Return to top México: Land of Contrasts It’s no secret that México is a land of many contrasts. Such disparity is evident in México’s vast geography: snow-topped mountain ranges flank the arid Chihuahua desert and pristine beaches are only a short journey away from lush rain forests. Culturally, past meets present in colorful galleries, markets, and architecture. The traditional charms of fiestas, native music, and handicraft displays entertain you as you shop for the most up-to-date merchandise — quality ceramics, sterling silver jewelry, designer furniture, woven goods, and musical instruments. For a city tour, explore the modern municipalities of Guadalajara and México City. For a slower pace, visit the colonial mountain village of Guanajuato or discover the ethnic and geographical diversity of Oaxaca. If you like adventure, take a train to the Copper Canyon, then hike through a piñon forest to see the Cusárare waterfall. If you are a history or archeology enthusiast, explore the Mayan ruins in the Yucatan Peninsula and the Jesuit missions and cave dwellings in the northern region and Baja California. Then venture into the port of Veracruz to experience the imbedded blend of Spanish, Afro-Caribbean, and native Mexican legacies. Of course, you can always travel to one of the many resort areas dotting the Gulf, Pacific, and Caribbean coasts: Acapulco, Cancún, Cozumel, Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo, Los Cabos, Merida, and Puerto Vallarta, to name a few. In addition to breathtaking beaches, enjoy day trips, scuba diving, and night life. Whether you are seeking a world-class tourist experience, a taste of village life rich in history and culture, or an adventure into the backwoods, México is the place for you.
