ARTIST & INFO Hometown: San Francisco, CA In 1981, Bay Area California musicians Mike "Puffy" Bordin, Billy Gould, Mike Morris, and Wade Worthington formed a band called Faith No Man. A year later when Worthington was replaced by keyboardist Roddy Bottum, and Mike "The Man" Morris was ousted, the group began calling themselves Faith No More. After going through a series of singers which included Courtney Love, the band was joined by Chuck Mosely in 1983. The same year, Jim Martin was recruited to replace guitarist Mark Bowen. A four-song demo tape recorded in 1984 led to the band's first real album, "We Care A Lot," released on Mordam Records in 1985. Within a year the band signed up with Slash Records, and in 1987 their second album, "Introduce Yourself," was released. The subsequent tour brought Faith No More a good deal of press in Europe, but when the tour was over the rest of the band chose to fire Mosely due to his constant drinking, limited vocal capabilities, and squabbles with bandmates. Mike Patton, frontman of Eureka, California band Mr. Bungle, was a replacement suggested by Jim Martin, who had heard a demo tape that exhibited the long-gone death metal side of Mr. Bungle. Patton was hired in January of 1989. In two weeks he had written lyrics for the songs Faith No More was working on for their next album, and "The Real Thing" was released six months later.------The album was a critical success, and the band toured with Metallica shortly, playing in front of huge audiences. Even so, it wasn't until the song "Epic" was released as a single in January of 1990 that Faith No More's popularity took off in the U.S., thanks in large part to heavy rotation of the video (which even received some negative attention for a brief scene of a fish flopping around out of water) on MTV. Another successful video for "Falling To Pieces" followed. Members of mega-rockers Metallica and Guns N Roses named Faith No More among their favorite rock groups. The band received a Grammy nomination for Best Heavy Metal/Hard Rock performance. By the end of the year, "The Real Thing" had gone platinum in the U.S. In 1991, following the impressive success of "The Real Thing," Faith No More released in Britain a recording of a live show they played there, along with two previously unreleased tracks, entitled "Live At Brixton." A video of the same performance called "You Fat B**tards" was released elsewhere. The San Francisco band was now playing large venues worldwide as the main act, their unique sound & Patton's manic stage antics a draw for fans of all kinds of music. With Faith No More's fourth studio album, "Angel Dust," Patton had more time to compose as a full-fledged member of the band, and Gould, Bottum, & Bordin, thanks to the success of "The Real Thing," had more confidence in their ability to create the album they wanted to. At the same time, Martin began to become dissatisfied with the direction that their music was going, and often did not show up at scheduled rehearsals. Gould was sometimes forced to fill-in guitar parts. In the summer of 1992, after the release of the album, its first single, "Midlife Crisis," played regularly on MTV and radio. It was followed by videos for the b-side "Easy," which was very popular in Europe, and "A Small Victory." The latter, though an excellent video, was almost entirely overlooked by MTV, perhaps because neither song supported the hard rock image of the band prevalent since "The Real Thing," and MTV U.S.A. favors music that is easily categorized. Meanwhile, Faith No More was part of the biggest tour of the year, opening for rock giants Metallica and Guns N Roses. After that tour, on which they received lukewarm responses from fans of the main acts, they embarked on tours of the U.S. and Europe as headliners to smaller crowds. ARTIST & INFO Band Members: Joshua Redman (saxophone), Brad Mehldau (piano) Brad Mehldau first came to prominence as a member Joshua Redman's quartet in the 1990s before becoming a bandleader himself. The pair first reunited in 2010 when Redman was featured on Mehldau's album Highway Rider. In 2013, Mehldau was featured as a performer and producer on Redman's Walking Shadows.

"It's like one of those friendships where you don't see someone for a long stretch and then you fall right back where you left off," Mehldau told the Ottawa Citizen when he and Redman performed at the city's jazz festival in 2011. According to the Citizen's Peter Hum, these two friends are "among the most potent and influential jazz instrumentalists of their generation, and what Mehldau calls 'picking up' is in fact world-class improvising before rapt audiences."

Each artist has recorded extensively for Nonesuch, with a wide variety of collaborators. Brad Mehldau's label debut was the 2004 solo disc Live in Tokyo and includes six records with his trio: House on Hill, Day Is Done, Brad Mehldau Trio Live, Ode , Where Do You Start, and Blues and Ballads. His collaborative records on the label include Love Sublime, Highway Rider, Metheny Mehldau, Metheny Mehldau Quartet, Modern Music, and Mehliana: Taming the Dragon. Mehldau's additional solo albums on Nonesuch include Live in Marciac and last year's 8-LP/4-CD 10 Years Solo Live, which the New York Times says "contains some of the most impressive pianism he has captured on record."

Joshua Redman's first album on Nonesuch was the Grammy-nominated Momentum, released in 2005. His other releases on the label include Back East , Compass , and Trios Live , all of which explore the trio format; MoodSwing, originally released in 1994 with Redman's own band, including Mehldau, and re-released by Nonesuch in 2009; Walking Shadows, his first recording to include an orchestral ensemble, from 2013; and The Bad Plus Joshua Redman , his 2015 collaboration with the acclaimed trio, which the New York Times called "a knockout" and NPR called "a roaring and beautiful summit meeting." In 2004, he was a founder of the SFJAZZ Collective, an eight-piece, multi-generational ensemble of accomplished musicians. Since 2009, Redman has been performing with a new collaborative group called James Farm, whose members also include pianist Aaron Parks, bassist Matt Penman, and drummer Eric Harland. ALBUM FACTS Genre: Country Description: "El Rio" is Frankie Ballard's third studio album release. ARTIST & INFO Hometown: Battle Creek, MI Hailing from Battle Creek, MI, Frankie Ballard may be a newcomer to Nashville, but his edgy, country rock sounds like the work of someone deeply at home in Music City. The fleet-fingered Ballard got his start singing Elvis songs with his dad at the age of five and jokes that he shot his first music video in the family basement when he was seven. Obsessed with baseball and intent on becoming a professional athlete, Ballard didn't learn to play guitar until he was 18, but once he did, it was full-steam ahead as he locked himself in his room for hours a day to master the instrument. He began playing in blues bands, juggling weeknight gigs with his weekend college baseball commitments. Eventually, music won out, and in the summer of 2008, Ballard won Kenny Chesney's "Next Big Star" regional competition in Michigan. He opened for Chesney at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids and at Ford Field in Detroit, which led to a publishing deal with Sony ATV, and a recording contract with Warner Bros. Records.

Later this year, the band will unveil THE COMPLETE BBC SESSIONS, an updated version of the collection that's been newly remastered with supervision by Jimmy Page and expanded with eight unreleased BBC recordings, including three rescued from a previously "lost" session from 1969.

BBC Sessions was originally released in 1997 and has been certified double platinum by the RIAA. THE COMPLETE BBC SESSIONS builds on that collection with a third disc that boasts eight unreleased performances. In addition, the set includes extensive session-by-session liner notes written by Dave Lewis. For the first time ever, it provides accurate details and notes about all of the band's BBC sessions.

Musical highlights on this new collection include the debut of a long-lost radio session that has achieved near-mythic status among fans. Originally broadcast in April 1969, the session included three songs: "I Can't Quit You Baby," "You Shook Me," and the only recorded performance of "Sunshine Woman."

Also included are two unreleased versions of both "Communication Breakdown" and "What Is And What Should Never Be." Separated by two years, the performances vividly demonstrate the young band's rapid evolution over a short period of time.
