gave me big grin and said, “So you know who I am?” Well of course I did.
